Friends Indian Restaurant

I ordered food from this restaurant and it was disgusting. When it arrived it looked like slop, had hardly any chicken in the butter chicken, was just slop. And it tasted absolutely disgusting. Would not recommend! Health and safety standards needs to be raised in Gisborne!

Great value, friendly service.
They even gave us some naan bread.

We are from ChCh, and had this wonderful meal while in Gisborne. Sad they are not local to us. The onion bargees were unusual but fantastic. All food was excellent.

Found this by accident when going to get sushi. Glad we did. Absolutely delicious curry’s, at an excellent price. Lunch price is $13.90 for curry, rice, naan and a drink. No more sushi for me, this place is my new fav eat out!

Friends is our favourite Indian takeaway. Food is always good, prices are reasonable, and deliveries always on time with a super friendly delivery driver. Can't believe more people don't buy from Friends!

Friends is our go-to for Indian takeaway in Gisborne. The food is excellent and the service is always great. Deliveries are always so fast and with a smile. Our last order an item wasn’t delivered, we hadn’t even noticed nor were we bothered when we found out, but they came back with the item and some extras ️

The food was tasty. Although we were only 2 of us in the restaurant I had to leave my chair and ask for service.

Ordered butter chicken deal for lunch. Sauce very runny, little bits of diced chicken but the real disappointment was paying extra for cheese naan and got naan with cheese sprinkled on top! I was expecting the cheese to be in the naan not on top! Very tasteless overall

Very authentic and very delicious if you looking for a place to sit and enjoy Indian cuisine, i highly recommend this place.

Ordered Lamb Biryani. Biryani is supposed to be given in 750ml box but they gave me on 500ml standard rice box. No raita. Not good taste. Told to make hot but wasn’t at all. Waste of money and didn’t even help my hunger.

I see a lot of "Friendly Service" reviews. This contrasts my experience quite strongly! I went in early one evening, 5.30ish, to dine in on my own, wasn't greeted with a smile and barely a polite "welcome". The constant impression was that I wasn't wanted. Service was rushed, and when I asked for a "whiskey" the owner (?) /waiter couldn't understand, so I repeated it 3 times; he asked how I would like it, I said "straight", this seemed a shock, and then it was delivered in a cordial drinking glass - not a tumbler in sight. Disappointing.

The entrée came quickly, so I had not much time to settle and relax into my whiskey from the cordial glass, or a spot of writing; and within a minute, before I was a quarter of the way through my entrée, the main course arrived. I wasn't particularly happy about this, as I didn't get the chance to finish the entrée and reflect on it as its own meal without my curry going cold, but the host didn't seem to care. He did smile though after placing the meal, and he also smiled after I paid the bill, so there's that I guess.

The meals weren't the best Indian I've tasted, neither the worse - probably better than Tandoori down the opposite end of Gladstone Road who put way too much spice into a medium curry which ends up burning your mouth out and leaving you unable to taste the meal. Friends medium spice has a strong bite, but the curry flavours can still be tasted. Good meals!

I've been here twice over about 2-3 years, and this experience has been the same. It's very odd that other visitors get the "friend" treatment, and I just "another customer" treatment. Not at any time during my most recent visitor did I see a smile from any of the other staff - it just looked like no one was enjoying themselves, and I mean no disrespect if everyone was having a bad day, but friendly customer service is vital. I want to be greeted and welcomed, not necessarily with a smile, just with a feeling of wanting to be served, whether I'm alone or with company.

Great customer service, good prices and the food is delicious. A+ you guys are my go to takeaways.

We got dinner delivered tonight we Got amazing service lovely people and beautiful meal at a good price glad we chose friends will now be regulars cheers guys keep up the good work.

My least favourite of the three Indian restaurants in town. If I’d never had chicken tikka masala before, it might have been alright, just not what I was expecting. And the palak paneer was fluorescent with green food colouring. We will not be returning.

SCAM WARNING: They deceivingly upped the price on the eftpos (knowing most don't check), then when questioned about it he tried to say his menu prices were wrong. Had to stand there and argue to get the difference in change back. AVERAGE curry. There are other options in Gisborne, go elsewhere or check the eftpos terminal window! Rip offs

Be aware. They overcharged us and when asked for details of the bill they were quite rude. Not that we demand high level of service but this was very dissapointing. All we have asked is explanation and we ended up being verbally attacked even in front of kids. The food was average, as was the service before the "incident".

Very great place love the butter chicken and just wonderful. Service is great their highly recommended.
