The Ponsonby Road Bistro

This place nestles in a bracket alongside SPQR and Prego on ponsonby road; the food and the service was good, the only detractor is that tables are quite close together to maximise covers which prevents an otherwise intimate evening. Good wine selection and nice decor. Good for groups as opposed to couples

Amazing food, so many options and portion sizes. Really good wine list and nice ambience. The staff are really friendly. Parking not too bad as it's near a few side streets as well as paid parking on ponsonby road

Stunning food! We had the Pizza and Salad both spectacular. They were generous portions so we really didn’t need the sides. Service was absolutely 5 star. Will certainly be returning

Having read Jesse Mulligan’s rave review, we returned after some years to Ponsonby Road Bistro for a birthday celebration. It’s been our go to restaurant in the past as the vegan and vegetarian options are typically tasty and tantalising. Tuesday was not such a night. Our wait person was enthusiastic and attentive but somehow things didn’t get communicated clearly between table and kitchen and two of us ended up with the wrong meals. We finally received the ordered meals after an awkward conversation with the maître d but the meals for two of us were fairly average in flavour though exquisitely attractive in presentation. The aubergine side and mains were very oily and heavy. The pesto on my meal was a deconstructed version but not enough of it to counteract a mush of white beans. I couldn’t get through it all. On the plus side the marscapone tart with peach and berries was superb. Maybe we were just expecting too much but no birthday acknowledgment at all despite deliberately including the info in my online booking. For me it felt like catching up with an old friend then realising perhaps you no longer have enough in common to repeat the experience. We’ll hang in to memories of past visits and hope we forget our latest.

I had a birthday dinner here last night with a friend and had the best experience! Staff were AMAZING and catered to my request to have a candle on the pudding for my friends birthday:) (Shout out to our waiter - didn't catch his name but he was a lovely bald guy - SUPERB customer service) Food is delicious! Highly recommend!

Greeted warmly on a last minute booking, great atmosphere, really fantastic food but most of all top notch service. We really felt quite special having an experience here. Valentino really made our evening, we are new parents and it will be memorable for us until we get a chance to come back. Thanks very much!

After our baby free night out started off a bit murky, Ponsonby Bistro came to the rescue and delivered on point! From the moment we walked in, we were not only greeted by a lovely warm atmosphere but also very welcoming staff. The service was top notch and the food was amazing! Relatively high prices but it's worth the dim lit atmosphere and vibe. The menu changes around seasonally which keeps the place diverse and they use a lot of unique fragrant ingredients that make the dishes pop. Would definitely recommend a date night here

An overall very good restaurant with good wine selections and food. Very well made traditional dishes with slight modern touch.

Amazing service and food.
We arrived after 9: 00 pm and got almost straight away a table.
The clams are out of this world, best clams I had in forever.
The eye fillet steak was cooked to perfection.
Just an amazing dinner and experience, we will be back for sure!

Truly the best place in town. Constantly changing menu always surprising but not overly challenging. Service unbelievably attentive plus ambience what you want for a great night out. I find it difficult to leave.

The Ponsonby Rd Bistro is one of the most consistently excellent restaurants in Auckland. The food never fails to impress. Always tricky to choose what to eat and drink as its all so genuinely good. Their wine list is easily one of the best in town. The team is always so welcoming. With all the 'new' eateries opening within the city I have often felt disappointed when I'd strayed away to try something 'new'. If you have never visited Ponsonby's best-kept secret, I suggest you do.

I wish you could choose 10 stars.because I would for this lovely bistro. The food and service are ALWAYS spot on and we're always happy we came!

One of my favourites great food and a big wine list by the glass. Warm friendly atmosphere and I can have an intimate chat without shouting!
