Grand Central Apartments reviews
34Warning: don't stay here once we checking out they will charge cleaning fee eventhough our room isn't dirty cheat management.arrogant staff they don't know new zealand culture, i'm realy regret stay here
Worst apartment ever
All the lifts are not working over 3 months
And there are only 1 stairs can use it
If you live end of the corridor, you will need to walk over 50m to the stairs.
If you are trying to book an apartment here from overseas, please don’t. I strongly recommend viewing the apartment before your stay. I lived in this apartment for 4 years. Even though you are paying the same price, the room sizes, cleanliness and facilities are a bit different. My room has a balcony (sort of), get a lot of sun and can open the window wide open. And we keep it clean and tidy. So, it is a really good experience. In recent years, this place accepts a lot of dodgy people which means you can sometimes be stalked and disturbed. Be alert while you are in the laundry room or car park. Good luck!
With minimal capex this entire complex could be revitalized meantime come grab an apartment, its a great vibe
Went there for viewing with my friend, the lady was very rude, very unprofessional, she was literally scolding us saying she have so much work to do beside showing us the place but we called them and make a booking before we go ofcourse.she left us and walk away when we ask couple of questions. Building management is very bad.
Full of history and memories of the Auckland central Railway station.
Great cafe and bar in the entrance.
Great building that used to be excellent economy accomodation. Now however (2022) it is home to a variety of loud, inconsiderate, aggressive tenants with no consideration for neighbours or anyone else.
Condition of apartments -
Not good, though some are better than others. Best to take a look at a few.
On site building managers-
At the reception there's a few building managers who manage some of the units. From my experience the young guy is unprofessional, unhelpful, hostile and dismissive. The older managers can be friendly and helpful.
Security -
There is swipe access security into the main area. People steal parcels delivered to reception and the managers don't care, so be careful about getting things delivered.
The ventilation in units is minimal -
A small fan in the bathroom which doesn't do much and a window that doesn't open far in each room. After a shower in the summer the unit feels like a sauna, not the mention any bad smells get trapped in too.
The communal kitchen -
Many stoves and ovens do not work, and some cabinets which house the fridges do not lock and are in a very worn condition. Some people do not clean up after themselves, so stoves and table can be quite dirty at times.
Laundary room -
About 10 washers and dryers. Roughly $3 for a wash and $3 for a dry. One of the highlights of the place.
Elevators -
There is a few elevators in the building. They can a bit dodgy, and for the time I was there many times they were out of service for extended periods.
There are some units that aren't bad for their price, but be prepared for a poorly maintained communal kitchen and minimal ventilation. Overall I would not recommend renting here unless price is an issue.
If your staying here for a few nights as a hotel experience it is probaly a bit better.
Historical train station vibe with a twist.the caged reception was pretty cool! Stayed with partner overnight, good location and easy access to the city.
Lived here when it was a student's hostel under the University of Auckland. Beautiful place to stay. Love the decor and architecture.
My room faced the station, very noisy from trains from 6: 00 till midnight, avoid if you need to work or sleep during the day.
Building interior is like a escape room nightmare from the Shining with endless corridors that look the same.
If you want budget, get what you pay for.
I rented here for about a year. Private rental. However, the laundry facilities are good. The staff are mainly friendly. The night manager is absolutely lovely. I found it reasonably quiet even with the trains and my room being right next to the kitchen. I stayed in one room on the Spark Arena side and that was not my favourite as when there was something happening at Spark Arena it was loud and hard to sleep.
I couldn't believe these were apartments to be honest like definitely built different on the outside.outside so beautiful with an old school feel to it. On the inside I couldn't be anymore disappointed.think of it like this u look at a cute picture of a beach.then decided hmm imma go to the beach and its a stream.
Shower didn't work. Needed painting. Carpet needed cleaning or replacing. Parking long walk from car to room. Noise from trains right outside window.
Terrible. Rude man at reception. The building STINKS. The shower was broken and shower cubicle, and hand basin was filthy.
One star rating, because the bed was pretty comfy and the hotel is located next to Spark Arena, which was very handy for why we were in Auckland.
Do not order any food from oriental express situated near the entrance of the building.
After waiting 25mins for my food to arrive, the meat was raw and the bottom bun was missing.
Talking to the staff at oriental express, reassured me they would make me a new burger meal. After waiting another 25mins i was told by the staff that there was no more burger buns and my meal was not coming.
Please spend your money on other close by, much better food outlets.
Dilapidated, shabby.with minimal capex this entire complex could be revitalized in stunning ways
Surprisingly clean and comfortable, and good value for money. Would definitely opt to stay here again for a cheap yet pleasant accommodation
Very cozy place, very friendly staff especially staff from Indonesia Mr. Dennis. Love to go back for staying again in here. And very near with the spark arena and railway station. Very recommended
Good rooms, reasonable rates, decent rules and decent facilities, perfect if you're a student, a single person, or just starting out in your career.
