Starlake Thai Restaurant & takeaway

Recently purchased pad ped with crispy pork and rice. Pork pieces were too large and scarce, dry and unpalatable. Vegetables again too large and floating in liquid. A huge disappointment, tasted disgusting - never again!

We got a takeaway which consisted of three mains and two roti breads and two satay sauces. All three mains were tasteless, probably the worst Thai we’ve had at any Thai restaurant in the bay! We were short changed of one satay sauce and all for the extortionist price of $90. The roti bread was nice

Well.we walked in at 530pm table 16 on the 30/06/23, the young man with the black shirt that served us desided to cough up and spit not once but twice in the sink behind the bar.wasn't pleasant.

Delicious, but extremely expensive for what it is… don’t get much change out of $90 for a family of 4

The best in Bay. Atmosphere perfect. Food delicious. Service impeccable. Thankyou for a tranquil restaurant.

Payed $95 for takeaways tonight, it was so bad I feel sick and most of it went in the bin. Don’t waste your money.

Very busy, luckily we were able to be seated. Lovely food, service and food recommendation was on point. Thoroughly enjoyed by us girls.

I have tried both the takeout and dine-in menu here. This is consistently seriously delicious food! Really well prepared, totally yummy, nice friendly helpful staff even when its busy. Highly recommend

Usually great takeaways but NOT THIS TIME. Over cooked, over sauced, overly sweet and under spiced!

What a MAJOR disappointment!
Don't bother going here unless you're happy with small overcooked food and a 'cook' who doesn't care about the quality of the food.
Staff call him a chief, which is so unfair to the trade!
I'll try adding photos of the bottle cap size scallop, and the hard and dry pork.

Just wanted to warn unsuspecting diners of this disappointment right now.

I ordered a rib rack and got 3 chops.
The meal was ok, but not what I expected. However the restraunt is beautifully presented, clean and service out standing. Nice and quiet with lovely Thai background music

The best ever Thai we have had. Beautiful fresh vegetables and great flavour. Nice hospitality.
Thankyou we will be regulars it was 10/10 from us.

I really enjoyed the food here. It was tasty and all came out to our table at the same time to share.

Absolutely delicious, the best sweet and sour in Hawke's Bay. If you are hankering for tasty food, this is for you!

Ordered the ginger chicken stir fry tonight and I can't eat it. Chicken is transparent, like jelly not sure what they have used. Tried to stir fry again once home thinking it was undercooked, without any real improvement.

Bland overcooked food from the takeaways. The satay was tasteless and the veggies had no sauce on them, just watery stuff.
The nasi goreng tasted nothing like nasi goreng. The chicken in the tom yum was hard and dry. Chicken wings were overcooked.
I emailed a complaint with photos as we live 1hr return drive away. I got dismissive and increasingly rude responses. We will never go back. We have been customers for years. Friends and family Ive spoken to about this have had similar experiences with the declining quality of the takeaway. Our $100 takeaways basically went in the bin!

Waited for 45mins for a soup and finally they gave back the money, bad and worse experience. Take away service is worst

Absolutely awful food this evening, sadly. Dry and over-sauced (too sugary) lemon chicken; rubbery and tasteless Starlake egg fu yung. And we had to wait a while as 'later orders' were picked up before ours. Disappointing, as we usually enjoy our food from Starlake.

Nice takeaway from here. Was the only place in Havelock North open on a public holiday. Friendly service and great food. Only fault was a 40 minute wait on takeaway as so busy. But they advised of this so no worries!
