Izakai Bar & Eatery reviews
67Me and my husband have had the "let's eat" meals 4 times now, we absolutely love it! Each time we get to try amazing new dishes, our fav is the paua and prawn dumplings with the cauliflower sauce, the wasabi kingfish and the ice cream mochi dessert. Mouthwatering and amazing service every time. Highly recommend and our number 1 treat to ourselves.
Helpful and friendly staff. Great drink selection and food out of this world
Highly recommend.
Izakai is definitely an atmosphere I appreciate being in, having being a local Maori myself and also previously studying Japanese at Tauranga Girl's College.
The kai was a nice surprise, but I really enjoyed the experience of eating it more. The welcoming and service was good too.
It was the the finer details for me
Being a bit pricey, would be the only reason why I didnt rate IZAKAI a 5.
Criminal ripoffs 25 dollars for a glass of wine, 600 dollars for 8 of us not kid friendly. Food cold, food average
Beautiful flavours through the whole meal. Favorite by far the Ika Mata, music in your mouth Recommend this place to blow your tatse buds. Our hostess Beth was outstanding, super friendly and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Those mochi balls, so perfect to end the meal, beautiful beautiful flavours.
Totally awesome!
Great place, staff and food.especially the food! Cocktails were very good too.
With so many places around serving the usual stuff, Izakai really stands out with dishes that are unique + freak'n awesome
FABULOUS AGAIN! This is our 2nd time coming here and could not fault anything, meal was amazing and so was service both times. DEFINITELY will be going back.
Superb delicious birthday lunch. Excellent service, great place for the family to enjoy a birthday lunch. Thank you Maia and all the staff
This has the most kai whakamiharo (amazing food) and service i have received in years. I recommend to go and check these amazing people out.
Your kete matauranga is out of this world.
Ka pai whakamiharo o mahi katoa.
Some great dishes, loved the Paua/prawn fritters, the cabbage fritters and the cauliflower. Some dishes took a lot longer to come than others, some of us were nearly finished when last people got their meals, and need to track if all drinks arrive, but overall we'd be happy to return
Very flavoursome food Asian and Maori Infusion the combination of the both worked very well together very impressed with the welcome as our hostess Beth greeted us with a Kia Ora which felt very warming ️ kei te tino Ataahua, the Ika Mata and the Mochi were absolutely extraordinary the taste left my tastebuds mesmorised! Kei te tino pai! Well done! You definitely need to come here to eat!
Kai was amazing but service wasn't the greatest. We were the only 2 people in the restaurant and it took far too long after sitting down for them to take our orders.
Highly recommend—exquisite food, drinks and overall dining experience. Best Japanese fusion in NZ!
Had the most lovely dining experience here. Staff were very welcoming and super friendly. Food was delicious! We had high expectations and we were not disappointed. We will be back for sure!
The staff are absolutely lovely. The atmosphere is also very nice. We tried the best of Izakai” degustation the firs time, and for the most part was pretty impressed. The drinks to match were also fitting. However the second and third visit was vastly different in food quality. They sent out a cold smoked king fish sashimi where the majority of the cut was blood line from the fish not being bled out (tastes disgusting and metallic). An overly salty Kahawai pâté. And some other bland and overpriced dishes that were not up to scratch. The waitress was apologetic and kind, but obviously not her fault. We were not offered any compensation for these items we did not eat
If you are going to provide fine dining portions at a fine dining price, your food needs to be on point in my opinion. The idea and the presentation of the business is very much so. But don’t serve sub par food (especially seafood) and tarnish both the Japanese and Maori cuisine please
We had a great meal here over the weekend. Tasty food, a wee bit on the rich side but still nice, good drink selection too. Option to sit in the courtyard which is more casual than the restaurant, inside the restaurant has a nice vibe.
Superb food, excellent service, reasonably priced, cosy ambience and a wonderful experience trying the different dishes.we weren't disappointed and will not hesitate in going back there for more!
Very poor, can not find anything good to say, waited 60 mins for food, quality, presentation and timelyness of delivery to table was totally inept, 2 of our group of diners had to wait 15 min after the first 2 before getting meal's, can find no reason to favorably reccomend this establishment, even if the food was free it would still be very disappointing.

Wow, great place. Wonderful place to share plates, reasonably priced food and drink. Highly recommended.
I was so excited to taste the Maori Japanese fusion food.definitely taste the Japanese but sadly the Maori was missing.pork bone broth was all broth and no pork bone taste. The apple mocktail tasted like flowers. Staff also tried to charge us for drinks we never had
