April2022. What a find. One of those date night successes.
The smells of spices when you walk in is yum. Quiet when we arrived, and busy when we left. 2 tables had regulars at them, 2 families with young children, 1 with our older generation. They all looked comfortable and happy. So the meals. Starters were shared, as well as the mains. Well portioned, hot, flavoursome. We chose 'medium' heat, has a little kick for the buds. Front of house perhaps Father&Son, worked so well together, and in training a young adult whom the Son did a wonderful job of shadowing.

Nice $12 lunch combo. Naan was nice and soft, not soggy. Chicken tikka masala had nice flavor, not overpowering. Not bad but not spectacular. I would come back here for meals.

They have upped their game a lot recently this would be a 5 but I am waiting to see if the recent improvement in taste continues.

Shocking customer Service!
My partner and I went here for a valentines evening meal and were stunned at the disgusting behaviour of the owner.   A customer obviously had some negative feedback for his meal and was paying at the counter when an argument between him and the owner began. The owner was shouting at the customer, and ended up going back to the customers table, picked up a plate and began publicly belittling the customer by shouting about his complaint whilst holding up the plate and addressing the whole restaurant, it was absolutely unbelievable!
It was the most terrible and embarrassing thing I have ever witnessed from a business owner anywhere in hospitality. This person doesn't deserve to have a business, nor does he deserve the custom of decent people.

I eventually stood up and told him he was embarrassing everyone in the room and to take his issue outside away from everyone. I was actually thanked by two separate people for standing up to him and one called him a bully.
Apart from that the meal was average at best and the starters for both myself and partner were cold.
I will never return to that business again and will never recommend it to anyone.

Recently purchased two of Samrat Indian Resturant key takeaway main meals: # 1. Vegetarian Korma and #2.a Beef Vindaloo. Side dishes were a Garlic Roti, two Garlic Naan and a bowl of Onion Bhaji. The main meal flavours were not quite right, plus the two Garlic Naan's being bland and doughy. The Roti was excellent as was the Onion Bhaji. Hopefully today's meal isn't reflective of Samrats normal Indian cuisine.

Watered down and flavourless curry and the mango lassi tasted off. Sadly the worst curry I've ever had.

I have just had the most amazing meal with my family here, best curries we have ever eaten in NZ…perfect friendly service, cannot praise this place enough, will be back soon.

It has been good experience. Service was quick and efficient. We order tadka dal and naan. Naan was very soft and dal was good too.

Decent indian food with quality service which includes complimentary poppadoms and a reusable bag with take away orders.

Owner is super nice. Remembered after 3 years and the food is beautiful. Definitely recommend onion bjaji as a starter.

We have been going to Samrat for 8 years and have always been happy with their food and service. Friendly staff, delicious and reasonably priced curries!

Ordered a meal on the phone. I Actually rang twice, a second time to confirm a detailed. When I arrived they said the guy couldn't understand me so they didn't bother making it.
It would have been polite to just say that we can't make it on the phone.
I was on a time schedule, that's why I rang ahead. Service not so sharp, not sure about the food as I walked out, so I could get to my appointment in time.

Great flavour, good portion sizes for takeaway. Ready at time requested and nice and hot, in both senses. Genuine Indian curries.

A lovely little Indian restaurant, with a wide choice of options. Well-presented, delicious food, served with sauces, popadoms and naan bread.

Got the banquet between two people and loved it! Really delicious food and felt well looked after by their friendly service. Highly recommend

Good service and of course good food. Pleasant courteous staff as always and consistently good food.

Disgusting attitude to level 2 tonight. Zero distancing in the restraunt, guests were almost touching each other on separate tables. When challenged they couldn't care less. Attitude from the owners just reflects why the rest of us have to suffer when we're forced to the next level because of spread.
Other businesses around were clearly taking action.

Will not ever go back there, or provide support. Business like this don't deserve to be trading when they're more interested in cash than keeping NZ healthy. Shame on you guys!

Need to work on good service. Man on front looks lack of customer service.

We read so many great reviews about this place and decided to give it a try. We bought a couple of different curries and they were all bland and pretty much tasted the same. Worst curry we've had in years. Wont be going back.
