HUHU Cafe reviews
65The most painful dinner I have had recently. No idea how come they've got such a high review, probably change of chef recently?
A lovely little restaurant with gorgeous view.
For entree we had home made. Rewina Bread. My husband had the Smoked pressed pork hock and I had the twice cooked duck leg for mains, all cooked to perfection and had great flavours. I chose the baked cheesecake with mint jelly and chocolate and mint liqueur. Also very nice.
The service was excellent. Highly recommend
Nice food, gorgeous setting. We ordered one of our meals with mash due to coeliac, it came with chips. Waitress assured us it was gluten free but that does not mean coeliac friendly.
Only after 40mins waiting for your food, they started to mention the kitchen malfunction, and when it was around 55mins, it was mentioned only 2 kitchen staff, also when we paid the waitress who served us mentioned COVID and short of staff, and should told us there's waiting time, but when we arrived it was ok.
We paid less than the full price.
This place is a practical jocke. Service is non existent. Everything is filthy. We waited 1h30mins for our food which was basically inedible. Everything was swimming in greace and every single meal was overcooked. Waitesses were constantly touching their faces while touching the food they were peparing for costumers.
You can get the same food for way less money down the street.
Some of the best food I’ve had in all of the north island—what a treasure! Staff were lovely and the restaurant is gorgeous. Could not recommend more!
Outstanding service and warm welcoming. When we arrived, it was already late afternoon. We were one of the two tables so food were served faster than usual. I enjoyed the mussels dish and the special inhouse bread.
Excellent food, so good as we paid the bill we booked dinner for the next night which was equally as good. They only had two staff working the front and these ladies did not stop, if we were staying another night at Waitimo we would go for a third meal.
Very disappointing. After a long wait the waitress bought out the mains but forgot the first course. The food was poorly prepared and very expensive
Delicious meals, friendly wait staff, they like you to make bookings, we walked in and they accommodated us though.
Dropped in to get food and drinks but staff quite unpleasant and didn’t give you the time of the day! So glad we left and went down to Tomo. Much more welcoming staff there!
Great service, fantastic food! Huhu topped off the day at Waitomo. The homemade gnocchi was delightful, steak cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend!
Great food, service, location - would recommend to all overnight visitors to Waitomo. Very accommodating for our group. Cool to see a revolving craft brew selection on tap - Brewaucracy Personal Assistant (APA) was excellent. An essential offering for Waitomo village, and great to see it so busy!
This was an amazing experience. Even though they were short staffed and busy our meals came out in good time. The food was absolutely unbelievable and the beer list is on point. 10 out of 10
Huhu Cafe has amazing food and service. After a long day of adventure we ended up dining in for dinner and I ordered the Beer battered fish and chips with salad. This meal was delicious. Highly recommend
Bit on pricey side but great food. We ordered a number of small plates to share abd the rawena bread with dukkah was delicious. Service was attentive too.
The staff were so friendly and accommodating, they stayed past closing to feed us and when the lovely lady serving us heard me say something to my wife about her birthday, she brought out our dessert with a candle in my wife's one.
The food was delicious and reasonably priced too, would definitely recommend
Had an average experience here today. Arrived at 3: 30pm for a few drinks and food and from the start we felt like an inconvenience. We asked for a table outside and were told we could but they would need to clean a table (uh then yes please). At this point we clearly heard the manager tell the waitress “no more people after this”. The whole staff seemed more focussed on cleaning up after lunch. Menus were slow to arrive, we received water glasses but no water. We ordered 4 plates of food and these were actually great, however when we went to order a couple more we were told the kitchen was closed until 5: 30. Totally understand sometimes places need to operate on a reduced menu outside key hours, but it was odd to completely close down and not forewarn us of this (last orders?). We would have stayed and ordered more food and drinks but had no choice but to leave. I guess only go at main meal times?
Quick service and everything was delicious - definately recommend a bowl of the potatoe skins YUM!
