Parking is very hard, but eventually made my way in. Oysters (pacific coast clevedons) were delicious.

Amazing food as always, I had the goats cheese souffle as I always do and it consistently impresses me. It tasted a bit different this time, but still just as good. I had the venison which was a special, though I would love to see it on the permanent menu as it was truly amazing, it would be my go to main if it were not on the specials menu. 10/10 go here quite often now and it never disappoints.

Enjoyed the experience.
Tasty food, good service, and a cozy atmosphere. Beautiful both inside & outside.
It was the right decision to cross the road after a movie and go for dinner.

Our food was exquisite. The beef cheek special was next level. They do a simple, solid menu at the Engine Room but it's done really well. Must make a special mention to the wait staff, the lady who served us was absolutely brilliant, that perfect mix of professional but with enough fun to make it feel cool and special.

Finally made it to The Engine Room.it was a busy Saturday evening and we were seated near the kitchen end where we could see the kitchen staff prepping the food. Staff are very polite and attentive. The chalboard has the food menues listed so everything has to be read off the board. We ordered Fish crudo and smaoked snapper and goats cheese ravioli which was scrumptious. Mains were the Snapper and lamb, both fishes were full of flavours and plated beautifully. We decided to try the quince crumbles with vanilla ice cream to fisnish of with a dessert wine. Wonderful ambiance. Minor issue was finding parking on a busy Saturday evening but apart from that everything was wonderful. Worth a visit for all foodies.

Been there to night, pork snitzel nothing more than pub food and embarrassingly our lovely waitress had no room to move around our table.tables are way to close together. We won't be back

Excellent but…
The food was excellent, as was the service. Our server, Tegan, was charming. The downside to all this was that the lights were dimmed so low we couldn’t see what we were eating. Enjoying good food is about seeing as well as tasting.

Grace our server was absolutely wonderful. She's a delight and made our dinner 500% better. Goats cheese souffle and chocolate truffles were my favorite dishes

Beautiful amazing food, with awesome service. The owners have not only created an amazing place, but they have maintained its magnificence for a decade or more. Well done and thank you.

My wife and I visited The Engine Room for a b'day dinner last week - and it was fantastic. Lovely attentive staff and a relaxed-but-classy atmosphere. The food was delicious, and we'll definitely be back!

Over priced for what it offers. Having to read the menu from a black board placed high up and in some instances unreadable is not acceptable for the prices charged. When you charge $47 for a main course and then have to pay antoher $12 - $14 dollars for a side dish of vegetables you need to do better. I won't be back.

Had a fantastic lunch and dinner here recently. Highlights were the chicken liver parfait, steak frites and if you like chocolate desserts the Cremino al Cioccolato is a must try. Staff are also friendly and the service was excellent.

Have been here twice and both times left disappointed with the food. Food is decent but expensive. Made a request for no peanuts on a meal that had dukkha but attendant served it to the table with no mention of the allergen. To spoiil the evening further - felt like I was overseas with the tip request at the counter being handed a bill with a pen and then the eftpos tip request.wages are decent here and the food was expensive so ditch the tip

We had a great dinner with family from out of town. The serving staff were accommodating and answers all of my relatives' many questions with ease and patience. The crayfish salad was particularly standout from the entrees - what a delightful brightness to the dish! The beef cheek special was tender and rich. I was hoping for some more interesting flavours paired with the beef, but the dish was overall balanced with the veg options. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Thanks for having us.

Best service we have had in a NZ restaurant. Food delicious (goats cheese soufflé, schnitzel, beef cheek -special, and gigantic profiteroles). We will be back.

Real menus would help. Unless you have greedy eyesight and a very supple neck the board is hard to see.

Beef cheeks were amazing!
Elderly parents couldn't read the menu written on the wall so the waitress printed one out for them. Good cocktails too!

We went here for a friend's birthday and the staff went out of their way to make it memorable. From the little card on the table that said 'Happy Birthday' to the complimentary amuse bouche to the little candle on the desert, these were the touches that made our evening at The Engine Room so wonderful.

The wine list is extensive and there are plenty of options for spirit drinkers as well. My friend had the comfit duck and I had the line caught fish and both were great! My fish was beautifully cooked and yet appropriately crisp on the outside while the crayfish bisque in which it sat was flavorful. It would have been nice to get more than a quarter of the fennel bulb but overall it didn't impact my enjoyment at all. We ordered some sides as well; the off-menu cauliflower gratin and the potato gratin (I doubt I've ever eaten a meal without potato in it). The portions seemed a bit tiny for $18 and I wouldn't go back for the potato gratin but the cauliflower one was rather nice. Desserts were pretty great. My friend had the profiteroles and cleaned out their plate even through complaints that they were "absolutely full. " I had an off-menu peach tart slice, served with ice cream. And it was brilliant! It should definitely be on the menu! Absolutely scrumptious!

Service was impeccable! The server showed up regularly without us having to look for us, she was friendly, knew the menu well and her recommendations were spot on. The ambience was nice and even though tables seemed close to each other, we couldn't overhear any conversations and weren't disturbed in any way. The lighting was a bit dim and we had to whip out our phone torchlights to read the menu but any brighter lighting and the ambience might have been ruined. I guess I'll just have to forego my vanity and get myself some glasses)

All in all, we had a lovely evening with great food and drinks and service. I will definitely be back.
