50-50 restaurant

This is the third time we have visited and I think February's menu was perhaps my favourite, which is not to say the others haven't been excellent. It's just that I can't decide which of the 9 courses was the best, as they all were. Well done.
We thoroughly enjoyed the wine matches - cleverly picked - and were very impressed that you even had a non-alcoholic match too. This was very well received by our designated driver and each match was so very well thought out - a lot of work went into that. It's such a good idea.
Another brilliant evening with knowledgeable, friendly and attentive staff and it was lovely to be welcomed back - what attention to detail! As usual, cant wait for the next time. Thanks to all on Saturday night.

True fine dining in a modest restaurant on an equally modest street. The exterior tells you NOTHING about the standard of cuisine you will enjoy inside. EASILY the same standard as any fine dining in Auckland or indeed elsewhere, but without the price, formality, and pomp.

I purchased an E-voucher from their website 3 days ago and have still not received it. No return call to remedy the problem has been made and no response to my email. The voucher was meant to be for my Dad's birthday in the weekend but due to the lack of communication and poor quality customer service he definitely won't be dining at this place. I would not recommend purchasing an e-voucher from here, unless you want you're money taken from you and to be ripped off! Very disappointing

Went there for our son's 21st birthday. Absolutely delicious meal served in humble surroundings. Will be making this our annual treat. Not cheap, but worth every penny!

Have returned to dine at 50: 50 many times. Perfect for special occasions but also just for an evening out. You can order either their 6 or 9 course menu, with alterations for food allergies, and with or without wine matching. The menu keeps changing to keep things interesting. Gorgeous food presented like artwork, which your server will explain to you as it's brought out. We always ask for the menu to be left on the table to remind us what's next. Not a large place, bookings ESSENTIAL, but they do cater for groups. Indoor dining only. If you love food, this is the place to go.

Excellent evening of tasty, innovative dishes with interesting and well matched wines. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Cant wait for the next time.

Helen has the most innovative approach when designing her menus, her incredible ability to combine diverse and interesting ingredients to create phenomenal flavours and textures makes her food exceptional. In the 4 years since I’ve been going to 50-50 I’ve rarely had the same dish twice and I’m consistently surprised and delighted with the range and creativeness of the courses on offer, each dish is beautifully presented with flair and attention to detail. Helen’s commitment to using, fresh, local, foraged and healthful ingredients and her generosity in accomodating dietary restrictions has made 50-50 my most favourite restaurant in New Zealand. Having had the privilege to enjoy degustation meals at top restaurants around the world for over 20 years, I feel qualified to say that 50-50 is not only outstanding value for money, but it’s also a world class dining experience which I highly recommend at my own peril (as it’s already impossible to make a booking at short notice). Service is impeccible and the degustation menu on offer is fabulous. And ever changing. On this occasion I dined with my Partner, but we intend to book the Chef's table on our next visit. A visit to 50-50 is a very special occasion. I have been twice and loved both visits. I find it exciting to see what the next course is - referring back to the menu is interesting! It's such a lovely experience eating a menu that has been designed without me having to make any decisions - I just arrive and relax. I also enjoy that it takes me out of my comfort zone.

The friendly, enthusiastic and informative manner of Helen and all her staff is also a delight. So lovely that the chef pops over to your table to deliver a course and say "hi".

The food and service are such a highlight that I prefer the intimacy of just being a couple or a small group who are all interested in the dining experience. Definitely a place for a special occasion (and who says a special occasion can't be regular!).
