Tomo Bar & Eatery

The stone barbecue is very delicious. The meat is sizzling, and the saliva will flow down. The lamb is very fragrant and tender. The mussel sharing pot is fresh and has no fishy smell. The white sauce is very thick and fragrant. It is great to drink alone or dipped in bread. The service staff are friendly.

The best lamb I've ever had. Super with the hot stone and the meat quality was super mega monkey awesome!
Also the beginning, when the hot stone was served with meat, through the smoke the fire alarm went off, was a nice entertainment.
The service is very nice, friendly and attentive.
I can only recommend this location, especially the thing with the bucket. Keep it up!

Very rude lady out front! Walked out without even ordering sh! T customer service! Bad greeting, spoke with a attitude as soon as we walked in the door.

We had the cut and it was superb. Expertly seasoned and a fabulous experience cooking on a hot plate.

The barman was just the right amount of cheeky to make the experience memorable. Highly recommend this restaurant, excellent affordability.

Would give 10 stars if I could.

Food and service quite good. BUT.they really have a camera at the mensroom. INSIDE (!) the Mensroom. So if you go to pee, the camera is filming you. I mean is this legal? Can't believe this

The big guy behind the bar is obviously out of his depth. I’ve never been treated so rudely at such an establishment! Left without ordering

Tried to order takeaway, rude guy on the phone said something like “no chance, very full restaurant. ” but it was mumbled so I am guessing that is what he said. Then he hung up. Didn’t even give me the chance to see how long the wait for a table would be - pretty bad service!

Just a fantastic place. Great burgers, great beer, great pizza, cool guy running the place. We heard there was a breakinn the night before but the place still opened and delivered awesomeness.

The worst customer service I have ever seen! (This part was written after original review) Hi, actually you had no idea who the family was, untill you had already rufused us! We were told to head down early, so we did, but on arrival told we couldn't stay, once asked why, then you gave 2 options. Option 1 outside - in which it was raining but yes is undercover, we asked about wind protection, to which your manager replied "I can't control the wind". Or the second amazing option - a high table and stools for our grandmother in her 70's. Very considerate.
Im sorry our timing didn't suit your needs, this isn't really the issue though, it was the attitude of your staff.

VERY RUDE

Called to make a reservation was told that they don't take bookings however the lady on the phone said that if we come before 5.00pm - 5.30pm they would be able to accomodate however when we arrived at 5 00pm we were told they wouldn't take bookings for more than 8 people (I had told the lady over the phone there were 13 of us, the place was also empty) we were told that half of us could sit inside and the other half outside. Keeping in mind we had a few older people that cant sit on the high stools and babies that couldnt sit outside, when i had told who I assumed was the manager how it was windy and we had babies he replied " I cant control the wind"

We went to Huhu Cafe who were more than willing to help going as far as to opening up a separate area to assist us. However we didn't want to inconvenience them the ladies we dealt with at Huhu Cafe were absolutely amazing and could provide the Tomo with tips on providing good customer service.

Great location. Love the staff. Very helpful. The beef brisket Burger looked good. I had the lamb shank. It was good but not great. It was dry. (overcooked) usually helped by gravy.but.it was hard to access the gravy in the bottom of the deep dish.potato absorbed the gravy.

Awesome! First time diners. The food was amazing. I had a hot plate which came with 4 beautifully prepared selections of meat, they deliver to your table on a sizzling hot stone, it's a bit of a buzz being part of cooking your own meal, the prices are good too. Great service even though there was only person working front of house on a tuesday night with a few people to look after. This will probably be our go to place from now on

Don't go there, specially if you are a tourist. I've been living in NZ for 5 years now and the service there was one of the worst I have ever seen. The old guy at the counter refused a tasting of a local beer, in a very rude way, left me spechless. I am a brewer, work in the industry and I dont remenber ever being refused a tasting. The food was decent, not too bad but far from good. It took us 1 our to get our meal, which would be understandable since the place was a bit crowded. However, we saw three or four people come in and get their food first, when we 100% ordered first. Overall bad experience after a nice day at the caves. Stay away from this place and go to HUHU cafe instead.

Was a great place, beer, wine, burger and pizza all good. 2 guys at front of house were great as it easy a busy Sunday night

Best chicken burger I’ve had in my entire life. Great food, friendly staff, and fantastic value. Couldn’t ask for anything more.

The right place to have a nice beer and nice food in a cozy authentic place.
You can choose a beer out of a big range of options. We tried the pork ribs and the seafood chowder. Both were extremely delicous! Unluckily, we couldn't finish all.

Sorry, we went a second time. This time we ordered beef burger and the kumara salad. The salad is awesome!

My friend's wife gently asked the bartender "do you mind if I taste this beer? ", the bartender answered "I do mind". At first I thought he was just joking. The problem was not the fact he said no to her (even though it is the 1st time I see a bartender denying a beer sample), but how rude was the way he spoke to her. My friend had already ordered his beer so we decided to stay. A few minutes later, I decided to order food. The same bartender said that it would probably take 1h, I said "no problem", he repeated himself, almost like he didn't want us to order food. I decided to order anyway because we were really hungry. As time was passing by, I noticed that some tables around us started to be occupied by new customers and these new customers were receiving their food before us. I'm not complaining about waiting 1h to get the food, but having other customers who arrived later get the food before us wasn't fair. At least the food was okay.

Really yummy food and staff there was really friendly and nice. A chilled place to hang with your friends and family!
