Best hostel on Stewart Island. Corinna was a lovely host and the place was in good repair. Beautiful dining and sitting area, perfect place to break out a book or watch a movie at night. Easy access to the center of town for groceries or exploring the area.

Wifi was surprisingly fast for an island, but could use another router to support more connections. Water pressure in the showers was painfully low, but it was hot. Would definitely stay here again, if returning to the island.

This little place is really inviting, i felt like I was at home and could relax nicely, the WiFi was really good and the place was decently clean. The room I was in was also dark enough at night that I got a very good sleep. The lady who worked their wad really friendly and nice also recommending me things to do whilst there. I had a great time and really wished I could of stayed longer. The only small thing I would say is that there doesn't seem to be enough toilets and showers for everyone because many people were waiting and i also had to wait which was a little annoying. But I would stay here again for sure.

I loved my time at this cosy little hostel on Stewart island. It was pretty rainy during my stay so I ended ip spending quite a lot of time indoors and it truly felt like a home away from home. Good wifi, ok showers, comfy beds and and amazing manager running it this season. I also loved that there is a garden we could pick some greens from and the fireplace on a cold day. The manager was also super helpful with tips for day-activities and wildlife spotting. Absolutely loved my stay and wished I was back there as soon as I had checked into my new hostel in Invercargill. I’ll come back in the future.

Best place to stay on Stewart Island! Good kitchen facilities and cozy sitting area for relaxing and socialising. Central location, easy to walk to everywhere.

Such a cosy, clean and comfortable place. The lovely Canadian hostess made us feel right at home.

Probably the nicest Backpackers I've stayed in so far! Comfy beds, nice and very well equipped kitchen, it generally feels very homey:)

Friendly place but the building is old and in places smells mouldy, mildewy, musty.
The Wi-Fi is good, they'll store your bag if you're catching a late ferry, and they'll offer advice and how to take in the magic of Stewart Island.

Nice atmosphere, perfect location, nice and helpful staff, okay kitchen, a little cold at night, but a very good choice in this price range.

Lovely vibe, large open spaces for meeting new people. Beds comfortable. Toilets and showers clean.

I really liked staying here. It's very cozy and clean. The atmosphere was very laid back and everyone I met was interesting and respectful. Only complaint is the shower temperatures fluctuate alot. Not a huge problem considering how awesome this place is. Good WiFi and luggage storage.

Friendly and welcoming host! Always ready to help, putting in a lot of effort and gave us a lot of tips for stuff to do in the small town of Oban.

Fast and reliable wifi, clean shower and kitchen. Nice patio/lounge with roof. The rooms are clean but a little small. No problem!

Only downside is the cold/humidity.
Energy costs on the island are a lot higher than on land so it is understandable that there are no heaters in the rooms. But the humidity and the cold temperatures at night made it a very chilly sleep.

The host probably forgot to light the wood fire oven or should think of dehumidifier granules so the cold is endurable with the blankets.

Friendly manager, good facilities and dorm rooms. Double rooms are a little small but that is the only minor compliant.

We almost bought this cool old place in 1982, bought Dr Hunter's Cottage instead as it had a great view of Golden Bay.

Super cute small backpackers. Highly recommend staying here if you're visiting Stewart Island - it's reasonably priced compared to other options on the island, has good facilities and lots of info, comfy common space with a central fire/heater. We stayed in a double room upstairs - it's basic but very cute and cosy. Loved it.

Small with only a few rooms. That makes it quiet and relaxed, nice backyard. Tidy, clean and nice staff. Much nicer than the other big backpacker on the Island.
