The Grille Café

Ordered a slice and coffee (wanted a salad but honestly, it looked a little off in the cabinet for $13 or so ish?) so decided to go for the safe option. Oh was I wrong, the slice was dry and tasted like refrigerator. Trust me when I say, if I’m usually unhappy I will speak up but unfortunately in this instance I felt there was hostility or awkwardness behind the counter between staff? And decided it was best to just retreat. The only positive I have was the coffee (that took 13 minutes to arrive) and I wish I had’ve got that in a large! Sadly won’t be going back, the bar was high but now it’s about as low as the ground.

First time we went food and coffee were great. Staff busy but courteous. Second time, lots of cooks in the kitchen but only one waitress and one barista. Long wait for service. No recognition by staff as we're waiting to order. Lots of empty tables that were loaded with used dishes, tables were not cleared and new patrons were piling dirty dishes to one side of the tables. Waitress brings food out and walks past the dishes (piled on about 75% of the tables) doesn't pick up a single plate. Food still pretty good. Third time same thing with dirty uncleared tables, service incredibly slow, a couple waiting behind us left and so did we. This place could be great but the staff clearly have no idea about food service or table hygiene.

Great food. Seafood chowder is to die for. Great service and environment. Special shout out to Shakel. Wonderful spot to stop on the way out of town. We will be back next visit.

We popped in to grab afternoon tea, service was great but the food was below standard, strawberry donuts sound great right.in this case the cream tasted savory being in a cabinet with savory food and the donuts well they were stale like far too old stale, 35 dollars and a snack that was inedible so disappointed! I have never had such a terrible feed from this place

Food was lovely and fresh, eggs bene and lamb hash with a cheeky raspberry brownie and coffee to finish. Eggs were cooked just right, yolk flowing when cut into, the lamb hash was full of flavor and the lamb just fell apart, very tender. The brownie was quite rich and something to be shared between two in my opinion but so yummy. Staff were lovely and helpful and the facility was clean and tidy. Always a great place to visit.

Great food but too slow service.one meal arrived 15mins after next meal and so we didn't get to eat together then waitress said she didn't have 100 arms and didn't apologize would not reccomend!

Coffee was good, service was average as We were told table service was on but the server never came back to the table to take our order and we had to order at the counter anyway. The food was terrible I ordered the corned beef hash which specified confit garlic spinach and potato but also came with about a half litre of butter in the bottom of the plate, my girlfriend was served eggs Benedict with bacon so dry it could break teeth would not recommend.

Wanted a light lunch and menu was for large meals. Cabinet food was limited but with a couple of fresh salads. Chose a small portion of the carrot and haloumi salad and it was delicious. Great choice.

Went there with a tour group. Lunch was pre-ordered. It was absolutely lovely. Well presented and the staff were so pleasant and friendly to deal with.

Staff lovely and Friendly, meal was very enjoyable but the lettuce in the American burgers was very excessive, would have been nice if staff member had come back to see if all was ok and if we wanted an other drink, overall an enjoyable lunch tho would happily return.

Superb food and service. Iced chocolate to die for (so the granddaughter says). Just adds to the atmosphere at Transport World. Absolutely first class!

Had the Big Breakfast in the afternoon because I got there late and had not eaten up till then. After that meal I didn't need to eat for another day. Big it was. The restroom was clean and very interesting as well.
Went back there to finish looking g around one of the Best Transport Museums in the World.

Nice food, very themed decor. If you like cars and automotive history then this is definitely the place for you, if not then it is still a nice cafe with some delicious South island food.

Amazing food and service. In for lunch on Saturday. It was reallly busy and at all times were super friendly and accomdating. As a visitor to your city this was a highlight for me.

Sadly can't recommend. The staff seem friendly and pleasant but absolutely run off their feet. We were seated, had to ask for a menu after some time. Had to ask for water. Decided to get cabinet food as I looked like would be a long wait for food, cheese rolls mediocre and the chicken bagette toasted so much the bread could have no way been eaten. Advised the waitress who said thanks for the feed back, no offer of a refund or reeplacement.

Just left the grille dissapointed was not many options no beans with breakfast menu i orderd a iced mocha and got a iced coffe basically ordered the texaco breakfast it cam out dry and both my poached eggs were over done and popd sent it back to the kitchen they could not make me another poached egg for whatever reason i was completly thrown off by the time of wait and to have a meal look like that was my first time there and will be my last time there.

Nice food.
Just a shame I couldn't order the French toast as "they had none" (didn't understand that!),
So second option I chose was bacon, eggs and hash browns.they didn't have any hash browns! A little disappointed in that, otherwise would have been 5 stars

I ordered chicken sliders today, Disappointed, the chicken was very dry and old
Customers service was not the best.

Lovely experience.especially the men's toilet. I won't say anything, but men you have to visit.lovely food and coffee with great service, thank you.

Long wait for food. Seafood Chowder wasnt worth the wait. But rest of family enjoyed their beef meals
