Lignite Pit Cafe reviews
24We had our wedding ceremony here. Marie and Barry were amazing and so helpful. It's a beautiful venue. We have also been a couple of times for lunch on Sunday and had a walk around the gardens.
Solid wee Cafe 25 mins from Invercargill. Simple food, good service, good walk around the grounds. Recommend!
Cafe was closed but had a lovely chat with the owner. The gardens are such a pleasure to wander around. Take lots of time to just soak in what has been created here.
Parked the camper overnight. Had power and everything we needed. Was a dark rainy and windy night.could only hear the wind. Very peaceful
Fantastic food and the best hot chocolate I've ever had. Staff were really lovely and didn't charge us to look around the gardens because it was raining. Lots of places to explore around the lake and some beautiful plants and trees.
Nice meals. Camping available. Visit the gardens. Very beautiful. Made out of an old lignite pit coal mine.
Great place to go for lunch Nice food good coffee Lovely area for a walk Motor home parking available
Camped here overnight. Very friendly owner. Self contained only, as no showers. Powered site $15 pp. The gardens a beautiful and we'll worth a visit. Toilets, laundry and kitchen are basic but serviceable. There are only two powered spots here and it is quite tight to get two campervans in, but wasn't a problem for us.
I camped here and it is just awesome. I have never paid 5$ for so many things: little kitchen without a cooking possiblity, but with a fridge, microwave, two sinks and a Hot water boiler, laundry for extra two dollars, clean toilet and shelters. It's a small and lovely place to stay. I recommand it to everyone, who is looking for a cheap place to stay around Invercargill.
Such a great Southland Secret! If you haven't been here, take the family out for a beautiful experience. A menu to suit all tastes, reasonable prices and lots to experience.
Very friendly and helpful people. Cafe team made a special effort to cater for a member of our group who required gluten free food. Sensibly priced meals and snacks.
The Gardens are Incredible! Since my husband brought me here on our return from a decade overseas, it's become my favourite spot in Southland. Gorgeous Lavender & Iris displays. I asked my husband if we could get married again, just so we could have an event here! I look forward to holding Yoga retreats here, Barry & Maree are amazing and I love what they have done with this place. My husband is pretty fussy (ex-chef) and I like a good coffee, all our needs are met here, including Wifi and Phoenix drinks!
Great spot to camp for a extremely good price! Clean Toilet and kitchen area, working wifi and very very nice owners!
Thank you so much again for helping me with my car!
I would definitely come back!
A colonial looking aged cafe located in Fortrose road. Looks like it’s closed in the evening. Thought rundown place but according to the reviews hope it’s still operating since no any cafe with 10-20 kms
Ample parking space available. Surrounded by green fields. Awesome view.
Food was amazing. Kitchen was in plain view and could've been cleaner but absolutely stoked with the grounds and cafe
We passed through her in April 2018. We stopped off for a coffee on the way to Invercargill. The gardens looked fantastic. The café /shop had unusual items to purchase and wool. We might have camped for the night but thought there were no facilities available. Looking at the reviews I think we must have been mistaken. So I am only reviewing for the café.
Coffee was good, though on the slow side to arrive.
The homemade chocolate fudge was delicious and the new owners went out of there way to be accommodating.
Lovely lunch but a little spoiled by the stale smell inside. Not as well maintained as on our last visit a few years ago. Would love to see this beautiful venue brought back to its former glory.
Though the people are friendly and make a decent coffee, the place is untidy and needs a clean and sort out inside cafe. The shop has old fashioned stock, too much knitting wool. Lovely to walk around though.
Staff made our family outing such a great experience. So friendly.food served hot n tasty. Excellent coffee
