Shanghai Restaurant reviews
22 I live in Auckland but frequently travel to Wellington for work.
This food is being amazing. I can’t express enough how delicious bang on. We have nothing like this in Auckland. Their Kung Pao Chicken or Schezuan perfection. I get out delivered to my hotel and it’s always hot because they vacuum seal it.
Well done. Beautiful food.
Large (too large) selection of meals as one would expect. Meal was good with crispy vegetables but there was a little bit too much sauce. I would prefer more heat in sechuan sauce.
The place could do with a coat of paint as it's looking quite run down. Usually the food here is awesome but tonight it was a bit lack lustre, maybe just an off night
This restaurant is a gem! The food is delicious, portions are very generous and price is reasonable. The waitress was very kind and attentive. The atmosphere is very warm and relaxing.
I will definitely be back!
The food here is delicious. While the prices may be on the higher side, the portions are quite generous, and the use of fresh ingredients to some extent justifies the cost. One thing to keep in mind is that if you are a vegetarian, it's important to inform the staff as some of the vegetable dishes may contain meat. This is a unique aspect of Chinese-style hospitality that may not be common in other restaurants, so it's worth remembering.
I love coming here for lunch as well as with the family for dinner. Quality of food is good and portions generous. Never understand why it is uncrowded because it's worth coming here for the food, service and the relaxed atmosphere.
Not sure if it's the boss, looks like he had a bad day, no smile on his face while I paid for a good amount of money for the food.
The food and service was impeccable love going to Shanghai restaurant as it's always amazing food and incredible service great Chinese food
Took over an hour for our food. Got my main dish 45 minutes before my friends got his entree. Long time.
Food was delicious, great portion sizes and friendly staff. More than happy to come back again!
Fantastic food of lots of different varieties. They have the more western Chinese like sweet and sour pork as well as more authentic stuff as well. All the food is the best version of that dish I'd ever tasted.
The service was attentive quick and friendly. Food also came out quickly and you really get the feeling they care about your experience.
Love this place.
Great place. Great service. Food are very tasty and come in big portions. Very reasonable price
Authentic Chinese food, fresh material, decent portion. Always passed by but surprise me when I drop by for lunch for the first time. Come for lunch special if you looking for budget option.
很多江淮菜的菜色,而不是常见的牛羊肉,在惠灵顿算是难得的存在
Uncovering A Top Dog: In a nutshell SR offers an attractive, comfortable and moderately large premise, excellent service, and very good food, cooked by professional Cantonese and Sichuan chefs. We've passed by SR many times but never thought to stop by until recently (due in part perhaps of SR not having a conspicuous exterior) and were therefore pleasantly surprised.
Service was fast, courteous and generous (with a complimentary pot of green tea, so quintessential of overseas Chinese restaurants but not so in NZ, which was therefore all the more delightful). Noodle dishes were cooked to perfection while the claypot dishes were served with fine ingredients and authentic flavours. (Some Sichuan dishes can be quite greasy, so keep to the "mainstream" ones).
SR would attract those who appreciate traditional Chinese cuisines, such as the lunch crowd that was present at the time. (They deserve more than the 3.8 rating given to date). It is most satisfying when out dining to have everything come together to make your culinary exploration an awesome experience, at least every once in a while. To conclude, SR is no underdog. On the contrary, it's ahead of the pack.
One of the oldest Chinese restaurants in Wellington. Always good and friendly service, delicious chinese cuisine at a very good price.
Ordered this evening via Uber Eats, the highlight for me was the stuffed chicken wings, it was crunchy, tasty and I wanted more. Tofu was perfect, mildly spicy, crunchy tofu. Chicken fried rice was delish, reminded me of my favourite Chinese place in Auckland. A little bit on a higher side, price wise, however, value for money, so take your pick. Am a happy beaver, tummy full and satisfied. Will definitely order again.
Great place to order a wide range of dishes and share amongst a group. Good portions and not too pricey. Also BYO.
Mixed thoughts on this restaurant. Attentive servers. Not sure if the food is China area specific but there seemed a lot of oil used. Food was tasty but was a once off visit for me.
Not Shanghai traditional, over priced, taste of food was less then average, over $20 for a dish of noodle but small portion, service was OK, wouldn't go back again nor recommend to anyone, worst meal of the trip.
Customer Service not great.
Food is oily - takes too long to cook.
Positives - venue is really clean and quiet.
