The Flying Moa reviews
67 UODATE: YOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO LEAVE A BAD REVIEW OR YOU RISK BEING BANNED FROM THE PREMISES. They clearly can't take constructive criticism. Their loss. Happy to provide proof if anyone would like. Have a lovely email from the general manager I'd love to share.
Ordered a Rendang curry. On the menu is states this curry includes cauliflower, chilli, fried onion, curry leaf, spring onion, naan for $20.50. There is an option to 'swap' chicken for $6. I asked to add chicken. They charged me $32.50. What did I swap the chicken for? Apparently cauliflower which was already included in the price of the curry. But according to them, if I add chicken I have to also pay an additional $6 for cauliflower. Rubbish illogical rip off.
Dissapointed with the large amount of noise. Maybe install sound dampers.
Also super angry as we all showed up for a bday dinner for family member only to find put that the all you can eat ribs are not currently given on covid alert level 2!
Lame!
We would not have come today if we had known.
Enjoyed a good chicken burger and chips followed by a mochaccino. Fascinated by ceiling lights made up of beer handles. Relatively few light bulbs, but with beer handles arranged in rows, makes them all appear to be individual lights!
Great place to come after work for a couple cold ones. Good atmosphere with plenty of tables inside and out. In winter sometimes the heaters outside don't cover the whole table so be mindful before you sit down.
The Moa platter is pretty
I used the womens restrooms on arrival, there was a mess of toilet paper all over the floor (not just a few pieces, but an entire roll). The first thing I noticed when seated at our table was that the music was unbearably loud, so much so that you almost have to yell at the person sitting opposite you so they can hear you.
Our table was in a nice spot next to the fire which was perfect for the current cold winter weather, however the next table was so close to ours that you cant help but hear their conversation and make awkward eye contact by accident.
The menu isnt very vast so I ordered the diablo burger with a banoffee hard shake, while my partner ordered the ribs with a side of onion rings. Our table wasn't set, nor did it get set during our time there. I had to take cutlery from the empty table behind us.
The burger was extremely dry and needed to be doused in sauce just to get it down, while the underwhelming presentation of both of our meals (as well as meals I saw being taken to other tables) looked like it had been made by a teen in a high school cooking class. The banoffee hard shake on the other hand, was delicious.
My partner could barely touch his meal because the ribs were so scalding hot. I had almost finished my meal by the time he could even start eating. They were also burnt and extremely difficult to cut up and eat. (Would make alot more sense to serve them already cut up). He did enjoy the onion rings.
I won't be returning here, and I wont be recommending it to anyone else. I do appreciate a great restaurant, the flying moa, unfortunately isnt one of those.
Family decided on Uber Eats for Boxing day- The Fly Moa they said!:/ Boston Burger came with free Metal like fishing hook in the burger! Pleasant but not overly concerned manager simy referred back to Uber for complaints.
Personally in those shoes I'd be pretty concerned about such issue.
Food was unbelievable. Fresh, delicious and fast friendly service. Nice setting with amazing vibes. I went in winter so never got to enjoy the outdoor setting so can't wait to go back now that the weather has warmed up a lot.
The burgers were great, and we loved our meals. Great place to see our friends and good selection of beers and drinks. We'll definitely be back again thanks
Hubby & son enjoyed the Eye Fillet Steak and my daughter & I enjoyed the ribs. Service was outstanding!
Definitely going back there
For the price you pay here the food is very greasy. My poor brother in-law is vegetarian and only had a vegetarian burger so there is no way to hide if it's bland and that's what happened. The chefs reactions was interesting as he clearly stated he's never had anything returned before! Would I recommend this place? Probably not.
The staff her are so stupid, sorry to be blunt, constantly being ignored and it wasn't even full. Its very annoying to be a paying customer and yet be ignored by the staff who would even give you eye contact and walk the other way when called over. We felt very unwelcomed and out of place, we will never ever come back to this place again.
The slaw with all 4 meals was not even up to the cheapest deli standards. When I commented to the staff taking the money all they said was Oh. This is the second recent meal not up to scratch. We used to go semi regularly.
Good bar! Great food and friendly staff! The hard shakes are awesome! Shake, cocktail and dessert or dinner in a glass!
Nice place to chill with friends, good food, great variety of drinks and friendly helpful staff, even the maintenance guy who does the soaps was a friendly chap. ;)
Quite noisy. Couldn't converse easily over the music. Otherwise nice place for a drink. Must try the quiz night.
Couldn't fault the food but it did seem to take a while given it was a quieter time of day (after 2pm), it may have been the hunger talking though. Wichita spicy ribs were a good size for a lighter meal and hard shakes menu (alcoholic milkshakes) were something a bit different. Both very tasty. Chilled out atmosphere apart from someone's unsupervised screaming kids playing tag near our outside table. Overall a nice lunch out.
Lastnight we went to the flying Moa on Lunn Avenue and I have to say that my partner, brother in law and myself are very disappointing in the restaurant for the way they misused the name of one of our sacred birds. A Moa is known to everyone as a flightless bird and is respected in my Maori culture. So why was it that there were pictures of a damn Lawn Mower with wings on the menu when a Moa and a MOWER are two totally different things. Highly disapointed!
Entree over cooked! Nice spread but tasteless.
Main wasn't the greatest have had better pork schnitzel!
Very expensive and food took a much longer time to come than normal. Looks like the menu has changed and definately not a fan of that new menu. Hopefully it changes again to something better
I like this pub, beer battered fries are the best in Auckland. Good range of lagers, ales, and spirits. Usual prices. Can be over run by singlets and sports sunnies on Friday/Saturday afternoons/evenings
