Wellington Zoo reviews
81Considering the space available it is a very good zoo. Every time I go there, there are improvements, trying to give the animals better spaces. I still miss the elephant (Kamahi I think)
Great zoo, well laid out with a great interactive feel. Low fences and clean enclosures. Best zoo in the country.
Fantastic layout, not too big (which I liked), staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Great way to spend a portion of your day.
We had a great time at the zoo. My daughter and I were able to do the meerkat encounter and they are so cute. They trampled all over us and we loved it We learnt all about them too
The enclosures for the animals are definitely better than when I last visited.
Was here with my two boys on Monday 9th October. Up visiting from invercargill.
I'm usual not a zoo / captive animal person but the enclosures for the animals weren't to bad. Albeit the likes of the tiger, lion and others need company I believe.
My boys certainly enjoyed the experience and would recommend it as a once off for visiting.
Kids would love the place and should install an appreciation of God's created creatures.
Really nice feel. Nice and natural for the animals. I even enjoyed not seeing some animals, as it felt more realistic. We got to see one of the glorious lions, which felt amazing. We went for the Snow Leopards, but I found the otters, kangaroo's and the lion the most amazing. The snow leopards were just at the glass part of the enclosure.
Always a nice place to spend a few hours, not only do u get to see the animals, but great views of wellington too. Very good value for $. Just the food side of things that let it down unfortunately. Both places either seem to forget your order altogether or they take forever.
Fun, friendly and perfect for a sunny day with pre-schoolers and a picnic. We have an annual pass and keep renewing it each year as it's such great value. The staff are very passionate about the animals too.
Mixed feelings about the Wellington Zoo. It’s cool to see all the different animals but some have quite small enclosures which is sad. Why do the lions have such a small enclosure?: (
Definitely what you make of it, went with a group and was slightly disappointed the first half of the trip, lack of animals to see and the cafe inside the zoo was shut, hot day and we were looking forward to a cold beverage and a bite to eat. If we knew the cafe inside was shut we would have got lunch at the entrance cafe. Second half was amazing and the trip was made with the chimpanzee close encounters with the kids.
The zoo is always a good place to take the visitors or kids. Always some good views of some interesting animals. And the insect house always a great hide and seek with some icky friends.
Didn't warn us what is available to see so it was a big walk full of disappointment. Lions tigers and monkey island was all empty as well as the kiwi enclosure
A lovely visit today, lots of animals to be seen having their kai, playing and enjoying the lovely spring weather. Amazing appearance by the Sun Bear too. Thanks to all the zookeepers for their answers to our questions
I asked for the night time monkey service program and my offer got rejected. I offered full pay and you still said no. Please make the monkey service program more operational. Thanks. That is monkey.
Disappointed. 50 years ago was magnificent and twice as big. Not natural as it used to be. Sorry but must be said and prices won't encourage visitors. (Especially for a couple and two kids)
Great zoo! Staff were super friendly and the zookeepers shared some very interesting facts about the animals they care for!
Just went to the cafe. Plenty of room and very popular on a good day for the zoo. Helpful staff.
I have mixed feelings about this zoo. It is clearly well kept, but many animals have very low space to stay and they go round and round and round.also, having all these slopes does not help.the zoo itself is quite small with not so many animals, but the slopes make you feel tired quickly. Probably a more flatter spot would have worked better.
Went for a visit if the exhibit wasn't under maintenance you could hardly see any animals. Very disappointed.
