Mole & Chicken Restaurant Cafe & Bar

My nine year old ordered kids menu chicken, it was superb, I was happy to see she ate all the veggies which were cooked to perfection, most likely the best prepared kids meal I have encountered, perfect kids portion size, fit for any adult. I had fish of the day which was so good I was in awe. Snapper cooked to an absolute delicacy, perfect potato mash, magnificent sautéed greens, Devine coconut sauce and whoever thought of chilli pineapple salsa.
Absolutely world class, I am a fish connoisseur, this was the best I have ever had bar none.

We had a great meal here, the service was great even though they were super busy. Very impressed.

We were recommended to this place by Baycrest Thermal Lodge. We just wanted a light bite after a long day and it was less than 10 minutes to walk it. Lovely and warm (freezing night) - great welcome, lovely ambience, super friendly service and of course the food was excellent. Thank you and we'll certainly come here again when next we visit Taupo.

Epic, amazing, awesome. You have to go, just make sure you book well in advance. Small bar area so take that into consideration. Food and staff were amazing. We will definitely be back.

Great food, great beer, awesome place. Visiting from the UK for the day but would come back for everything on the menu if I could!

Used to be good. Now there’s really boring menu and uninspiring wine list. Thankfully there’s Grasshopper next door so we bailed on our reservation and went there. Shame about that but the Grasshopper food was great as usual.

You don't get hot chips like those at many places. Would highly recommend. Everyone was complimentary of their meals.

My wife and I, have been in New Zealand, for 4 weeks. We both love food, and as of today, have been served poor food at a high cost. Tonight; so different. We went to the Mole & Chicken, not sure what to expect, however, local people eat there, so thought it would be okay. Big mistake, It was very special indeed. I had a fantastic steak, my wife, a beautiful risotto. Every mouthful enjoyable. Staff were timeous and thoughtful, food exceptional
I can only suggest, that if you are here, please go there, you will not regret it.

Great local restaurant. Attentive Staff, varied Menu and fantastic food. Well presented and large portions. Highly recommended and we will definitely return when next in Taupo.

Enjoyed my Lamb shank tonight. Very fresh lamb and the vegetables complimented this dish nicely. I loved it.

Delicious food - this place deserves its high ratings. Don’t worry that it’s not in the centre of town, it’s busy and lively. Make sure to make a booking on busy nights… like every Friday. The service was very good. My risotto was nice - my wife’s eye fillet one of the nicest either of us have tasted for years. The accompanying vegetables also were delicious.

To begin with a group of 6 of us arrived and had pre booked. We were seated promptly. We then waited 10 minutes to have our drink orders taken and a further 10 for them to arrive. None of us drink alcohol so all got some form of fizzy (L&P, lemonade, lemon lime bitters) which all tasted really off, nothing like I've ever had before. The Garlic breads have to be the biggest joke I've ever come across, $8.50 for a pathetic tiny piece of bread is just beyond me. The mains were good but at $28-$32 for a burger I believe is really steap and the other mains are a good $5-$10 over priced. I got the pork belly and at $40 I was a little shocked at how little I got. All in all the place is really nice, same with the staff but I'll never return here, quite disappointing after reading the reviews and our group all agrees

The garlic bread starters were very cute and totally delicious. Our mains were DIVINE. Possibly the best steak I've had in Taupo. The duck fat potatoes could be served on the side so they dont go soggy. Service was great. Was hoping the cheesecake was homemade but was possibly store bought. Still a fabulous dining experience and would 100% go back. Big thumbs up:)

8 of us, including 3 children dined here tonight. The place was packed, partly due to an all blacks versus Ireland game, and a 50th birthday party. We were greeted and seated promptly, the service was absolutely fantastic - thank you Ange, great humour, the ambience cosy, warm, and comfortable, and the food just SCRUMPTIOUS! No complaints to make. 6 out of of 5 stars from us. One of the top eateries I've dined at.

A nice surprise at evening. Perfect two entrée on every level. Duck wonton is flavourful with perfect skin and filling. The sauce is making the whole dish become a masterpiece to start the night. The garlic bread is one of the best I ever had in New Zealand so far. With adequate seasoning and soft cheese in the middle prepare us for the main course. The main are both above average. The lamb shank is very well done with it's texture and vege mush. The steak is a bit of a disappointment. I ordered median rare but got blue. Over all very good experience will definitely come back again. Especially with very good service they are offering. 9 out of 10. Highly recommended. Thanks again for the awesome services.

Clearly a local favorite. Busy at both bar and restaurant, and food was well portioned, and great value. Burger was huge (as you can see) and market fish was super fresh with perfect vegetables.
Good wine selection with some craft beers (lakeman).
Large variety of menus choices were GF, great!

Great with young kids after long journey today. They were served first and meals came quickly even tho quite busy. Lovely friendly service. Will come again.
