The Espy Cafe reviews
56 Honestly, it was the best food place on our holiday. I think we ended up there daily.
Very reasonably priced too
The environment is lovely, the food is delicious! The smoothies are amazing! And the girl that served me at the counter was gorgeous
I had a lovely breakfast here today. Lots of yummy options on the menu. The mushrooms were fabulous.
Sat outside in sun and enjoyed the view. Staff were superb.
Great food and coffee with quick friendly service. Nice location and good to sit out on the deck.
The quickest service I’ve had in an Australian or New Zealand cafe! And accurate too - an excellent large single shot skinny latte extra hot with a sleeve (amazing how many places get this order wrong) and delicious brownie. Perfect place to wait for your trip on the Ocean Leopard which boards from the ferry jetty across the road!
Whent to a 21st birthday. They did everything. Food was outstanding and service was great. You need to try there milkshakes, they are to die for. Easy walk from town along the water front.
Prompt service, coffees and meals arrive quickly, good coffee and tasty meals, will come again
You can't come to Whitianga without going to Espy Cafe. Superb hot drinks, food is excellent and the staff are so lovely. This place runs like clockwork. Love it
Food was average but what was unpleasant was the staff being rude to one of the workers there, can understand they were pretty busy but is no excuse to be rude to the girl.
I like KFC so I chose the chicken burger with chips and an iced mocha. To say the least, they did not disappoint. Easy 5 star cafe with quality, A-star burgers and iced mochas and would definitely come another time. FIYTB
Went there for afternoon tea.
Very disappointed to see most of the cakes/slice are not homemade (GF brownie, pink slice, ginger slice, snickers slice,)
I don't know my mother ordered mince but I did my best to finish it. Unfortunately, it was a gift that kept on giving. Tasted a bit off, but I'm not a quitter. Finished the rest the next day. Each time I ate it my stomach felt queasy for hours and my energy levels plummeted. Seems like there was just a whole bunch of mustard seed in it and the quality of meat actually seemed quite low, or maybe it was just old. The rest of the food was alright but didn't seem very inspired. I don't really care, I don't even know why I'm writing this review. Probably just out of boredom or a weird need to connect with people. If you're reading this just know you are loved. Merry Christmas to all! And maybe make a new batch of mince for the new year.
Good spot across from a playground for breakfast. Although I didn't indulge, the treats in the cabinet looked amazing
Amazing food and a wicked coffee with good service and came out within 5 minutes very impressed!
Amazing place. If kufe is the absolute worst eatery in Whitianga then this is the very best. A+
Amazing food in the heart of Whitianga with a warm welcome and great service. At the height of lunch the food was very fast and tasted delicious.
An amazing cafe. Delicious food and coffee, and wonderful quick service despite being busy on a Sunday morning. They scanned our vax passes and all the staff were wearing masks which made us feel very safe as visitors to the town. Would 100% recommend and would come and visit again.
I would love to leave a review for the chirpy staff member Jed. I have got to know Jed through my frequent coffee stops at Espy cafe. He is the Ray of sunshine that we all need in our lives. He is so lovely, kind and always ensures that his customers are having the best coffee experience. Good mahi Jed.
Excellent coffee and incredible service! It's easy to see why this place is so popular, they have really lovely staff, and brilliant systems - our coffee usually arrives almost before we have sat down. We love the breakfast sausages, and our food is always perfectly cooked. Super clean too and a great view to top it off.
After visiting Espy almost every day of our 10 days in Whitianga over December / January, we had a really poor experience on January 3rd. We walked in as a group of 8 (4 adults, 4 kids) and moved a table of 2 and a table of 6 (which were both next to each other) closer together to accommodate our group on a single table. A woman behind the coffee machine starting yelling at us and waving her hands and generally ranting and raving, and came flying across the room screaming "You can't move tables, all our staff know where all the tables are" (which doesn't even make sense given table numbers are handed out at the counter as orders are placed; the tables aren't permanently numbered). No issue at all if tables can't be moved, but the reaction in this case was completely over the top, excessive and entirely unnecessary. We walked out of the cafe and took our $200 next door to Harbour House Cafe and had a fantastic breakfast there instead. As a regular visitor with family in Whitianga, I visit throughout the year - not just in the peak summer months. I won't be visiting Espy Cafe again after the experience earlier this month.
