Northcote Tavern reviews
69A big pub with two bars, a large beer garden and lots of parking. A separate food counter means that it can handle large numbers without getting overwhelmed. A good Sunday roast.
LOVE THIS PLACE! Reminds of a UK proper pub and I always love coming here for the service, the beer garden, the atmosphere and the food and drink selections! Great roast, great staff too! I wish it was closer to where I live in the city but well worth the journey out and the Uber back
We have been to the Northcote Tavern many times and will continue to return. The food is excellent with a good range of options.
Don’t take away the wooden sauces/cutlery box to your table though! We got a big “telling off” for doing this (just enough cutlery for 4) other tables had the wooden boxes on their table too!
We were told we were “depriving other customers” Ooops! We could have been informed in a nicer manner! Other than that one incident, we had a great Sunday lunch! It was a lovely day and the garden was full with families enjoying the sun and food! We will be back!
We only ate fries. Service at the bar was warm and friendly. Lots of families and kids, but we sat in the smoking area, outside the back of the main bar - there were only vapers - and no children. Families tended to sit on the big grass area out back. I found the wine list disappointing.
Great old kiwi style family pub with such a brilliant outdoor indoor environment suitable for the whole family.
I truly hope this venue never changes a.its a staple of tradition
Cool old fashioned pub. We went there for lunch on Sunday not long after opening. Beef & chicken burgers didn’t disappoint.
Great place to enjoy a great beer and food. Enjoyed eating outside in the sun around beautiful gardens. Loads of memorabilia. Scottish and Irish.
The Northcote Tav is a great pub for a lazy Sunday lunch, or watching the Rugby on their many big screens. Food is really good quality, never disappointed.
The cozy Highlander Bar is a calmer place. The sports mad public bar is a great place to catch up with the mates and watch some sports. There is a big outdoor area that is perfect for a Sunday afternoon and family friendly.
Love the food and the service, amazing! Husband ordered the Rendang Pie for myself and it soooo good and delicious, freshly made and with crispy curry leaves added to it, we will defintely come back!
We were taking our 9 year old out for her birthday dinner with family. We had planned on taking her elsewhere but the traffic was heavy and quickly changed our minds to going to the Northcote Tavern. We were warmly greeted by the barman in the Eatery, who inquired about our 10 year old on her crutches. Each member of staff interacted warmly and friendly towards our girls, especially the two young waitresses who sang happy birthday to Miss 9 after being asked as a 'wind up' by the big sister. They were keen and sang immediately. The locals were friendly too and joined in. Our meals were substantial, well priced and good, tasty pub food, enjoyed by all. A nice fire on a cold night too. Thank you for making Miss 9 year old's birthday a great memory. We would thoroughly recommend.
Lovely fish and chips. Full dining room of happy people enjoying time quietly together. No loud music to contend with.
Well done
Such a great historical pub. Great venue with huge putdoir table area with loads of room for kids to play. The food is great pub style, great flavour, great size, good prices. Deserts are great here. Sorry no photos, will add on next visit.
I like this place, in summer you can eat and have a drink on the grass. Reasonable pub food, does not try too hard, and has Emerson's Pilsner on tap!
Top notch food! Dont expect to get your regular mediocre pub food here, these guys serve some really tastey food and cater to all
A character building with a few too many TV screens showing all manner of sports. Didn't try the food but it looked pretty good!
Everything good except for paying for food when you have to walk out back and down steps to kitchen to pay.
Didnt like the high tables. You simply can't find a way to seat properly because your knees are always hitting the table.
New kitchen is very disappointing. Cant even make a bowl of chips. Went there expected our old favorites but we were told that the new chef changed the menu.really? One of the fewer pubs to serve toasties on their menu was now pretending to be an upmarket pub whilst selling meat hamper tickets. Please.old school ambience and honest food is why we were going there.leave the smoked aioli to Ponsonby hipsters and do not serve me 5 greasy, bottom of the fryer chips and charge me 9 bucks for it.
Lovely service. The food was delicious. Pork dinner awesome. Very thoughtful ladies who carried the cake into the dining room. Was a very nice 90th birthday. Thankyou.
Pleasant pub with typical pub food well cooked and presented. Would welcome an expanded fish menu.
