I've had my fair share of luxurious dining experiences, here and abroad, and The Engine Room is definitely top of the heap. Service was immaculate, questions were answered with experience and accomdatioms were made almost instinctively. The food was unfaultable. Every dish was delicious and delivered layers of flavour. For the people like me who are fussy about cutlery and the like, the tableware was hefty and refined, the cloth napkin starched, and neither chairs not table wobbled. As someone who is all about the experience, I'd rate this as top tier and will be raving about it to all who shall listen. I must thank the staff for an immensely enjoyable evening, and I look forward to dining here again soon. Do not hesitate, do not pass this up, you will not regret it.

Lovely meal for an 'occasion'. We knew it was a bit pricey (have been previously). Starters were fine but my main course was the steak and it was undercooked. I realise I should have said something but in fact it's quite hard to see in there as the lighting is so dark - lots of people had their 'phone flashlights on to read the menu. At the end of the meal on paying I was asked if everything was ok and I identified my steak was undercooked. I got a 'oh sorry about that' response. All in all an ok experience but at almost $500 for three of us it might be a while before we return.

Beautiful environment. Coconut Tapioca excellent. Venison and Duck both very good but steak very, very average.
One of our group wanted medium-well done and one wanted well done - specifically saying no pink at all in it (not popular I know, but when you are paying $47 for a steak and fries you should be able to order it how you want it). Both arrived as medium with what looked like store bought thin fries (honestly.identical to McDonald's, just saltier). So he politely asked the waitress if he could get it cooked more - to a 'well done'. It arrived back as medium-well done.still pink in the middle. But given we had all eaten 3/4 of our meals, he just ate it. Overall, pretty pricey for a thin steak with macca's fries.

Third time there and it never disappoints. The food was divine and we had the lovliest waitress who was very knowledgeable about the menu.

Beautiful ambience, exceptional cuisine and staff that take the trouble to explain the menu to you. Tried almost everything on the starters and main menu. My favourites on the starters were the Whitebait Fritters, Oysters, Chicken Liver Parfait & the Crayfish Salad. In Mains, nothing compares to the Venison Steak, Beef Cheek & Steak Frites ‘Hereford Scotch’ and the fresh line caught fish. And finally in desserts, a must try is the Coconut Tapioca, the Churros and Profiteroles. In short, this place is simply amazing and 5

The white bait omelet is to die for. Shame it’s seasonal.

Very nice feel and buzz post lockdown. Food very good as usual and the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. Definitely one of Aucklands best.

If you want top notch you've found it. Amazing dishes with a wide selection. Octopus and chorizo salad was delicious and the Beef fell apart at the touch of a fork. Staff give you just the right level of attention and you'll want for nothing. Parking is an issue so allow time to find one and walk as the Bridgeway theatre is nearby and also popular.

Funny enough, I was thinking that this was going to be a fine dining restaurant and our friend joining us said it's more like a bistro, and sure enough, it's listed as a bistro on here In that respect, it gets a bit loud inside for sure, but it's very nice overall with a delectable menu and pleasant service that is good for couples to small groups. To name my favourites of the night, the rhubarb cocktail was surprisingly addicting, tagliatelle entree with truffle shavings was a great start, and the beef cheek special melted in your mouth whilst the venison was good to have once in a blue moon. The pear crumble dessert was a nice finish. However, now that I'm thinking about the menu, how people are supposed to read the chalk board menu when seated to the side or behind it?

Overpriced and overrated. Entrees very good. Steak and venison chewy and tad overcooked. Doughnut churros? Very slow service but staff very warm and friendly.

Inviting venue with tasteful decor and warm, intimate lighting. The inventive menu is unpretentious and delicious. Food allergies are taken very seriously. As a celiac vegetarian, I had some appealing menu options and felt completely reassured my dietary requirements would be accommodated without it being a problem. I absolutely loved the zesty Thai tofu starter and falafel, eggplant and quinoa main dish. And you cannot leave without sampling the handmade chocolate truffles… to die for! Service is friendly, attentive and capable - they have a wonderful front of house team. Highly recommend this place - it’s going in my favourites list!

Went here for our 50th wedding anniversary on Friday night and was very disappointed, paying the prices that are charged we thought the meal was pretty pub style, very average you would expect fine dining at these prices. Two of our party had steak which came with chips and mesclun leafs, very plain. Another had snapper which was over cooked and the service was very average. Wouldn’t go back, way overpriced. Also only one choice of Wine by the glass

Solid across the board from deco, service, drinks and through the whole menu. We had the bluff oysters, chicken liver parfait, soufflé, duck confit and pavlova, and every dish was well done. Good cocktails and wine selection. I think the biggest strength of this restaurant is its consistency.

Cannot fault the Engine Room on any count. The staff are very well trained and polite - your experience starts with the friendly welcome at the door and continues throughout the evening with 5 * service and food. Fabulous wine selection as well. I cannot go there without ordering the Goat Cheese Souffle! Absolutely, positively the best food, atmosphere and service!
