Xuxu Dumpling Bar / Perch Britomart reviews
38Pleasant little place on the corner of Britomart train station, just wish they had a wider range menu though but it does say dumpling bar i guess
Great place. Lovely food and service but not great for kiddies (unless they are used to spicy food) then it is great for them too
OMG they have GLUTEN FREE pot stickers and they are yum. Great cocktails and very cool bar with greenery.
A little pricy for what you get. It was about 12 dollars for 6 dumplings. Had 3 different kinds including the duck, fish and sio mai and each were good but nothing special. I felt like I didn’t get the value for the cost.
Delicious dumplings! Two vegan options that are both so yummy. My top two the roast duck and the spinach ones
I loved it here! Cosy busy place with friendly waiters. Dumplings and wine were deeeelicious. Very reasonably priced too. Highly recommend!
Great dumplings, cocktails and ambiance. Somehow have only just discovered the bannofi dumplings and have been dreaming about them ever since. Great wine list too. Five stars.
Popped in here for a drink before dinner - they told us they had a special deal of dumplings and a drink. So we ordered this and they were yum - this sealed our fate, we cancelled our booking and then ordered another set of different dumplings each. Then having filled up on delicious, fresh, spicy dumplings - we just ordered more drinks. Sat in the little courtyard out front, was a great evening. Friendly attentive staff and people having a good time.
Really small, but nice place. As the name mentions, it does serve good dumplings and drinks.
Portions wise are small considering the price. But they make up for it in quality. I had the pork and shrimp siao mai, and really enjoyed the texture and bite from the shrimp. Flavor was really good as well.
Would recommend this place for small groups that don't mind paying more for quality and taste. Group size between 2-4, to a maximum of 6 should be perfect.
All in all, it's a nice experience. But I probably won't go back on my own. With friends or colleagues, maybe. But there are other places that are more suitable for group occasions. Xuxu Dumpling Bar seems to be a mix of everything, but not having anything standing out.
Our new favourite Dumpling place! Great service (I think the waitress was called nicole, but not sure), we had pork and shrimp dumplings, fish sambal and coconut, tofu shiitake and chinese chives and banoffee dumplings.each of them amazing! And the banoffee (sweet) ones where a real surprise! We had a few cocktails including xuxu martini, rosemary margarita, harajuku dreaming and José flip, great combinations, my favourite was the xuxu martini, seconded by José flip if you can enjoy egg on your cocktails. Thank you guys fot the great experience!
Quite a small menu but it has everything you need at a dumpling bar. The duck + hoisin dumplings are AMAZING. We also tried the fish, sambal and coconut dumplings which were a nice variant to the usual dumpling flavours. We hadn't ordered prawn dumplings but they somehow were included with our order and they just let us have them for free! We tried both the dessert dumplings; chocolate & banoffee. Both so so good but the chocolate dumpling was a definite winner.
The decor and vibe of the restaurant is really good and the staff are amazing. I will definitely be going back.
I really like to go back there again. Nice wine, delicious dumpling selection, unique decor and friendly staff (oh yes, cheap).
Excellent service, really good place for lunch or dinner. Award winning bartender Joe in there, challenge him if you can for some great cocktails
Great atmosphere at this cosy dumpling bar in the middle of Britomart. Being small, it is usally busy but have never had to wait long for a table. Its vibrant and as much as a bar than it is a restaurant, but noise isn't an issue and you can still easily have a conversation.
Not excellent value (ends up being $2/ dumpling) but the dumplings and cocktails are quite good and arrived very quickly.
The place has a lot of potential, its a great location with cool decor and the dumplings were very tasty! However the service really let them down. We were only told items were sold out/ unavailable after trying to order them, the waiter forgot our order, we had dishes missing when our food arrived, only got 5 dumplings in some baskets (when the menu says 6), incorrect items arrived to our table, and we had to fight to get staff attention to order extra dumplings and drinks (and they were visibly annoyed when we did). They were not very busy at the time, with multiple staff standing around the bar. If the service had been better it would have been 5 star worthy!
Service was great, dumplings great. Needs more food options, cocktails specifically overpriced (short whiskey glass $18)
Recommended this place by a friend and it did not disappoint. Cool, cosy, unique, little place with a nice Asian vibe. Interesting selection of dumpling flavours and the three that we did have were really nice.
While this bar is a great idea and has good potential it isn’t quite there. If you come here just looking for food I wouldn’t recommend it. The waiter told us that this is a bar and that they only serve food as they legally have to and was hesitating to even serve us dumplings which is what we came in for. The dumplings were nice and the cocktails looked good but left disappointed in the experience and service.
Really wanted to try this dumpling place but the dumplings I had were overcooked and not only that but they served three dumplings instead of the six that they were supposed to according to the menu. Why would they do that? Only got an apology but I asked for a refund instead. (The old joke from Annie Hall popped into my mind, where two old ladies are talking in a restaurant. One goes "the food is awful here! " the other replies "and such small portions! "
Also, the waiter was a duck. Plus I ordered a dish they forgot to bring out. Good luck keeping this place open
