Xuxu Dumpling Bar / Perch Britomart reviews
38The ginger and prawn and the duck dumplings are AMAZING! I highly recommend. However the bannoffee dumplings, though a great concept, remains good only in concept. Underripe banana cooked in no sauce or butter- just dry. Just make banoffee dumplings at home if u wanna try them, and make sure to cook the banana in butter and brown sugar to caramelize it, and you'd be better off.
The best, top quality food, melting moments are their specialty.you will love the dumplings if you have it with the drinks and don't forget to order some chilly peanuts thats a bonus to add on the taste.enjoy the loud and momentous music while chilling out there in cold breeze but you will be occupied by the warm heater so don't worry the chilling breeze make sure to sneeze so you get along with the breeze hahahah just kidding look after your self and your friends.foood is awesome and staff is amazing
The best dumplings I have EVER tasted and I've had heaps. Need to return to taste the banoffee pie dumplings. Great friendly and efficient service. Thankyou all.
Savoury dumplings are something special. If you are feeling adventurous try the dessert dumplings, they are delicious
Good atmosphere and quality of the food objectively speaking is above average, but don't let the nice presentation fool you, it was way too spicy, like is comparable to other places known for spicy food
I’ve been to Xuxu’s a few times now and always enjoy it there. Really cute place with a nice atmosphere and pretty good dumplings, my favourite are the duck dumplings.
Beautiful dumplings! And the staff are supper lovley! It is a small place, so do recommend making a booking
I've been wanting to go here for a long time, but, although it's a lovely environment, and although the cocktails were nice, the main point, dumplings, were disappointing. We had Har Gow. Wonton style dumplings, and pan fried dumplings. The latter were tasty enough, but the shrimp dumplings were frankly disappointing. Also, it would have been nice to have some vinegar as well as soy sauce and chili oil.
If you come here with the mindset of authentic Asian food, you're going to complain and I suggest you head over to a greatly rated dumpling place by Asians for Asians. If you come here for a modern, western twist on Asian cuisine, then you'll probably have no complaints. It is difficult to rate a cultural food place fairly if you walk in with the cultural expectations. One of our guests specifically said that her ancestors are probably rolling in their graves at a "banoffee dumpling" - however, we approached the menu with an open mind. The prawn and ginger dumplings were so fresh and delicious, the duck was exceptional. Both the vegetarian dumpling options had great presentation but needed a little something for a flavour punch. The chocolate steamed buns were definitely a highlight of the night and I would even go as far to say that these beauties are so underrated and steal the banoffee dumpling's thunder. The caramel in the banoffee needs more work and they probably need to be pan fried or even deep fried rather than steamed. A bit of texture contrast would actually set this dish on a higher level. The house made Mango, Cinnamon and Toasted coconut soda was BOMB AF as was the atmosphere and service of the staff. It's definitely a whole experience from the entrance to the setting to the presentation.
Been wanting to try xuxu dumpling because we really love Cafe Hanoi (their sister restaurant). We decided to try some of their food. In term of food, presentation was pretty good. Skin wise, there was a lot to be desired. The filling was disappointing as well. Very dry, not juicy at all. Out of all the food, spinach was our least favorite. Wonton and shao mai were the better ones. It’s not bad, but definitely not great. With so many dumplings restaurants in Auckland to choose from, it’s hard to justify eating dumplings here. You also get better value outside as well. 6 pieces of dumpling for 12$.
Food joy! I used as much chile sauce as I would soy sauce and don't regret it. Original fillings too. Delicious.
Hipster dumplings + bar/pub vibes. If you like dumplings but may not have the appetite for an authentic noisy/bustling yumcha place, this place is for you.
Very cute little place and yummy dumplings, not a fan of the sweet dumplings though, I think they lacked a bit more flavor, some sauce would have been key.
We tried all the dumplings on the menu, the beef ones were our favourite. Cocktails were nice, different, spicy. And to top it all, our waiter had a fantastic sense of humour! Means, we will be back and will definitely recommend Xuxu bar (pronounced Zuzu) further.
We tried Xuxu Dumpling Bar during the Restaurant Month which was a relatively fine deal being able to taste a good range of dishes. It has a trendy ambiance and a cozy feel, almost too cozy as we found the tables were small leaving us not much space to eat after all the foods arrive. Onto the foods - we are Asians, and we live on carb-y things like dumplings, rice, noodles. I applaud the creativity of some of the dumplings and presentation, but it's not a place to indulge in a dumpling experience. There are plenty, plenty of great dumpling specialists in Auckland alone (hint: Dominion Road). While the presentation is great at Xuxu Dumpling Bar, we also found the taste between each variety to be very similar, and they are mostly spicy (our fault for not checking this before deciding to bring young kids there), with the exception of the banoffee dumplings for dessert, which are creative, but not spectacular - a winner for the kids though, they were hungry. All-in-all, it was worth a try but the menu did not win out heart.
I'm always blown away by the food (I recommend ordering more than you think you'll need because you won't regret it) and the cocktails are unique and delicious. The Xuxu Martini has a spicy kick to it!
Very mediocre. Wannabe trendy Asian restaurant that just is not up to its game when it comes to drinks (think over syruped sugar bombs) or food (you can come close yourself using the freezer section of a countdown). Very skippable and much better Asian options in the area (in particular the Vietnamese place across the street) if you’re keen on this general food group.
Loved the dumplings here. The choice was good & you can choose as many plates that suit. Service was prompt & friendly.
Tried this out after seeing all the reviews of this place by friends, colleagues. It did not disappoint not was it extremely spectacular, but I was happy to try it out.
The location is perfect, the service was excellent. I'm giving it 3 stars just for the taste after having tried 5 different sets of dumplings. But if you must go here, I recommend the one with duck.
I usually don’t eat dumplings and I happen to visit this place and absolutely loved it. Highly recommended. It’s not very visible, suggest putting some hoardings outside for more people to visit.
