Redcliff Cafe reviews
81One of the best steaks in NZ! The doneness was spot on and the blue cod… my goodness, excellent. The vegetation frittata was amazing too. Chloe is fantastic.
I haven't eaten here, only gone for some bands.
Great venue, though. Highly recommended
Nice street restaurant.
Simple and quiet. It can make people forget the mediocrity and disturbance in real life.
Worth over a 4.6 star rating! Have eaten in chef hat/michalin star restaurants and that is the quality of the food we had tonight. Highly recommend if you are in the area, definitely worth the price!
Lovely place tucked in Te Anu. Food was fantastic (choices such as hare and vennison) and the steak was cooked to perfection. Service was attentive and nice. Good beers on tap too!
The food presentation was lovely and both meals were delicious! We got the ceviche, potato soup and pork belly. Service was fantastic. Great spot with cozy atmosphere, historic decor and a bit of LOTR history!
Amazing food, great atmosphere, and really friendly service. This is certainly the best restaurant in town and perhaps the entire region. It's quaint and has a wood stove to warm the bar area, which was lovely. They also had live music when we were there and the musician was fantastic.
Opens @ 4pm according to the sign.
Just go. Food amazing, staff amazing. Book ahead, you can't miss the best restaurant in Te Anau.
Well done to them for such a great restaurant.
Hands down the best dinner my husband and I ate while in New Zealand.
He ordered the steak and I ordered the lamb. Both were exceptional. Cooked to perfection and full of flavor. Really cozy setting too.
Make sure you make a reservation or come early (~5-5: 30 pm like we did)! Everyone seems to know that this is the best place in town. Will definitely be back when we visit the area in the future.
This was a great place for a meal. I loved all the nods to history throughout the building including an old foot driven singer sewing machine. Food, service and atmosphere all 5/5 for me.
I have dined out a lot but this experience was right up there with the best. We were a 4pax and all had different dishes it was surperb.
You make a reservation, then have to confirm that reservation, you drive 30 minutes to get there for them to tell you they aren’t serving food anymore. How about a courtesy phone call or text?
Best ambience in town, with a beautiful backyard, friendly staff, and the best selection of beer (IPA) we’ve found in New Zealand but the food (venison and veggie main) is ho-hum. Would go back for drinks but not dinner.
The food took ages coming out. Our mains took an hour before being served. The lamb was only so-so, the beef was the best meal while don’t even bother with the venison. For some reason the vegetables were overly salted while the venison was lacklustre. Shame. Promisingly plated but did not deliver
Holy cow (pun intended) best beef I’ve ever had. (to be fair I’m American, so maybe it’s always like this in NZ?) but my husband had the lamb and loved that too. Delicious house salad as a starter, and yummy desserts. Excellent meal for a special occasion!
Best dining experience of our 25day NZ holiday! We'd actually heard about the multi ward winning Red Cliff Cafe (Restaurant) back in Australia before our NZ holiday and the incredible Chilean chefs (Javier and?) - and it fitted perfectly in with our NZ/SouthIsland itinerary. By chance we were arriving in Te Anau on their first day of reopening after the winter break. We made a booking about 4 weeks prior to guarantee a table. Look - I have never been 'a fan' nor liked gamey Venison in the past - but being prime deer country I decided to order the Fjordland Wild Venison anyway. WOW! My opinion of venison changed instantly on my first bite of Javier's amazing fare - incredible! My 18yr old ordered the Venison Carpaccio - and she too was blown away by the favour. My 'foodie' wife had the Pork Belly and she too was equally impressed. It's a shame their 'famous' Rabbit Backstraps are no longer on the menu as we'd heard rave reviews from so many locals about that dish. Service was friendly but a little slow due to staff shortages (that's nationwide) but a lovely place that we would highly recommend and add to your dining itinerary. We just can't wait to return one day soon.
Very bad restaurant and overall experience. The food looks good but taste is terrible (as an example very bad beef quality and extra salty salad as side dish). The portion of lamb was unbelievably small. We had to wait for 1 hour for the main dish and had extra charges on the bill for items we did not order.
Delightful small-town cafe with food quality that would be a winner in any big city! Easily the best restaurant in Te Anau. We dined here twice and loved everything we ate. This place knows how to do red meat; both the venison and ribeye were delicious and perfectly cooked. Our second visit, our waitress offered us a local seasonal dish involving a tiny fish I can't remember the name of. We'd probably never have selected it ourselves, but she convinced us to give it a try, and we're glad she did! All in all, a great experience with lots of local flavor and personality. The wine list is also great and reflects the region well. As visitors from the American southeast, it reminded us a lot of home as well-apple and rhubarb pie wasn't something we expected to find here! Definitely stop by!
Great place for a relaxed nice dinner. The food is quite good, good wine selection, good service (although could use a couple more hands around peak times). Recommend visiting.
A pretty restaurant with a beautiful garden and quaint atmosphere. Busy and better to make a reservation ahead. Good food and service. I recommend the beef steak and salmon.
