Thai Kai Restaurant

This is not authentic Thai it’s a European version.
Had duck pad Thai, sweet sour chicken and crispy pork and BBQ pork on rice.
All were watery and no flavour, even the dog wouldn’t eat it.absolute disappointment when the price is so expensive.
I recommend Thai express levin

-Sizzling Roast duck was cold, the hottest thing was the vegetables that accompanied it.
- Flavour of Duck was very bland and lacked seasoning also.
- Duck was very dry despite having a sauce with it.

When passed this on to the owner she just went "oh" that was all, when passed onto staff after they collected our plates they said "yeah, sometimes it's like that"
Honestly can say I'm never going there again.
So disappointing.

Worst Thai food I have experienced. Took one mouthful and had to spit it out! Even my partner wouldn't eat it. Watery curry and chicken on rice looked horrible. Poor service and when I asked to change my order after 30 seconds they wouldn't even though I haven't paid. I will not be back.

This restaurant advertises their opening and closing times. But when I tried to phone in an order. Well before the closing time. I was told "sorry but its a slow night and our kitchen closed early". I can't imagine that they care about their patrons at all. I only gave 1 star because that was the lowest on offer. I'm now ordering my Thai food from southend takeaway in Raumati South. Its a lot farther away from me (drive time) but the pad thai is Devine and customer service is unquestionably the best.

This is the worst Thai food I have ever eaten & I have eaten a lot of Thai food. The curry puffs were alright, the tofu red curry I ordered came with beef instead of tofu which was very chewy thin strips of beef, the curry lacked flavour & was VERY watery. The beef massaman however had delicious slow cooked beef, unfortunately the curry itself lacked flavour & was also VERY watery. The satay chicken roti wrap was tasty and came with a generous serving of chicken but was very salty & I like my food saltier than most. The food took 30mins from ordering which is not too bad it did seem busy, surprisingly. The staff at the counter were very friendly. Overall a disappointing experience, I will never eat here again.

New favourite Thai Restaurant. Great service complemented the fantastic food. Fresh ingredients, beautiful flavours. If you haven't already, it's a must to check them out. A+

Dining in is great and prices are expected. The takeaways are alright, though often we've found they've deliberately under filled the rice containers, so we end up without enough rice and too much curry.

Very nice food, the staff are very good. Great for a small group to dine have a few drinks and feel like it was a great night.

Good food and good service.
Update to review Feb 2022 - now charging a 2.5% surcharge on pay wave, just another way to gouge customers, I won't be going back, I'll spend my money elsewhere.

Gave this one a second try because many of my friends on the coast are big fans of the restaurant. For Saturday nights ordering with at least 30 minutes advance is a must. The place is popular because the food is great. Bear in mind that if you order on the spot at the counter you are likely to have a long wait.
On my first time going I was told 15 minutes delay at the moment of placing my order which I found reasonable for a busy night. That ended up being 1 hr 15 min which I timed well because I was anxiously checking my phone. Probably would've been better to at least have someone telling me after 40 minutes wait that my order was in progress.
Star rating relates to food, which has fantastic portions and is great value for money. I would reccommend to have an option to order and pay online to be available, especially on busy nights.

Nice atmosphere and really nice food. Had the mausamum curry and really enjoyed it. Nice portions.

Went here for two nights in a row while staying in the area each time trying different meals. Can recommend the sizzling dishes, and enjoyed the entree selection. Very tasty.

Regular here since 2018. King prawn Thai basil fried rice, mild - every single time. It's a winner.

As walk-in they were so good to accommodate us. Service great, food lovely and glad we stopped on our way home.

First time there. Food was yum. Menu had photos of every meal and didn't disappoint. NZ hot is very hot! Affordable and nice atmosphere.

The staff were super friendly, said would take 15mins and took less than 5. Super yum aswell and good size. Thanks so much

Best thai on the coast. Where from Wellington and now live on the coast. By far the best thai up here. Service is awesome, ladies are lovely. Food so tasty and a nice chilled atmosphere. Our favourite place to dine out
