Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers - BBH reviews
67Had a good time staying here. The kitchen utensils was really complete and you will be able to cook most things.
It's the best here. Right in front of the lake. Tenau was my favorite during my trip to New Zealand. Close to Milford
I recently stayed at Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers and had an absolutely amazing time. The hostel is located in a great spot, right on the shores of Lake Te Anau. The views from the hostel are simply stunning, and it's the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Fiordland National Park.
The hostel itself is very clean and well-maintained. The dorms are spacious and comfortable, and the bathrooms are always clean. There's also a large kitchen where you can cook your own meals, a common area with a TV and games, and a garden where you can relax and enjoy the outdoors.
The staff at Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers are friendly and helpful. They're always happy to give you recommendations for things to do in the area, and they're always willing to help out with anything you need.
Overall, I had a fantastic stay at Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers. It's the perfect place to stay if you're looking for a comfortable, affordable, and convenient place to stay in Te Anau. I highly recommend it!
Here are some specific things I loved about Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers:
The location is amazing. The hostel is right on the shores of Lake Te Anau, and the views are simply stunning.
The hostel is clean and well-maintained. The dorms are spacious and comfortable, and the bathrooms are always clean.
The staff are friendly and helpful. They're always happy to give you recommendations for things to do in the area, and they're always willing to help out with anything you need.
The price is very reasonable. Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers is a great option for budget travelers.
If you're looking for a great place to stay in Te Anau, I highly recommend Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers. You won't be disappointed!
You can sit on a cozy couch and enjoy the view of the lake. They renovated the hostel, added a few cabins that are amazing.
The guy at the front desk is always nice and helpful. Ask him for nice hikes in the area.
They have free fresh herbs, off street parking and cool vibe. Stayed here before and would stay again.
And it is really clean.
Photos show a kitchenette, but this kitchenette is shared with a few other rooms.
The room is very basic for >$100, small with no space to put luggage, no hairdryer, no electric blanket and the building is very thin, you can hear everything. The glass window is very thin for its giant size. It looks tired but it didn't have good quality in the first place, it is not draught proof.
The kitchenette has not microwave and no exhaust fan so when other rooms are cooking, you can smell it from your bedroom. The kitchen cabinets are very old, with half done renovation.
This was the only place that we stay that doesn't provide a hairdryer and only 2 pillows instead of 4. The towels are thin and low quality.
The 'mountain view' is in the shared living room, not in the bedrooms.
The good thing about this place is the big shared kitchen and some outdoor kitchen / bbq, but the entire kitchen only has a small microwave.
The shower room is newly renovated.
The parking is ok.
The location is not far from the town centre.
Look, it's a budget option. For its price is exceptional. It's not a romantic getaway kind of place - it's just basic comforts.
Thought this was a spacious and social hostel, walkable to the Kepler Track which I did and enjoyed thoroughly. Great to go in offseason when the track is cheaper as long as weather is good. I met some very interesting people who had done long term tracks across the south island, some for months, and likeminded hikers who were doing all the beautiful hikes around. Everything’s a bit too expensive (except Possum Lodge) including the hostel, but that’s what to expect I guess. Would definitely recommend you go.
Really great experience after a last minute request for a room (trapped by the snow coming back from Milford Sound). Lovely (Swedish) man at front desk who felt like he really cared. Felt well looked after, nice relaxed feel to the place, lots of nice conversations with others.
The reason the website doesn't show outside picture is because the rooms are at a backpackers situated advice the communal kitchen.
Room was reasonable but shower was awful, there was no fridge and the glasses were filthy. With no sign it the front it is very difficult to find. I would not stay here again.
The dorms are clean and spacious. We were 6 in the room and there was enough space for everyone's luggage.
I was in the house in front of the lake that have a terrace. Really beautiful view, great place to have meal or read a book.
The kitchen is really great. Could have more frypan but that's all i have to say. Its spacious, clean and tidy. There is always a corner where you can cook.
Dylan at the front desk is really nice.
One of the best backpackers hostel i had in NZ.
Overall nice hostel, can’t complain. Didn’t try the dorm as was staying with family but the amenities for dorm life were nice.
Nice but very affordable lodging. Looks like most rooms are two bedrooms with a shared bath and kitchenette. Beautiful location on the lake. Friendly staff. Laundry and plenty of clothes line to air dry.
Good things:
Lovely clean room with a kitchen and bathroom which was shared by only one other room.
A great balcony with furniture outside of the room.
A lovely lakefront position near to the town centre.
Great laundry facilities.
Bad things:
Nothing.
Very nice backpackers. I missed one night stay because I booked last minute and arrived late but for my stay there receptionist was helpful with recommendations. The hangout areas are amazing and beautiful view of the lake. Can chill there and watch sunset at the lake
This is a great base for exploring the area. We stayed two nights mainly to go to milford sounds. The whole place is pretty basic but you get everything you need and the kitchen is well equipted.
Called several days in advance and was told to show up day of no problem to stay. Showed up at 9: 30 and no one answered the phones or door. Finally got ahold of them and was told that they don’t take anyone in after 8pm and they wouldn’t let me in even though that’s not what I was told prior. Ridiculous, this left me stranded in te Anau which was not a pleasant experience.
Highly recommended, good facilities and great location - hostel manager will go out of his way to ensure your stay goes smoothly (I broke my phone and he went above and beyond to assist me with a range of annoying questions I had as I could not look them up myself).
Awesome place to stay with super friendly staff! Love the stunning lake front views from the lounges. Excellent value for money - has everything you need considering it’s a backpackers and it’s in a perfect location for exploring! Will be back!
Clean, comfy beds, attached toilet, excellent Wi-Fi, fantastic view to the lake. Only stay that did not provide towels which let it down. Lovely location walking distance to the shops. Friendly staff.
This backpackers is really nice, clean today and fresh and has a lake view, very happy customers
