The chicken dish was tough and lacking in flavour.
Advertised as an organic chicken with sauces I found
The meal utterly forgettable. Dined august, 2022

The best meal that I had in Wellington during my week there. I highly recommend the lamb shoulder and the 'mashed potato'.

Couldn’t fault this restaurant. We have dined in many times. Service is always consistent and so is the food.

Great selection of wine and delicious cocktails. Tried almost everything on the menu. Outstanding fine dining experience in wellington.

One thing I could change I wish the menu changes frequently.

The service was courteous but aloof. Food was half good and half narcissist. Dishes from Medium were tasty and well presented. On the other side, Dry, Salty, Dark chicken swam in soy sauce pond. Not really a hint of smoked flavor from chicken. Try to imitate Asian flavors but it failed. Large dishes haven’t brought out the theme from the menu. Wagyu rump was juicy but thyme butter wasn’t hitting the point. Lack of smoky and herbal flavor. Flounder was perfectly cooked. The “Ndjua Butter” didn’t perform well as an emulsion sauce. It was separated to red oil all over the plate. Spiciness from Salumi wasn’t present in the butter.

First time at Highwater and definitely won't be the last! Incredible food, great vibe, and even better service. We came in without a booking and the server went out of his way to find us a spot (book in advance - she's a busy place!). Loved the open plan kitchen where you can see the chefs creating the delicious dishes. Highly recommend if you're happy to share plates

When lock down first started to ease, I went a little overboard and went here to use as a shelter from the crazy night. I ask for a black coffee with a shot of whisky to (sober?) up.got some strange looks but the barista accommodated me and then left me alone (not sure if for me or they were just hoping I left soon). Any hoo, Thanks for strangely sobering me up.

Visited on Saturday for the set menu - service was mostly really good apart from the fact that one of our party is gluten free and was left confused at what food was gluten free/if there was supposed to be separate food coming out for her. She was given some gluten free bread at the beginning and then was not spoken to for the rest of the night so she had no idea what she was supposed to eat which wasn’t very nice for her. I had the vegan menu which was nice enough but definitely not worth the $85. I think that maybe I was overcharged too because another one of our party who got the vegan menu was only charged $75

The second time around this restaurant.
It has a 5 service and food. They offer a perfect balance between very simply ingredients and kind of more exclusive ones, presenting a well thought and prepared plates. I loved how they take some simply ingredients like broccoli and elevate it. It seems to me some French influence but done in a layback kiwi style.

In terms of prices, they seem fair to me; it worth the money.

I would definitely recommend it.

Absolutely delicious! Excellent friendly but professional service. My two friends and I went for the Chef’s menu and a couple of bottles of red. The staff catered really well for my coeliac (gluten free) sister and all the food and wine was superb. Definitely recommend this place for a special night out.

If you like unique flavor combinations with incredible taste, this is your place. Just keep the plates coming until you can't eat anymore. And by the way excellent service as well explaining the menu and the dishes as they arrive

Delicious food, wonderful staff. Shame they don't have a food intolerance menu readily available, almost didn't go there as couldn't tell if they catered for celiacs but here's the hand written menu.

Some of Wellingtons best coffee. Delicious breakfast menu. Definitely get a side or two. Highly recommend the croquette. The sausage is amazing but for the price I would have liked a second one.

Utterly dreadful. To begin for a place of this caliber the service was fast and good, the first dish was a delicious medley of fresh vegetables beautiful! And overshadowed by the ridiculous sweetness of sugar that fought against the umami of the row toasted seed and nori flakes. Next was by far the worst Karaage chicken ever. Bland small, chewy batter, matched with a god awful muscle sauce with the shade of mud, Next was the main and last side. Flounder, my first experience with flounder was here. A sad day indeed, You are expected to dissect a maze of thin bones to eventually arrive at bland tasteless meat drenched in butter and Finally the supposed roasted Beetroot I only suspected it was beetroot as the dunk tank of acrid olive oil was the only profile visible.

Highwater is absolutely my fav place in Wellington! We’ve been there for both bunch and dinner several times and the flavor of the food is amazing! Absolutely loved the vege crudites and flounder. They are always busy but we never needed to wait too long for the food. The front of the house team is also very professional. I’m looking forward to coming back again!

Very popular place. Wasn't overly impressed with our reception and felt like we were "squeezed" into a bar seat without much politeness towards the person we sat by. The snack was delicious. The drink range great. $11 for the sparkling water? Really?
