Tarawera Cafe reviews
59Planned our trip around coffee here on the way to Napier. Advertised as open Sunday.but it was closed
Has to be the best Chicken and Leek pie I've ever eaten. Highly recommend.
Great service from friendly staff.
Will stop there everytime I pass.
Cheers guys.
Amazing retreat. Food to die for, best hosts ever ang, Raj and Bianca. If you want an amazing place to stay eat and relax this is the place to go
Prices a little on the high side. Very small selection of morning and afternoon tea type food. Quite loud music playing so conversation was a bit of a challenge. The cafe is set in a very picturesque area.
Looks to be all closed up, which is a shame as it's a great location and I imagine good for business in the summer months.
Cafe closed on a Thursday lunch time. Door to the ladies toilet in the car park vandalised so no way to keep the door closed.
Closed on late Thurs afternoon, but open on Sat morning when we came back. Good food, some of it probably made locally and others bought in. Good coffee, but coffee is never helped by being made on a takeaway cup. Time I started keeping a real coffee mug in the car, given the number of cafes that only offer takeaway cups.
A bit tired now. They are trying to sell & clearly are over it. Little available to eat, lights off, dark & unwelcoming.
Asked for a coffee, wasted they only has instant coffee.no thanks.might aswell shut down until its sold
The staff are friendly, the toilets are clean, and the refreshments are OK. This was a good stop half way between Taupo and Napier.
P. S.
Don't forget to stop at the lookout for Waipunga Falls - back towards Taupo. The cafe has a big aerial photo on the wall to show you. At the lookout you don't even need to leave the car to see the main falls.
P. P. S.
Reviwers, please don't complain if you have to get emergency fuel: you had to ignore the warning signs about no fuel stops for 160km.
It's pretty and a great location for a rest. The staff are friendly. But the food is over priced and substandard.
Honestly hands down the worst coffee I have ever had. Both mine and my partners were so bad we couldn't drink them. My partner also got a pie and that to was really bad.
We stop here every year on our way down to and out of Napier. The owners and staff are awesome, friendly and so great to talk with. The food is delicious and coffee's.
Food and coffee was decent. Toilets didn’t have any soap. A bit expensive and there was a card surcharges but they seem to have a monopoly on places to stop on highway 5
Lovely hot coffee and tea served by two friendly ladies! Just the place to stop on the Taupo-Napier highway!
It's okay. There are displays inside that show the history of the Napier Taupo road. Like a mini museum. Staff are friendly and the food and coffee is okay. Also if you patronize the cafe you can use their clean toilets.
A sign for emergency fuel in SH5 led me to one of the least customer friendly establishments I’ve been to across NZ, Southern Africa, Malaysia, Singapore or the USA!
To add to the unabashed rudeness, they charged me $70 for what was supposed to be 10 litres of diesel out of a jerry can that was, in my opinion, purposely broken at the funnel. I’m also not comfortable that the jerry can actually contained 10 litres of fuel, given the distance I managed to get out of the tank.
For reference, the current average price of diesel is $1.749… that’s a 300% markup!
Stopped in here for some emergency fuel on tour with my old man who had ridden all the way from Christchurch, both of us were horrified when we found out 10 litres was going to cost us $70. The old lady behind the counter was very unfriendly she made rude remarks to me about not fueling up before we left Napier. Overall very disappointed with the service most certainly won’t be back again.
Friendly staff, excellent toilet facilities, spacious for a stretch after a few hours drive. Most importantly, the coffee is good, and the ice cream makes kids happy.
