Countdown Wainuiomata reviews
55Had a minor inconvenience with some moulded tortilla wraps, but I took it back, I got a new one with not charge and a full refund no questions asked
Ive been finding more and more disappointment with Countdown lately. Lowerhutt Countdown the one up near pak n save ive experienced extreme attitude with staff there arogant to the point that they think their company will never be put under stress from a competitor. My home town Countdown of Wainuiomata experiences have been mixed. Sometimes good sometimes pretty bad. Most of the staff there are good but often i find myself wondering why somethings being priced so high. Like what happened with this years crop of watermelon, what was it something around $15 per kg. Pak n Save priced well under $10 per kg. I shant be shopping at Countdown again, Pak n Save or New World only from now on. New World does charge higher prices on some items due to being smaller but ive had consistently pleasant experiences at Lowerhutt New World. Im done with Countdown. The last time Countdown was amazing in Wainuiomata was when it was still Woolworths a brand that still exists in Australia.
Will revise review once the mall renovations are done.
Update 16th August 2022
I cant comment on the interior as i refuse to step foot in there once because i can no longer feed money into a corporation that cares little about the public it serves. As for the exterior all looks nice etc would be great if Woolworths finally decides to finish developing retail buildings for other businesses to take root which was part of the original building plan unveiled in the mall hint hint. People don't forget. Also whens the new health clinic getting built? What happened to the old Warehouse building? Surely its not being used as a Warehouse by Countdown? One can only wonder. Ask Briscoes a useful business if they'd like to rent it.
Anyway it looks good im sure its functional just a place i pass through on my way to other areas.
Update 12th May 2023
I have been going there occasionally despite saying i wouldn't for the occasional product and more often potting mix. The service is ok the staffs attitude that used to exist has mostly gone from my limited experiences there. The problem is its far from an affordable place to shop. Since when did a bag of corn chips cost $5? Its cheaper to buy them at a local dairy. Its amazing that over the space of about 20 years Countdown have gone from cheaper prices than Pak n Save to more costly than New World. How do they plan on remaining in business for another 20 with competitors on the horizon, Costco and hopefully Coles.
A pleasure to shop in this store. Fresh produce and well stocked. Friendly staff, great parking facilities.
Convenient with good parking.
Never enough tills open and prices not that competitive
Still waiting for that parking lot to be made and for more disabled parking.
Edit: The parking lot has officially been finished but there are still limited disabled parking spots.
Always find the prices here very high and service not so great. Attempted to use a voucher but checkout operator did not know how to put it through nor did they seek help from colleagues, just told me I could not use it so instead I had to use it at Petone Countdown. So frustrating, will stick to going elsewhere.
Great place to shop in Wainuiomata being the only supermarket in the valley, heaps of parking available now
Love the new shop, the new parking set up is good. Stock selection runs really minimal and prices are up not quite the bargains as they use to be. Actually shopping elsewhere for cleaning products as they are WAY over priced. But glad to have a nice local grocery store.
A new countdown in Wainuiomata. Very lovely layout.
Meat selection is not great. Could have been bigger. Meat seems to run out quickly. Overall very nice with chemist.
Variety and quality of goods less than in other Countdowns.e. G lower hutt countdown has better quality and variety of fruit. Somewhat dissapointed given that it is a newly built store.
Very good.shelves look good. Everything i needed was on shelves. I shopped 29th afternoon and early morning Sunday 30th.
Car park is almost completed, lots of parks available. Clean and tidy store well stocked. The staff are helpful and friendly
Way better than the old store. Car park looks a bit barren ATM. Be nice once the trees grow. Makes wainui feel more upmarket
Had to wait a long time to be served at Delicatessen the worker asked us to wait while she finished wrapping trays. The tongs in the bakery were unclean, there was 2 apple Danish in a packet with the best before date on the day I was there
Awesome! Staff are helpful and friendly, always. Great people work there.
A well thought out placement for everything and most of the times if you're carrying your One Card.you'll save some money.
Plenty of car parks including handicap parking, parents with prams, online shoppers.
I really like the easy access for those in wheel chairs.
Finally, new parking is complete. Renewed supermarket. Still needs fine tuning & well stocked shelves. Pickup & delivery services available.
The good: it has new clean layout that needs to get used to
. Looks great and highlights the raise of Wainuiomata status.
The bad: Update!
Maybe it's not ready but who designed the disabled car park spots? Who saw the design and thought: "Yeah put the disabled spots for parking uncovered so they get wet in the rain".
The parking for picking up online orders is covered! The cars parked there when I was visiting they we're not for picking up any online orders! The online orders should have queue forming NOT permanent parking spots!
Parking spots been now updated slightly wider and clearly marked.
The smooth concrete outside been roughed up bit so won't be slippery but the yellow tiles for the eyesight impaired people are failing and getting loose.
While we brought the subject of inside. Who thought the bakery is good idea to be crammed like an afterthought beside the deli? Missed opportunity to be true patisserie in addition to bakery. The alcohol section is the biggest section though.
We'll see the final form of the shopping center and hope this not the final form of the Countdown Wainuiomata.
Oh! Almost forgot. You know the car entrance from the Strand? Yeah. That one it kinda guides you behind the old warehouse, has sharp blind turn with no footpath and barely enough room for two a way street. Be careful on a rainy day! Hidden potholes were hastily repaired.
Looks nice. New build. To pay for the new build they have jacked up the prices - was previously already a lot dearer than Lower Hutt/Petone.
Countup it should be called. The number of hot chicks going in there since thay done the fresh build is going up not down
Despite a "run" on this store after lockdown was announced, the staff were brilliant and patient - the ones who had already been working all day long, as well as the ones who had been called in to help with the rush! And, without knowing that lockdown would so suddenly be announced, the store was well-stocked with the basic and not-so-basic supplies! We love our new Countdown Wainuiomata!
