Courtenay Medical reviews
35 I tried to advocate for myself to get treatment after years of being gaslit and the doctor kicked me out of the office and said she wouldn't treat me ever and removed me from her books.
Doctors that don't listen to patients who have been living in our bodies for decades and know what's wrong and still get gaslit, ignored and even kicked out should be held as a red flag.
Doctors in this country are neglectful and abusive.
I've been going to this practice for a number of years and have never had a bad experience. I have changed GPs multiple times as different doctors left the practice to move cities or countries, but every doctor I have seen has been excellent. Reception staff are all polite and friendly, and good at helping you figure out who you need to see and how soon that can happen. They also offer bookings and prescription renewals through Manage My Health, which I find very convenient.
The Courtenay Medical team are great, all very personable and helpful and always provide prompt service.
Dr Rebecca Rowe, such an excellent doctor, always know what is necessary for her patients and always decide what is the best. Superb!
I have found the doctors and staff to be very competent, very helpful, and very friendly during the three years I have been a patient here. They have also been very accommodating and quick to answer emails and phone messages. They recently made an appointment for me on practically no notice to deal with an issue prior to an imminent airline departure. This proved to be exceptionally helpful; my thanks to doctor and staff.
Very disappointed with this medical centre. My assigned doctor appears to be disorganized- not following up on test results or ordering tests without continued prompting by me. Reception staff fob it off as confusion. How not ordering a blood test I was told I had to have is confusion, I will never understand
Was there for just under an hour in the waiting room for my appointment and still didn't get to see a doctor as I ended up having to leave. Seems odd that as customers we're charged for being late to an appointment but a doctor can make you wait an hour and all that's said is "oh sorry it shouldn't be too much longer"
If you looked at some of the reviews I have posted you will know about a bad experience I had with GPs in Wellington. I am very happy to say that this practice is the exact opposite.
I first contacted them when a family member came home from work at 6.30am with COVID symptoms. In an absolute panic I rang the nearest GP to our home. The person who answered explained that they were overloaded and were reserving spots for enrolled patients (similar to the last experience I had with a GP in Wellington).
However the difference with this practice is that they provided the number for the MoH testing station in Taranaki Street, explained the process that I would go through, and gave advice on what to say at the testing station.
Absolutely fantastic!
This is what service is all about in my opinion, if you can't provide it yourself, provide advice on what your customers alternatives are. Courtney Medical front office staff are true customer service representatives. I can't rate them highly enough for being able to help me, without helping me. FANTASTIC! Needless to say we are now enrolled here.
Honestly, the only positive about Courtenay Place Medical is the location. Customer service is pretty poor and my daughter changed doctors 3 times in a 2 year period. The consultations are quick and always feel they’re in a rush. We hardly ever had our consultation resolved the 1st instance and needed to come back and practicality argue to get referral letters for specialists. Wouldn't recommend this place.
I have been a patient here since 2016 and in that time have had four different doctors. The most recent doctor has been rude, flippant and made it increasingly difficult for me to access the care I need. When asking for a prior prescription yesterday I was met with an eye roll and a groan.
There have also been three different occasions where I have tried to access previous services provided by other doctors over the phone only to be told that I need to come in. I am appalled and frustrated by how I have been treated here and will not be returning.
I would give zero if I can for their terrible customer services. The receptionists there are very rude and never pick up phone calls. When you ring to cancel the appointment, the phone calls are not answered and they fine you for their own laziness.
I started using this place about a month ago and have nothing but praise for the service provided.
Went to a counselling session with Suzanna Langendam and I had to pay $135 for an initial meeting. Fair enough if she would actually help or is friendly and positive. When I asked her about herself, she only complained to me about her life. I then told her that she could change this and that and she was so annoyed that it'll never be the same. I want someone to help me with my issues and not the other way around. Such a bad energy and awkward as well, the conversation was not flowing as hard as I tried. Would rather get paid than go there again!
Been a patient here since 1996- no more
The customer service is absolutely appalling. Extremely rude and defensive and unable to apologize when they've made mistakes (which is very common!)
Receptionist refused to hear my concerns, when I explained I was very close to changing practices. Insisted on gaslighting me, suggesting every shortcoming was actually my fault
-No-one answers the phone - ever. Lets it goto voicemail unless you call 5+ times. It's taken me 20 minutes to get through before.
-More expensive than any other doctor in town
-they absorb the ACC subsidy, so an ACC-covered doctor's visit still costs the same as a regular consult, around $60 (compared to $25 anywhere else)
-Repeatedly mess up prescriptions
-a massive $25 fee for repeats on those same messed up prescriptions.
I was there in Oct 2020 and the receptionist with the short hair was lovely. Unfortunately the doctors don't seem to stay long here so it's impossible to build a relationship with your GP - there has been good and not so great docs over the years. The nurse (Mikayla - spelling?) was absolutely AMAZING and I will go back just for her. I took a star off because they are quite pricey but other than that, pretty cool and handy if you work or live in the city.
Disappointed at the receptionist. The lady is very impatient. She doesn't even want to listen to what I said. I hope they can do better. Normally, I can't talk to the doctor directly, and the receptionist is responsible of answering any basic questions and delivering messages to my GP. But she doesn't solve problems properly.

Front desk was unbelievable unfriendly on the phone. Really bad customer service. I felt quite intimidated by that lady, but thought she might just had a bad day. But reading the other reviews I see she always has bad days. Can’t believe all these negative experiences customers have don’t have any consequences for her. I couldn’t do that in my job.
