Kelvin Hotel reviews
67 Rooms are clean but no air conditioning, which means you have to have windows open at night and then incomes the city noises.
We ate in the restaurant the three nights we were there. The service in there was excellent. Awesome staff. And AMAZING food and cocktails.
The big disappointment for us was the lift. We had the fright of our lives where the lift dropped suddenly when going up to the 4th floor. We let the manager know and he was super blaise about it. Didn't call a technician, or put an out of order sign on it.
I never used the lift again the whole stay, but a friend staying in another room did and he ended up being stuck in there for an hour. Finally an out of order sign was put on and a technician called. This could of been avoided if tech was called when we reported the issue.
Only inner city hotel, hotel huge, casino included, staff ok, but breakfast staff very slow, there must have been a Chinese tour group in front of us, breakfast room looked as if a bomb had hit, the employees stood in the corner and giggled rather than to clean up, there wasn't a single table that you could sit down at that was clean or cleared, you had to clear it away yourself, at some point you tried to work, the buffet was empty, impudence!
An OK Hotel, nothing fancy or special. I could hear pretty much everything from the surrounding rooms and corridor so if you are a light sleeper not recommended.
Won't stay here again.
Dated but comfortable hotel. Bathrooms are in some need of deep cleaning and the toilet was in a suffocatingly narrow room, otherwise the Kelvin was a pleasant place to spend a night whilst transiting through Invercargill
I went to the Editor’s Cut restaurant today (Sun, 16 July’23) along with 3 friends. We all ordered our meals at the same time, m, however 2 meals came reasonably quickly, the other 2 coming 15 - 20 minutes later. The first 2 diners had almost finished their meal by the time the last 2 received theirs. When my meal finally arrived (the last meal to be delivered), it was not what I ordered. I ‘politely’ sent the meal back, but as it turned out, I should have kept it! The meal was disappointing to say the least! Both the fish and the chips were soggy, and I couldn’t really identify the fish from the batter. After 2 mouthfuls, I couldn’t eat any more. It seems that the oil it was cooked in was clearly not hot enough. It was VERY greasy.
My friend, who also had the battered fish and chips, could only eat a little of the meal. Her meal was also ‘soggy’. Within an hour after the meal she became unwell, and several hours later is no better. We suspect food poisoning.
Sadly, we will not be going back to the restaurant as not only was the meal disappointing, I felt the kitchen service was not up to standard either.
The ‘front of house’ staff were very pleasant however, but despite the fact that there were only ~6 other diners in the restaurant at the time, the disparity in the timing of delivering our meals was unacceptable - and they delivered the wrong meal to me.
I actually liked it. Id say itd be a great stay over winter as its central to everything, airport, malls etc. I only say winter as room doesnt hav AC (jst a heater) so summmer youll be burning as the window doesnt even fully open. Otherwise, great room n location n awesome food n bar at level one.
Rooms need fans and door fixtures to keep them open if u wish. People from events need to be told not to go by the rooms. Food and staff great.
Large room, and great location.had a nice meal on level one restaurant. Rooms were clean and some nice small extras (chilled water and ice in corridor) laundry etc. Good value.
It was ok the restaurant wasn’t open due to a public holiday but there were guests so an effort to open would have been good.
Ended up in public bar being harassed by local drunks fun fun! Staff did not seem to mind they kept harassing us when they could see we were clearly uncomfortable
Rooms were nice - parking available
Prices high for a public bar and off course surcharge for guests!
Value for money, big room with a big bed, friendly staff. I didn't use F&B services.
Comfy bed, clean room, good smart TV.
Even though most nights are probably pretty cool here, a fan wouldn’t go astray, pretty warm.
Also slamming doors, I though there was pile driving happening nearby, very loud!
Very nice place with lots of interesting old photos around
only stayed 1 night but it was great!
Great hotel in a good location. The Sports bar is also nice and serve a small selection of meals too.
Check in was fantastic.
The room was clean, bed comfortable and wifi was good. However we found the room on the 4th floor warm and stuffy, we stayed on a very mild night in January and it was uncomfortable. There is no AC and the window only opened the max for child safety. Maybe a fan in the wardrobe to use would be a good idea. On a warm night I can imagine it would be unbearable.
The food quality has slipped drastically since Covid has produced all kinds of Chef staff problems.
Though we didn't book in here, we were told that the cocktails served here was on point. So we took a short 5min walk from our accommodation at Langlands.
The cocktail lounge and bar area has a great atmosphere and very comfy seating. Music was a mix of 80s 90s. Views out the windows of the streets below and some light renovations made it very relaxing. There is an area for Karaoke nights!
The lady serving us provided some local knowledge about Invercargill. Drinks are priced fairly and tasted really good! When we return to Invercargill this is a place we will definitely visit again on a return trip from Australia.
Great service and drinks!
Big room with great views, a tad dated but clean, tidy and with all essentials. Heating but no aircon, parking organised with garage across the road and staff were polite and helpful.
The maintenance needed some attention, but the place was clean and staff obliging. Thank you
Room where nice. Found a broken hairdryer but still can use it and the toiletys had spilt at the top so I throw them away. Great water pressures in the shower. Bed was comfortable the view was great. Service at reception great. Hotel meals yummy. Located in Central invercagill. Easy walking distance to many shops and cafas. Would go again.
Had a meal at editors cut last week, Steak cooked exactly to my liking, Tasty mushroom sauce and a fresh green salad. I applaud good service and the barmaid gained herself a tip so credit to the management Highly recommend if you want something affordable
No parks outside of the front desk, park in a loading zone, or on a yellow line. Asked where parks were, told they were round the corner. Asked for the address and was told it was Hallensteins. Didn't know where that was either so drove around until I found it. Wont go back.
