Smith the Grocer Cafe reviews
53Went here for breakfast and lunch on Tuesday and Today during my Wellington trip. Loved the chai latte, Smith's Vege Breakfast and Housemade Fish. Will definitely be back when I am in Wellington next time!
Great cafe in the Old Bank Arcade, well managed and good food and coffee, interesting venue with seating on 2 levels and a glass roof 3 stories up in what I think would have been an open area when it was the bank and complete with a glass walled elevator covering 4 levels of the old building.
Always have a really good experience there. Staff are wonderfully friendly a polite 10/10 would recommend
Here for afternoon tea. Plenty of sweet treats. Raw silky snickers bar, was to die for. This was on another level for taste and texture. I should have had another. Instead lemon meringue pie, was good, just not enough lemon. Order at counter then its bought to you. Cabinet food looked very tempting.
Good coffee and lovely cheese scones. Love that this café os in one of the oldest building in Wellington. Can't wait to have the borders open again to see tourists here. Used be busier than it is now
Very small food portions for the price. Staff serving were lovely and professional despite what seemed to be quite uncomfortable interactions with the elderly café owners (I witnessed an interaction which could be called condescending at best, misogynistic at worst). I expect more for a Wellington café.
Wellingtonians are spoilt rotten with the various cafes about the place.
I was in town for the first of my jabs, and the innoculating nurse provided the recommendation. Perhaps Smith the Grocer is her local, or at least one of them.
I can still recall the richness in flavour of the ginger slice, and i had a flat white to wash everything down. Moi supplied my neighbour with a slice of something, but i can't remember exactly what is was. She is, however, in a good mood, so the morsel was obviously enjoyable. Well done!
Lovely environment but staff had very vague knowledge of what drinks were available for the person I was with who is Vegan. There was also no hot drinks menu so you had to rely on the staff recommendation- would only recommend this venue for it's location. My large flat white was extremely small and expensive
Beautiful food We got there at 11.30am and it was pretty busy By noon it was crowed Worth it though
Always a good experience coming here - quick on the coffee making, good tea selection and a range of yum cakes etc to choose from.
Probably the most expensive cafe In wellington, If you're looking for good food and money is burning a hole in your pocket then go to Smith the Grocer where you can pay $6 for a Brownie, the have very nice food but it's no nicer than you could make at home for cents if you new what you're doing. In short if you want expensive but good food Smith the Grocer cafe might be a good idea.
This cafe is very aesthetic. It has a great atmosphere and the food is pretty good. I would recommend this hidden gem!
Today my daughter and I enjoyed a delicious lunch at Smith the Grocer. Their wonderful flavoursome food never fails to deliver and the lovely Mary, who owns & hosts the cafe, is always a charming presence! Thank you all for a great dining experience.
Its always busy here! Coffee and desserts were great, and you sit inside this old bank which makes the experience a little bit more unique than other cafes.
Very busy cafe in Old Bank Arcade but we thought prices were abit on the expensive side. Lovely decor and certainly a cafe worth going to
Went here specifically for their porridge that the no longer have on the menu. Really nice substitute date and apple scone for $6. Coffee not great for $5.70 regular. Had to dump it and go buy another from Pravda around the corner. Lesson learnt: - (
Awesome variety of healthy and naughty sweet treats. Generous and plump cakes, slices, scrolls and scones which were fresh and looked homemade. I bought a small collection for my colleagues and we enjoyed them all. The raw chocolate dream cake and moist carrot cake were standouts.
If you want fast, fresh, incredibly delicious brunch served with a smile - look no further. Great atmosphere in the Old Bank. Can't believe how quick our food came. We were so impressed.
Smith the Grocer has somehow become my girlfriend and I's Saturday post gym treat (counter productive, I know).
Easily one of the tastiest breakfasts in Wellington which is apparent from the fact it is often quite busy here at all times of the day, but regardless of that, there is pretty much always seating available.
Prices are also very good considering it's great location and the Eggs Benedict is to die for!
Wow this place is super expensive, especially for a glorified cafe. I guess it's fine if you are a trust fund beneficiary or celebrity. The food looks great, but so does a Mercedes, I would rather not mortage the house for a meal.
