Newtown Medical Centre reviews
39 Have previously been relatively content with this practice however they appear to becoming more and more purely profit driven over the last 2 years.
The latest change is that female Doctors are now either completely unable to perform smears or the practice is refusing to allow them to.
For me to book a routine smear and a simple step down in a dose of (current) medication (which in the past has been a 5 min smear and a less than 5 minute discussion) I am now forced to book both a nurse and a Drs appointment and pay for both separate appointments.
This on top of recent fee increases, decreases in appointment times, numerous prescription errors, and a high turnover of staff speaks volumes about the intentions of the practice-despite any "justifications" they try to give.
Disappointed.
Seriously need to get a better receptionist. I only go to the doctors maybe twice a year but would like some good service when I do. Rude receptionist. I should have stayed with Hataitai doctor, you get treated like a person not an annoyance.
Can never get through to reception by phone. They never respond to emails. I’m really disappointed that I have moved my GP services to them.
Bad customer service at reception. For years now, every time I go there, they treat me like if they are doing me a favour to help them. Like someone said rightly, they just bark at you, like if every customer is just waisting their time.
Really poor customer service. No care for patient. Very unhelpful on the phone and actually rude. Don’t deliver on timeframes for important medication as they said. I’ve had issues for simple requests several times. Would not recommend this practice at all.
Some of the doctors are excellent, especially Dr Parsons, but the receptionists really take down the overall experience: patronising and unhelpful
My doctor is great but I have had reception not answer phone, been hung up on multiple times when it said 'leave a message' (leaving me unable to make contact) and most recently been unable to get through for days (bc phone is busy during the hours I am able to call and there is no option for a call back). They failed to update my details online so I'm unable to get a script online.so right now it will cost my fifty dollars to get an emergency script faxed or I will go through terrible withdrawal (because I was unable to get through and none of my messages were answered). I am poor bc of a debilitating illness (that I need medication for), so this is really hard. Poorly run service but again, great doctor when I am able to get an appointment
Every experience I have had here has been excellent. Nurse Gordan is very knowledgeable and helpful and I always feel comfortable there. Dr Hayworth made me feel truly listened to and gave me great info and medication for my chronic headaches which I had suffered from for 5 years. I'm now headache free, which has changed my life and I'm super grateful. Highly recommend this practise! Very professional and caring.
They're seem ok not too officious but do they ever answer the phone I've often spent a week trying to get through
Friendly and professional staff. The doctors here are open to other possibilities in their diagnosis. One downside was a machine in the main reception that is supposed to help guide you with your appointment. I tried to use this machine but it did not seem to do anything. I did not see a sign that said not to use this machine.
For migrants I wont recommend this place as I had a bad experience. Depends on the reception. There are about two ladies who would just bark at you if they are not in the mood (May be bcos too much documents to handle if its migrants). But otherwise doctors are super good plus some of the reception staff too.
Went there three times (each time costing $40 for an appointment) in a month, all the time vomiting (up to three times a day), not being able to move much, and they just gave me anti-nausea pills. I was told it will pass and it hasn't shown any signs of improvement. My boyfriend, a student nurse and suspects I have non-erosive gastritis, which is caused by Helicobacter Pylori. The doctor refuses to prescribe antibiotics due to the risk of MRSA's, but he also refuses to further diagnose me, even though a barium X-ray or an endoscopy will be able to tell if I do need antibiotics. Instead he assumes I need a liver test, then they miss labelled the first blood sample and for the second they didn't even tell me my results. Avoid this place, your health is at risk of unprofessional practice. In fact I had fungal induced pneumonia years ago and they forgot to tell me while I was at home! I found out they were "going to contact me" later when my parents rushed me to the hospital ED.
Very lucky to have them. Excellent GP, not always possible to get a quick apppintment but that's what emergency clinics are for. Staff are knowledgeable and professional.
I've been at Newtown Medical for sometime now and this is the first time I've heard a Doctor say your visit should be 20 minutes. Next time I visit I will take a stop watch to ensure I get 20 minutes worth of my paying time. Thanks New Doctor who started working there!
Tried many centers, and this is y far the best. No delays, no rescheduling, and very nice staff
Have been going here for over 20yrs. Love my GP but so do a lot of people so sometimes hard to get into see her. Would see couple of the other GP's there but definitely a couple I wouldn't. Reception and nursing staff wonderful. Just shame that it's so hard to get a car park
I don't know the doctors, but a receptionist was really rude and didn't pay attention to any of my answer.
There's plenty of medical center in Wellington so you should take more care of potential customers.
Have had nothing but fantastic experiences each time I've gone, whether it be a doctor or a nurse I was seeing. Everyone is extremely thoughtful, kind and considerate and they make you feel very comfortable. They're often running a bit behind schedule but what medical centre isn't!
Have always been able to get same or next day attention from the medical centre. Staff are always clear and helpful.
