El Matador reviews
51Menu is argentinian but the cook is obviously not! Dishes were not served in the traditional argentinian way. Mollejas with hot sauce? Dulce de leche and cream on my flan were nearly non existent. I understand the cuts of meat are expensive but it was still very overpriced considering how the place is dirty and falling apart. Staff was friendly but I would not go back.
Honestly fabulous and fantastic.
Yes expensive but seriously one of the best places I have eaten. It didn't take bookings but if timed it right it didn't matter.
Atmosphere fantastic, Staff on the day was fantastic and food brilliant.
Really enjoyed the night.
A great eating experience here last night.food was excellent along with the sangria and coffee!
The staff are very international, super friendly and happy with excellent service skills.
Keep up the great work, TEAM.
Thank you.
OMG, the steak meals are the best and excellent professional staff - I go here regularly - never had a bad meal)
The half hour of waiting in the cold wind was well worth it. Big portion, delicious food and good environment. Recommend ~
Bloody delicious. Not cheap and they operate a waitlist table approach so go there early then go somewhere else for a drink while you wait for your table.
Everyone must try this restaurant when you come to Wellington.
This is the first time I eat roasted bone marrow, and that’s amazing, tastes so good!
While we are definitely not fans of the booking system, the food made the 1.5hour wait worth it! The food was incredible. All 4 of us had steaks, and we could not have been happier with our meals. Great service too. We didn't spot the blankets in the back room until leaving, so our only request would be that diners are made aware of these upon arrival to the back room. We will be back!
Had a great meal, very generous portions and authentic good. Wonderful service, will definitely be back.
Very high standard of food. Meat is the star and well presented and prepared. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely go again.
We had the best steak ever.
Loved the Mexican decor.
The staff were great.
Can't wait to go back again
My favourite restaurant in Wellington. The most delicious beef cheek I've ever tasted, an incredible selection of wine from all over the world, and super friendly staff. The pork belly is also to die for. Get ready to fill up and not be able to eat another meal for four days though.
Service was good and food was tasty, however unfortunately both myself and my friend were sick afterwards and the next day. The restaurant did not seem to care at all when advised of this.
Great food and service, loved the whole vibe of the place. Really nice people too. Check it out!
Food was great but the manager was so rude. We went there early to get an outdoor seat. The manager gave us a small table right next to the entrance. He basicly told us to take that table or get out! We were shocked!
Favourite Restaurant in Wellington by far! Loveliest staff all the time! Drooling by just thinking about the food!
The location is amazing, dated and rustic with these broken tiles and rough finish sounded by these pictures of matadors and Che Guevara. Visually stunning and spotless. Unortunately it ends there, the service was terrible. The person that served us clearly didn't want to be there, forgetting or drink order, when it good came it was just dumped on the table without a word, and that was the last time we saw her. No check on food or drinks from anyone. This may have skewed how we enjoyed our meal as it was average at best, a great cut of prime meat that was quite bland.
Color us disappointed, we had heard great things about this place, and it was out last stop in the trawl of some Wellies amazing eateries and pubs. Sad that so much effort goes into a location with nothing else to support it
10/10 location
0/10 service
4/10 food
Staff were friendly, professional and helpful. The dishes were sublime. We had a meat platter along with an apple and fennel rocket salad, roast carrots, and a mesculin salad with tomatoes and mozzarella, along with a bowl of olives. The meat platter had black pudding, lamb, beef, sweetbreads, chicken, and sausages topped with a very good chimi churri sauce. The meat platter was sufficient for 5 of us. The meat was cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. We will definitely be back!
Note the photo was an afterthought. We were so busy enjoying all of the food that we forgot to take a before photo. This is a dining experience definitely worth trying.
I honestly love this resteraunt it is by far my favourite resteraunt in Wellington to date! Both the food and the atmosphere are amazing and I will keep coming here whenever I have the opportunity
