Posted on behalf for my wife.
I’ve been a client of Hauraki Medical Centre and Fred Thomas Medical Centre for 20 odd years.
I have been dissatisfied with the service for many years but out of convenience I keep going to this clinic.
I have been judged by nurses when receiving a measles jab, apparently there was a scarcity (even when I explained I was in a frontline role seeing upwards of 30+ different people everyday and going into their homes) how rude of a nurse to judge me for wanting to keep the community safe!
My recent trip has put the nails in the coffin - rude reception staff, total and complete miscommunication by medical staff, unfilled prescriptions and my husband drives to collect them and told there is no prescription, 15 min holds on the phone - the list is endless.
They have made me feel like they are just a money making enterprise and just want my $61.00
If you are like me and want to deal with kind, understanding people when you are sick - don’t come here.
I’m looking forward to exploring other local compassionate medical centres for me and and family.

I absolutely love my Doctor Miriam, she is so professional and puts you at total ease - very organised and compassionate.

One of the reception staff can be very rude, over the phone and in person. I've been placed in the waiting bays (behind curtains) - and have heard the nurses talking about me twice, which was unprofessional and uncomfortable. I have also waited for a long time in the reception with my toddler and then told my appointment has been cancelled for 'no show' when I was sitting there all along, obviously trying to keep my daughter preoccupied and had been to the reception to confirm appointment. Overall very average customer service, but I keep going back as my doctor is exceptional.

Terrible customer service experience. Waited 25 minutes after my scheduled appointment time and it wasn’t until I asked before I was told there was a delay and there were now 2 other people ahead of me. A bit of common courtesy to have told me earlier would have been nice. Not going back.

SO BAD. Every time you call they try to give you appointments 2 weeks away, every time you go in they are over 1 hour late.

Just changed to another practice. Doctors are lovely but front office and support staff are unhelpful - can only assume overloaded with work as they're unhelpful and appear stressed which is not a great to pass on to patients. Test results rarely followed up, referrals not provided when requested, and the prep work required before visiting a specialist was not done resulting in a very frustrated specialist (& cost to me). Their app is also very poorly designed and could barely read on mobiles. Sorry, wouldn't recommend if you want personal care for your family.

I recently visited Fred Thomas for the first time and had the most lovely experience with Dr Lia. She is very thorough and you do not feel rushed at all. Her compassionate and non-judgmental approach goes a long way. She went above and beyond following test results and it is the first time that I have felt comfortable with a doctor in New Zealand (and that is after 5 years of trial and error.) thanks again!

Reception staff is great, but always have to wait 30 to 45 minutes, never running on time, frustrating if you are always on time.

I just had my first appointment at this clinic. The receptionist Jan was lovely and welcoming and made me feel right at home. Dr Miriam Jobson had the loveliest demeanor and was opening and gave no judgements. I was so comfortable with her that I was happy to have a test that I would usually not be so keen on. She gave me the perfect amount of professionalism and personality to where I felt very confident in her ability and knowledge. I am so happy I enrolled here and walked away knowing that I will be very well taken care of.

Reception wasn't so good about a month ago, but seems to have improved, depends on who you get.

Been going to the same doctor for more than ten years. No complaints there but the receptionists could be more friendly both on the phone and in person. They always make you feel like they are far too busy for you and can’t wait to hang up. Never had a really pleasant experience ringing them. Puts you off asking for what you need.

The nurse sees you first and you are taken to an area of beds cordoned off by curtains and you vitals are taken and are asked your reasons for seeing the doctor. I was in a row with two others very close by and could clearly hear them next door to me. Total invasion of privacy. I do not want to reveal my personal details of my visit to the doctor for all and sundry to hear. Very embarrassing and very unprofessional. The place also charges for every minor thing so if you want to go for a smear you are charged a doctor's fee and a fee for the smear also.

Our son was born on the 21st December and we booked a circumcision for the 15th January with Doctor John Russell. On the morning of our appointment, one hour before we are scheduled to see Dr Russell, we get a call to say that he will not be able to see us for two weeks. This means that our son will now be over the 6 week recommended timeframe for the surgery. We have call every other medical centre and no one can help us for at least 3 weeks. The woman who called us to deliver the news did not even seem to be bothered about how this may effect our son and due to there incompetence he may now not be able to be circumcised or he will now have to endure more pain as the older the child is the more painful it can be. If the doctor was away for 2 weeks, surely the receptionist would have known this when taking our booking for the appointment. It's shocking service and this will be spread wide and far.

Completely unorganised, they always run late!
I booked 2 vaccinations for my children 1 week earlier, arrived for them to tell me they had given away 1 of them and I had to return another day, frustrating!
Same day my husband made an appointment 1 hour prior to the time which she advised him to leave early from work which he did. Arrived on time 1 hour later, he waited 45min until he was seen by that same nurse! Completely unexceptionable, will be moving doctors

I called up to inquire about a treatment and was met with a terribly rude receptionist who told me to go else where. Disappointing.

Has nearly all facilities you need. Doctors, physio, podiatrist, chemist and radiology. Good local medical centre with lots of parking. Watch out for 60 minute time limit.
