Ebisu

This was the worst tasting menu experience I’ve had. The only memorable (in a positive way) course was the duck breast. Everything else was mediocre quality and fairly bland relying heavily on sauces to add flavor— and they used the same sauce on 5 items of the tasting menu so if you weren’t a fan the first time you likely wouldn’t enjoy the majority of the dishes. The sashimi was fine but nothing out of the ordinary. The pace of the dishes coming out from the kitchen felt rushed and each dish was brought out by different people so the information in the descriptions differed strongly taking away from the service quality. My husband and I hoped this would be a nice meal for our last night in New Zealand and didn’t expect to have to deal with screaming kids and large families at $145 NZD a head. The sake pairing was quite good and was where we felt most of the value of the price came from even though it was only a $35 up charge from the regular tasting menu. If you are looking for a high-quality, creative tasting menu for a special occasion or even just a date night, I’d suggest going somewhere else. Perhaps things are better ordering individual items yourself but I wouldn’t go back to find out.

First time, but the service was so bad I have to comment. We're 4 people, ordered lunch at the same time, it came individually, the last one 30 minutes after the first, although it was the same dish. Had tempura, simply not great. I don't think we'll be back.

So good! Omakase sushi, Miso eggplant and Anmitsu dessert were our highlights. Service is great and attentive. Great vibes. They even got out a birthday candle for my fiancée to top off dessert!

We celebrated Valentines day here. The food was beautiful and plentiful. There was a great variety and we all had a wonderful evening.

Instead, this review will be primarily subjective. My personal priorities when visiting a restaurant include interior design, atmosphere, and customer service.

As I am not a professional food critic, I believe that most good restaurants offer quality food, or at the very least, a dish that suits each individual's preference. Ebisu is a Japanese restaurant, when you go there you sort of understand what they have on their menu. The restaurant features an appealing interior, a pleasant atmosphere, and attentive staff.

I ordered the rainbow sushi at Ebisu, and I could not taste the difference in freshness compared to sushi I previously had from a supermarket on Queen Street. There are some next level extras compared to sushi from the restaurant and the supermarket. While the taste was not distinctly better, the overall dining experience at Ebisu was truly what set it apart.

The sushi here is was so delicious. It’s ideal to order and share for the table. The staff was super friendly and helped with recommendations. The omakase sashimi was excellent and so was the edamame.

We had the traditional set menu and it was so good. Everything was perfect with great service.

Amazing food and very well presented. Soft shell crab was the favourite! And dessert was really decandent and not overly sweet. Cocktails we made well - even the gin special took us by surprise, was really nice. Staff was friendly and very patient with us. Thanks for the excellent dining experience!

We enjoyed the food here. The restaurant had nice vibes and the food was good. Few parking at Britomart carpark too so can't complain.

Fresh produce and reasonably priced. However dishes only one grade above a takeaway sushi bar, not what I expected for the hype. Was hoping for authentic Japanese. Probably appeal to many Kiwis.

A very cosy and spacious restaurant in Quay street. Friendly staff with lots of smiles on the face, makes you feel welcomed. Bento with the char grilled scotch fillet medium rare done is my favourite. Ebi mayo is a must try dish as well. Must come again, highly recommended

The food is amazing. The small protions not worth the amount you pay. You will leave hungry, or feeling out of pocket.

Maybe i expected too much of name value. We had 90$ set menu as recommended by FOH. Sashimi and beef steak was good. Portion was good. After all the courses, we were full and satisfied. BUT dont try teriyaki chicken and salmon. Very dry chicken thigh with weird corn and salmon wjth yuzu mayo and fresh carrot/daicon was weited combination. FOH was very kind and well explained. With 90$, i think we can find better one.

My partner and I went to here for our anniversary dinner, the staff were very welcoming from the get go. We got the set menu, it didn’t take long until the dishes started coming out. We were honestly blown away by the quality of the food and how creative the plates looked. The tuna sashimi was the best I’ve ever had and my partner thoroughly enjoyed the duck. The staff were so friendly throughout the whole dining experience, and the ambience of the restaurant made the night perfect. Definitely recommend this for everyone!

Had a fabulous night at Ebusi last night. The staff were impeccable, attentive and professional. The food was delicate and delicious. Our 4 different dietary needs were met really well. Very full tummies. Delicious and well worth the set menu option. Thank you Ebisu

Sushi was great but definitely on the $$$ side. Cocktails were a bit diluted … Not sure it’s all worth it but it is a place to try at least once.

Awesome food. Friendly staff. We had the vegetarian tasting menu. I was a bit concerned it wouldn't be very filling but I was pretty full by time we left.
Lots of small dishes over the course of an hour. Not rushed but we weren't sitting around waiting.
The tempura was probably the best I've ever had. Light and crispy!
