Licorice Cafe reviews
66Good selection of quality food. Stopped and ate here regularly when living in Turangi. Very busy cafe with friendly staff who were able to make our coffee just the way we wanted.
Excellent cafe, great coffee, lovely food & variety, indoor and outdoor seating friendly cheerful staff, some nice gifts available.
I went to your cafe today and thought the coffee was hot and strong just how I ike it and I swear the date scones are The best I have ever tasted. Thank you
Only stopped in for a takeaway coffee and the staff were adorably friendly and made me one of the best flat whites I have ever tasted. But the true genius of this place is that the coffee came with an INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED POST-COFFEE MINT.
Okay, here’s the good:
The girl serving us was really sweet.
And here's the bad:
An older lady working there kicked us out
for eating inside the premise as we had
'ordered' from the takeaway menu. We
didn't even voluntarily order from that
menu! Nor did we see any signs indicating
we weren't allowed to eat inside if we
ordered takeaway (which, by the way, we
didn't even know there was a different
menu if we had stayed to eat inside).
Her reasoning behind kicking us out was that
the takeaway menu was much ‘cheaper’.
Girl, if it was, we must be eating in different
countries because your takeaway menu is
not ‘cheap’. The three of us ordered
coffees and food, totalling to about
$30-40, yet we aren't allowed to stay and
eat it?
There was one other couple sitting inside
at the time we were there - so it wasn't as
if the place was packed.
You've lost business from us, and all the
people we know. I would never recommend
this place, go to the town over and you'll
get better service and better food. You’ve got a terrible business model if this is how you treat your customers.
Staff checked our vaccine passes as they should. Food was awesome and plentiful. Coffee was brilliant and hot. Easy 5 star experience.
Once again this is a great place to stop, almost half way from north of Auckland to Wellington.
Food is always good, the coffee is consistent and hot, nothing worse than a cold or warm long black, so full marks.
The outside area is great especially with the dreaded covid still hanging around.
They provide plenty of seating for their guests, and the toilets are always clean.
Can't give them more than 5 stars. Although they ask to see your covid pass, but they don't scan it though, maybe they need to train the front desk staff on this aspect!
But then I might be getting a bit picky

Stopped here again on my way back to North Auckland and the service was excellent, had to wait for a table as it was full to capacity.
The food and service is still excellent, as before, now rate it 5 star.
Earlier review: -
Clean and tidy, staff always friendly, good coffee. Convenient place to stop, pretty nice food.
Great Staff, Food Lovely, BUT, for a Big Breakfast, it was very small and expensive $24.00. (x1pc of Toast, Half Tomato, cple of Mushroom, x1 sausage, x2 eggs and x2 tiny pcs of Bacon: () Coffee was lovely AND hot:)
Great service, nice cafe food from the menu and refrigerated cabinet, friendly efficient staff.
We look forward to breaking our journey here. The food is consistently delicious and the servings generous.
Staff are welcoming, attentive and reassuringly prompt in sanitizing surfaces.
Omg the staff are 5
I highly recommend to stop in here if you are traveling through.
Gluten free options are fantastic.
Thank you for the yummy egg roll on my last visit. And the incredible steak sandwich my husband ordered on our visit the time before.
You girls are all superstars at customer service your friendly smiles and bubbly chat (when you have time) you have to try Licorice Cafe, the service and food are top notch.
A place I pop into when journeying between Auck and wellington, quite down to earth place, you will known what I am talking about when you visit
Delicious food, huge serving sizes. Friendly staff and absolutely excellent coffee. Will definitely be back!
Popped into this little beauty of a cafe. Friendly staff and woa just woa the coffee 100% delish. Fabulous
The service was nice and friendly but the corn fritters were awful. Inedible. Like glue in your mouth threatening to lock your jaw shut.
Big improvement on when we last visited a couple of years ago. We had decided it wasn't for us back then but its good now. Great service.
Today was breakfast, we always enjoy your meals & service. A cheeky wee bag of RJ's for the road too? Don't mind if we do!
Total disregard for customers, after driving for hours saw this place and came in, ordered some food and sat down at a table only to be told when there food did arrive that we couldn’t eat there, regardless of other customers coming in and eating. Never did we say we wanted takeaway, we even ordered some tea and to give us our tea in a tea pot then assume we wanted the rest as takeout and tell us paying customers we weren’t allowed to eat there, just doesn’t make sense! And after all that the food was average, wouldn’t recommend just head on and find somewhere else
This place was amazing, my partner and I absolutely loved it, the staff had a great sense of humour, the food was amazing (especially the scrambled eggs!) and the coffee was the best I've ever had, 10/10 recommend it. I will be coming back if I'm ever up those ways
Always good whether choose from cabinet or cooked menu.
Prompt service with food which is important when travelling and on limited time frame
