Shire's Rest Cafe reviews
69You don't have to buy a tour ticket to get into the Cafe, you can take dogs but only outside the Cafe. Good coffee and really friendly staff
The Shire's Rest Café is where all the Hobbiton adventures begin. The food and drinks here are reasonably priced despite being such a popular attraction. We ordered a tasty flat white coffee served in a special paper cup, and it was served quickly. The staff is friendly and always reminds guests to check in downstairs before their trip starts. It's these little details that make the experience even better. Whether you're a huge fan or just curious about Hobbiton, the Shire's Rest Café is a great place to grab a bite and get ready for your amazing journey.
Food is amazing and is really cheap considering that it is a tourist destination, friendly staff and quick service
Avoid or bring your keep cup.
They only do single use cups which is a clear disregard for our environment.
Great cafe! We went for a bite before the hobbiton tour and it was a filling and inexpensive lunch before we went on it. I ordered the pork belly sandwich and it was quite good. They have beepers to get the food. There are premade cold sandwich or you can get a hot toasty. It can get crowded due to the amount of people at hobbiton. They also have a water station.
Good pastry options to go along with a great coffee. The cafe ambience adds quite a charm to go with the food. We had a carrot cake and cream donut, which we enjoyed.
The almond croissant should be stuffed with almond paste. Otherwise, it's not an almond croissant.
Very rude. Seems all staffs are not trained to serve customers well.
If an owner or a manager sees this, you gotta train ur staffs well.
They ruined the first image of this great place.
This was surprisingly good value and tbe food was spot on.
Very tempting range of cakes.
Great coffee and cake prior our Hobbiton Filmset Tour. More Lord of the Rings like ambient would top up the great tour.
If you manage to grab a good spot on the porch, you get nice view overlooking outcoming and incoming hobbit buses.
Good chickenwrap and pastries
Lots of birds flying and chirping around begging for crumbs.
Could use more lotr decorations for a bigger vibe.
Cafe staff treat you like stock. Machine like service and treatment.
Food bland.
Won’t come back.
I know your busy and you can’t take time smile, maybe you don’t have e rough staff.
Zero alcohol beverages served free as part of the trip which was great. Don't expect Cafe inside the The Shire has stock to sell. They just for photo-op
Honestly disappointed. The effort put into the movie set does not translate to the Shire's Rest. This is not a comfortable charming cafe - it is a crowded tourist trap. The menu is limited, the seating capacity is not enough for the number of guests, and the food is nothing special at all.
We had the veggie & lamb burgers, which seemed to be made from frozen patties and were average at best. The baked goods (we had a caramel and a custard slice) were also a let-down. Not at all fresh.
I would recommend getting food in nearby Matamata if you can, as the only perk of the Shire's Rest is that it is the send-off point for Hobbiton tours.
The food here is surprisingly good. I was expecting tourist-trap cafeteria/truck stop manufactured food but the baked goods were excellent. They must contract with a great local baker.
If this is what Hobbits eat, they have great taste. I really enjoyed the the aesthetician of the surroundings, staff was friendly, food was delicious. Will visit again
Nice vibe, super friendly staff, quick service and nice seating area. Not too many vegetarian options so could probably add more plant based options
Vegetable soup of the day, chicken Sandwich, flat White and a slice of cake.
For the location at Hobbiton the prices where surprisingly cheap there.
Amount und taste was fair. Paid 39,50 in total.
This has now become the meeting point for the tour, Cafe and souvenirs. The place was very well kept and the staff friendly, there's a peaceful feel about the place that the family will enjoy.
