Here's my experience with Guthrie Bowron and why I WOULD NEVER WANT TO DEAL WITH THEM AGAIN.
My rant below is purely for public awareness. It is not intended to disrespect or offend any particular individual at Guthrie Bowron.
1. We signed the agreement for $11,600-ish. One week before the installation date, they call me and say the agreement we signed had the wrong amount and the new amount is $12,800-ish. Their reason was human error and their computer system error. I tried explaining that we sat down with their staff member when we signed the agreement and we discussed all the items mentioned in the agreement line by line and we signed only after they confirmed everything was absolutely correct. Now asking us to pay $1200 more is not right and we would like to have everything as agreed and signed already.
They simply said NO. Not possible. Here's my simple but very personal observation. They never said sorry for their human/system error. Not once.
2. They agreed to provide us with temporary curtains if our ordered fabric was not ready before we moved into our new home. When the time came, they simply said NO. Not possible. They explained the technical reason why it was not possible. However, they could have explained this before we signed the agreement. But they didn't. They literally lied is how I felt.
The only reason we chose Guthrie Bowron over Curtain Studio was that they agreed to provide temporary curtains. When they said no, it was a big blow for us.
3. On the day of curtain installation, the man who came to install our curtains, jumped through our window without even checking with us while we were not at home. His reason was that he wanted to get the job done and he apologised. But still, this was trespassing and UNACCEPTABLE.
4. They got the measurement wrong for one of the French window curtains. When the man who came to install the curtains realized this error after fitting the tracks on the wall, he called the boss man at Guthrie Bowron to request to trim the curtains at the bottom, and guess what they said? Unscrew the tracks from the wall and fix them higher and do a paint job on the holes made on the wall as a cover-up/patchwork. No apologies, no courtesy call to check with me first if it was ok to do this or not. Seriously, who are these people?
5. After they installed the curtains, we noticed the curtain holders were missing and we request them to install them since we already paid for them. They sent us another quote for $500 without even checking the quote we signed and paid already which had all these details.
All our curtains are installed now except for one and we will continue to wait. They have done a great job with the installation and we love the final output. However, we are unable to shake it off and move on because it has left a really bad taste lingering in our memory of our overall experience with them.
Here's my take on the whole thing. Every one of us (including the members of Guthrie Bowron) works hard and we deal with hundreds of companies every single day. One thing we all expect as customers are "reasonable customer service". This reasonable customer service was NOT provided by Guthrie Bowron and I hate that they are completely oblivious to this fact.
One mistake could be overlooked. But, when you have five uncomfortable experiences with a company, it's not a coincidence. It's the company's culture.
If you have to deal with a company that doesn't respect its customers, can you imagine the mental and emotional stress that it creates every time you have to deal with them?
I truly hope they are not biased towards a certain ethnic group of customers in their approach and I don't want to take that cheap shot here. But if they did, I'd be damned. For now, we'll never know.
Exposing these things matter in today's world because I really don't want anyone else to go through what we went through knowingly or unknowingly.
People might forget the products they buy but they will never forget how you made them feel. For this, I'd stay away from Gutrie Bowron.
Brent, mark and the staff here are awesome people friendly here it's all about the people they go out of way to satisfy the costumer I remember painting a house the owner gave me the color but they couldn't find it anywhere here in nz because it was an Australian color they found it in the end it took 21 tints to make up this color they go all out to help awesome

The staff at the Hamilton TeRapa store are top rate and only too happy to pass on valuable advise when it's asked for. I would bypass other stores just to get the trade wisdom they have to offer. 10/10

What a great experience! We were served by Karen for our wallpaper and Mark for our paint. Both were so helpful and nothing too much trouble. We will be back for sure. Highly recommend!

Excellent service and advice. I don't know much about paint so took their advice and it worked out great.
Just been in to see the blokes, buy some paint and gear and grab a free coffee while we are at it. Great prices and paint quality that saves hours of work and repeat coats. Got some specialist advice that our painter needed these guys know their onions and are friendly and fun to boot. Thanks Brent for the advice about the epoxy!

Not impressed with the female at the counter today we took some wallpaper that we over calculated back to shop for a refund with receipt could only refund one of the wallpaper rolls.
However when we did purchase the rolls of wallpaper we were served by Karen who was lovely and extremely helpful but the other lady was not nice to deal with had a bit of attitude.
The team at the Hamilton store are amazing. Friendly helpful and knowledgeable, they treated us like gold. Thank you, your service and pricing for quality products has meant we have changed our supplier for our renovation company to Guthrie Bowron. Awesome work
