Ujazi / Café Tennyson + Bistro reviews
72Worst service I’ve encountered for a long time. They refused to adjust their menu to my dietary requirements and demanded I order a meal that I told them clearly I can’t eat. All I wanted wass on the menu as extras. Said it’s “not to confuse the chef”. They are busy being in a popular spot in the city so they believe they can be arrogant and nasty towards visitors. Try and avoid this place.
Extremely expensive. Average food quality. Portion size is ridiculous.
We have the best cafes in Napier. This cafe is just not worth it.
Ordered Egg Benedict with salmon and it’s like the tiniest on planet. Salmon tastes exactly those from supermarkets. Very expensive and average food quality. Ripped off!
Disappointing - food maybe good, but spent a lot of money on a quiet night and one staff member was rude and argued as wanted to charge $20 for a plate to serve our own birthday cake ruined our granddaughters birthday meal with family.
Bad Form
Small portions, lost its quality, creamy mushrooms are watery. Improvement is sharply needed.
Was told I must stop in on my way through town. Figured ordering a croque monsieur from the cabinet would be quick and easy. Told it would take about 10 mins. Waited close to 25 mins for it. Not sure why. Can't say it was worth the wait. Very disappointing. Soggy. Clearly hadn't been near an oven, as the bottom slice of bread was damp and warm. Obviously just been microwaved and thrown under the salamander (grill). The server however was incredibly friendly, hence the 2 stars for her.
Ordered an iced coffee for around $6 and received a pretty pathetic drink. Was very small and tasted like something I could make at home with cheap instant coffee. Would not recommend.
Service was good and quick, but the food is average and expensive. Expensive for what you get at least.
We stopped here for a late lunch and order a toasted sandwich and a side of fries. Service was good and so we're the fries, but unfortunately the "toasted" sandwich was a massive disappointment. The focaccia bread was really crumbly and hadn't been toasted. It was more like eating a stale sandwich with a bit of melted cheese. Was not worth my calories. Also the fries didn't come with any tomato sauce, only a tomato relish which wasn't a decent substitute. When I asked for some tomato sauce I was told they don't keep any. I was shocked as that is a kiwi classic!
During Art Deco ordered 2 take out teas and a ready made fruit salad with yoghurt. Fruit salad came smartly, no yoghurt, had to request a wooden fork to eat it. While I waited for the teas I finished my fruit salad. Continued to wait and finally had to ask about the teas. I was told they weren't making teas. Finally I was told that they were boiling the water and it would take 2 minutes. I asked for a refund.
The food is alright. Price is expensive compared to the food. Service is alright but the coffee was pleasantly surprising.
Very nice place and good decor inside. I sat outside. Service was nice with attentive attendants.
Had their big breakfast as they were kind enough to remove the bacon and replace with sausage. 24$ approx. Similiar to prices everywhere but quantity was less. Menu mentioned portabellow mushroom but normal Mushrooms came out.
I also ordered a salmon side 7$ (smoked). Small for the quantity. This tasted just like supermarkets one do.
And large FW 5.50$. Ok (have had better coffees)
I also took a lemon cake 6$ and an Madeline 1.50$
Overall definitely worth a visit.
Hmmm eggs bene, sparse bacon.toast was overcooked, hashbrown very tasty, but cold, abit of a disappointment. Coffee lovely
Huge variety on menu. Black pudding, mushrooms, poached eggs and hash brown was delicious. Interesting murals
Helpful, friendly staff. You can have your own concoction for a juice drink. Had a banana berry muffin, freshly made, yum. Friend had ginger crunch, too crumbly.
Not sure why, tho my expectations were not high. Had scrambled egg and organic chicken sausage. Both excellent. Coffee good and service quick. Recommend!
Good friendly service & nice fresh oj. Yummy granola too but too much for me. I couldn't finish it all.
Amazing place, would definitely say 'must visit'. I was told to go here to get the best coffee of Napier, and I was not disappointed one bit. Loved the decor with beautiful paintings (up for sale if you are interested). Would definitely revisit to try more of their menus.
Let’s start with a coffee that was super delicious. Thanks to the barista. I had the eggs Benedict with spinach and couldn’t choose between toast or hash brown so they put one on each very delicious good service, friendly staff, clean and tidy surroundings. Thanks team definitely recommend.
