Mount Tauhara Car Park reviews
39 Nice hike up the hill with a great view of the surroundings (Taupo and the lake, Bay of Plenty, Tongariro if there is no clouds).
It took us 1h10 minutes to get to the top at a slow pace (regular hikers) and 1h to get back to the carpark, so 2h10 total + a 45 minutes stop at the top to take in the view.
It was not muddy and not slippery.
When you reach the top, find the path on the left of the antenna to the real end of the trail. The path is well drawn on the ground but the vegetation is a bit outgrown.
The carpark has 15-20 spaces.
It’s a great spot to overlook Lake Taupo and the volcanoes in the distance. Some sections of the trail are slippery and narrow, making it difficult to climb.
Nice short hike with incredible views. Interesting start to a hike having to go over a few farm fences first to get into bush. No man made steps or supports, hiking boots are ideal but many were in runners and seemed fine. Few narrow channels to walk through.
Straight up - straight down. Great for the everyday tramper or for the seasoned runner. Give it a go
Simple carpark. About 20 car parks available. They are at the end of a gravel road right out front of other peoples properties. Careful not to go too far and end up on the farmers road. You should be looking out for signs and yellow markers.
What a challenge. Didn't know what we were in for but comfortably done just over an hr up and 40mins decent. Worth the exercise
Great walk and awesome views of the whole area. Nice start across and up the farm land before heading into the forest. Once you are at the top, head over to the rocks at the end of the ridge to get the best views of Taupo.
Mt Tauhara is a great use of 3-4 hours. At a brisk pace we conquered in 1.5hours, and had a great time in sheer exhaustion
Quite a steep climb in places and further than you think but very rewarding and beautiful views from the top. Be prepared with food and clothing should the weather change. Have appropriate food wear.
The starting point for a 1 to 1.5-hour climb to Mt. Tauhara with stunning 360-degree views from the top on a sunny day with good visibility. On the third climb I took the shortcut that goes right about 15 min from the stream and has steps (while the main track goes left). Think twice before you go there (very narrow steep ravine further up). It is considerably shorter than the main track and takes you right to the rocks.
Very easy to find turn onto Mountain road directly off of SH5 and follow it all the way to the end where car park is, 15-20 car spaces. The walk starts off on farm land look for tall posts that have yellow markers until you reach the top of the farm which has an awesome view, then carry on up past the tanks and the bush walk starts from there its a ruggered track and can be narrow and steep in places, once you get to the little stream you are not to far from the summit. Once you get to the summit the views are spectacular also be careful on your way from summit to the rock lookout as track is near cliffs edge in couple places.
Reasonable level of fitness required for the climb but well worth the effort. Great views. Hour and a half to the top at a relatively easy pace
Mount Tauhara is a spectacular mountain to climb! A steady and steep incline yet the views of the Sunrise and Lake Taupo is worth the climb!
It's nothing more than a road end with a few possibly insufficient number of spaces where you may be able to park your car if you get there before it's parked out. No marked parking spaces and virtually no shade.
Tauhara has become a regular part of my fitness building. It's by no means a manicured track which is something I like. The stream 5 minutes from the top gets a longing glance on the way up and splashed in on the way down. The view from the trig and other lookout points at the top is fantastic! If you're fit and in a hurry you'll do it from the carpark in 40 minutes, I'd imagine an hour would be a nice stroll without a stop.

The track was a little bit hard for me, but the views from the top are priceless. Will definitely go again.
Very beautiful views from the top. The path is well formed and steep and can be muddy. All you need is a good pair of shoes and possibly extra layers in case it’s a bit cold at the top. Takes about an hour to get to the top and 45 mins to come back if you jog/power walk. Would definitely recommend!
Fantastic uphill walk. No bathrooms around that I saw so please use restroom before going. I saw way too many wet wipes off in the Bush. If you go super early in the morning or late in the evening the sunrise/set is spectacular.
Windy as, while crossing farm land, then wonderfully peaceful once in the bush. Crazy amount of wood pigeons
