Ray's Rest Camping Reserve reviews
55Parking area for self contained vehicles to park up right on the beach sea views across to Thames and Coromandel.
It's a great spot, but only 2 nights per calendar mth is not enough, So get there the last 2 days of the month, and you can stay for double the night's:)
A wonderful spot for a peaceful stopover, with the water lapping nearby. We've enjoyed wonderful, relaxed stopovers here.
A great location at the waterside and nothing else - no toilets, no water or waste disposal. A lovely location for freedom camping, irrespective of the weather conditions, set back from the road, on the bird coastline. A short drive away from a good fish & chip shop, a tavern and a local dairy store.
Beautiful place, spacious, only waves and shells, the adjacent state highway cannot be heard
A lovely spot to stop.
Northerly wind is blowing warmly.
Birds feeding on the flats.
Lots of debris on the beach after recent bad weather.
We did not stay the night but it looked good for free camping. Lots of shorebirds and shells. Good gravel access.
Great freedom camping spot. Pub up the road so can get a nice meal and a cold beer. Good fishing. A popular spot
If you have a Campervan or caravan you should visit. Great place to overnight with friends.

Beautiful open spot to camp at with a panorama view of the sunset. There are no facilities onsite, so take your trash with you when you leave.
Ray's Rest is a great and very convenient overnight freedom camping spot for SC vehicles on the East Coast Road between Auckland to the Coromandel Peninsular. It's right by the beach on the Firth of Thames, in an open, sunny situation. Very popular with New Zealanders and likely to be packed out in summer weekends so get there early. There are no facilities whatsoever so self containment is a must. Nearby is the Shorebird Centre, hides for excellent shorebird watching, the famous Kaiaua fish and chip shop and the Miranda hot pools.
It is a real good place to go to. Nice views from there. We ended up leaving early because it was to noisy from cars and trucks going pass and also there lights fill beam and even had some driving pass, tooting there horns. And also had a vehicle parked back from us flicking there lights on and off.
A great place to stay right on the beach the parking area is made up of sand and shell so need to be aware of were you park
'Ray' Rest' one of many thousands of free access camping spots for self contained camper vehicles in Aotearoa. This camp location is in Miranda in the Firth of Thames, the beach and tidal changes are impressive here as the waters are shallow. The mud flats are excellent as is the bird and sea life. This spot is well worth a visit and stay over.
Peaceful perfection. A beautiful long inlet beach with white shell shore. Bordered by the cycle trail, Ray's Rest at Miranda is a wonderful location for motorhomers to stop over. Highly recommended.
Love this place so much come here at piece once a month. Thankyou to the family we love Ray* rest
Self contained vehicles only.
We arrived after dark, so we didn't get to see anything until morning. It was the perfect spot, nice and level, lots of room right next to the water with picnic tables as well.
The most beautiful, quiet spot for motorhome overnight. Superb fish & chips up the road at Kaiaua
