The Brantry Restaurant

Most of the dishes we had were quite good. Seemingly only able to dine with a three course meal, if otherwise, it wasn’t spelt out.

To the reviewer below King Ocean (Blue Wave) I am the Fat and Fabulous owner of the past 20 years who placed the tissues at your table last night, yes when you asked for tissues, I directed you to where you would find them as there seemed no urgency for them and being young you are more than capable of getting these yourselves, however noticing that you had not gone to the bathrooms I then brought and placed them to your table. I was also the one who was asking if you would like any aditional drinks and was the one who brought over the requested hot water even with a plate of lemons that was not asked for, even refilling the hot water when asked all with a warm smile, as after 20 years I still love being in the restaurant. I have given 5 stars for the way you felt compelled to describe me as a fat lady, being a size 12 and 3 kids you have to be aware of the damage you can do mentally to someone by stating that! Twice I may add. I know you may not read this however as owners we do and so do our staff, we take on board constructive feedback. But you can still BE KIND!

I lived in Taupo about 4 yrs and had dinner here many times before, usually good, but today, Me and my sister had dinner tonight, during the dinner, we politely asked the staff (a fat lady), can we have some tissue please, the lady told us: there r some tissue in the toilet, u can have it urself which give us a surprise and after 3 min, she just throw a box of tissues to our table (see the pic),
I paid $223 for 2 of us for dinner, all receipt will be attached, don't think it worth for this.
Just my own opinion, maybe the staff (fat lady) who is unhappy today, who knows.

Excellent restaurant. We went there on the first night of our holiday in Taupo and liked it si much we returned the next night too. Good selection on the $80 3 course set menu. Will definitely be back next time. YUM

I saw a review for a good steak. Went in, not realising it was 3 course meal. 4 if you count the rather exception bread with some sort of delicious infused butter.
Tremendous meal. I had the prawns, steak, and sticky date pudding to finish. Absolutely stuffed, but, just delectable meal. Will come back, with friends!

Fine NZ focused dining for a reasonable price on the 3 course set priced menu. Exquisite food flavor and plating. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff putting guests at ease if new to the experience.

What a lovely evening my husband and I had. We both went for the 3 course meal option with him opting for duck and I for the fillet steak. Both were cooked perfectly and served with a delightful combination of tastes and texture that complimented the meat perfectly. Although the restaurant was very busy, with a couple of large parties, it still felt intimate and the timing of which our meals were served was great. Awesome quality eating experience

We had a really fantastic meal here. The service was good, the food was great! I really enjoyed the duck rillette sandwich, and both our mains (the lamb and the beef fillet) were so good. I ordered my beef fillet rare and really appreciated that it was actually rare! So often they come out overcooked. The gnocchi that came with the beef fillet was a highlight as well. My only criticism would be I would have appreciated a steak knife. Also you should be able to get the miso butter with the bread at the start, it was delicious. If I lived in Taupo I would return often. Thanks for a wonderful meal.

Stumbled across this hidden gem. Lovely food and great service. Highly recommended! Thanks so much - we will be back.

Very nice unpretentious feel. The food is excellent. The art works are plentiful and pricey and will appeal to others I'm sure.

Food was amazing, however the duck breast was only two slices and could have a couple more slices of duck, as it felt more like an entree. The service was very good though!

Awesome, went out of their way to make sure our dietry needs were met. Food was glorious, staff exceptional. Fantastic all round. Highly reccomended. Keep up the exceptional service. 10 out of 10

Most amazing dinner experience ever! The food choice is brilliant. The wine list is brilliant. The service is brilliant. A must go to restaurant, especially for that special occasion.

Really lovely food, which we all enjoyed, no problem there at all. Also a lovely setting, and attentive staff. We were a group of five, and unfortunately seated close to a loud and large group. Like the other tables in the area, we left early rather than request to shifted - not wanting that drama. Putting large groups in a more private area would have been sensible, and for us would have made an unpleasant dining experience a whole lot better. The fixed price, 3 course arrangement is also not going to suit everyone.

Sadly we had an unpleasant night at the Brantry. The three course/set price arrangement will not suit everyone, and the lady who seems to be running the show is pretty fearsome!

Beautiful food, I was so worried, that my friends wouldn't like it, but I made the right choice we all loved it Food Wine was impressed by everything, keep it up, we will be back.

Booked a meal as a treat for my 50th Birthday. On arrival we were seated indoors in an empty dining area, that had a nice empty outdoor dining area joining (a bit strange to be seated indoors during Covid we thought). The menu was surprisingly limited, not much to choose from at all and very expensive for what the dishes were.
We ordered a drink and our main, then another couple came in and the staff member sat this couple right behind me so the other person’s chair was rubbing up against my chair. I questioned this immediately and the answer I received was “everyone is double vaccinated” which I took to mean I should be happy to get Covid from a fully vaccinated person, rather than an unvaccinated person!
The staff eventually let us sit outside (where we should have been from the start) and just treated us as unwelcome guests after that. All we hear is how hard Covid has been on hospitality, yet this display clearly demonstrated the business has no interest in the safety of its customers. Ruined my birthday. If you’re looking to enjoy a meal out and support local businesses that care about your wellbeing – this is not the place to spend your money.

Always a great place to dine. Staff are fabulous, food is great. Lovely atmosphere. Our go to dinning place when in Taupo.
