Nikau Cafe reviews
61 Unique dining experience, that was the first joke. We were so excited about this Argentinian experience. Do not be fooled by the juicy glossy pictures, you will be dissapointed. The meats were tough and chewy the sirloin was well done the pork was dry. The sides were cold and the chunk of anaemic cabbage slightly warm. As for the complimentary drink dont get too excited it's a choice of lemonade or Vermouth Rosso with soda
Underwhelming and uninspiring. $69 a head certainly not value for money.
Inexperienced and untrained staff, terribly managed. After waiting 45 minutes for our order we were told it wasn't even processed. No genuine apology or compensation offered. Coffees also take far too long to be made and were below average at best.
Disappointing to see as a hospitality worker - if you decide to go, set your expectations low
It's been a long time between visits, but it won't be long before I go back. They have a fantastic brunch menu with plenty of variety. Gorgeous looking treats in the cabinet and friendly efficient service. We both had the kimchi frittata and thoroughly enjoyed it.
First time at Nikau Cafe. Unfortunately, it was not a pleasant experience. Extremely slow and rude service. Food was okay but not good enough to overcome the poor service. Specifics - very slow, passed between two servers neither of which offered to take our order until we tracked them down, server held up a finger and told my wife to wait when attempting to order a coffee.that was after not seeing him for 10-15 minutes.
Great location, and a nice atmosphere indoors and in a nice sheltered patio. Good food and coffee make for a solid stop around the waterfront.
Went to the evening outdoor BBQ which was totally enjoyed by our group. Heaps of tasty Argentinean food, a complementary drink and a delicious dessert
If you like being totally ignored by the staff even though you have clearly been waiting to be seated for over 10 minutes (with visible empty seats/tables), the staff avoiding eye contact and not acknowledging you when you’re trying to get their attention, not being given menus or have the table cleaned after asking the staff yourself to be seated, the staff giving you a blatant eye roll when you ask for tomato sauce and being told rudely there’s no tomato sauce…. What kind of cafe in Aotearoa has no tomato sauce? Then Nikau Cafe is the place for you!
The rudest staff and worst service we have ever experienced. We will never be back and will not recommend to any of our family and friends.
The rudest staff with the eye roll problem is the one with lots of arm tattoos. His attitude was utterly disgusting.
It's been a while since I was last there. Coffee is good with friendly and quick customer service. Love the ambiance. Looks like a favourite haunt for the urbanites
Lovely food (Sage fried eggs a taste explosion).
Coffee temperature a little on the cool side, especially if you didn't drink it as soon as it was served.
Plenty of umbrellas up in the sunny courtyard.
Quite disappointed with my encounter at Nikau Cafe. Awhile ago I called ahead of time and was told I could purchase gift vouchers in store at the cafe. I popped over one morning during my morning tea break to purchase one for the Experience Asado (value for $150.00). I was told by staff they didn't know how to process this and asked the manager who too responded with not knowing how to do one and that she'd never have to do one before. She then told me that wait while she made some coffees and she would try to find out. After waiting close to ten minutes and clearly being ignored, I left the cafe. It was a waste of my time and despite the staff not knowing how to process vouchers, it was more the fact that I was a willingly paying customer being ignored. I understand coffee orders are a priority and whether that particular morning was busy or they were understaffed I don't know but I didn't appreciate being stood there waiting around. Ultimately I feel bad for the cafe overall as I no longer wished to spend that money there!
Excellent location for lunch in combination with the superb Hilma Klint exhibition at City gallery.especially if raining as attached
Great coffee with good service, situated right next to the City Gallery, which is so convenient to sit down and read
Went for the try Asado night and it was fantastic! Everything was delicious, with a special shout out to the amazing "pizza pork". Really enjoyable night with a lovely atmosphere, would really recommend for trying something a little different. We left absolutely stuffed, there's plenty food available, with seconds of quite a few things!
Best scrambled Eggs ever, soft and buttery with subtle taste of herbs. The coffee was great as was the service. Modern decor with relaxed atmosphere.
This place is super cozy! You feel miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet it is actually located in the heart of the city.
Various options for the high quality foods and they can cater for GF and DF.
Reasonable price and friendly staffs.
Highly recommend!
We had the privilege of attending the Asado Argentinean grill barbque tonight which was fantastic. Food and service was excellent. Recommended
Brilliant staff, particularly our waitress who was an absolute delight. Great banter and a wicked sense of humour without overdoing things. The food was fresh and delicious and the coffee was exceptional.
Completely oversubscribed with patron's.
I suggest they might need to look at getting more staff.
Walked out after waiting 30 minutes.
Delicious food and good sized portions. Our waitress was absolutely lovely. Very attentive and always had a smile on her face. Definitely recommend:)
What a welcoming place to stay after a long day of bicycle touring. We soaked up the last rays of the autumn sun on the large porch drinking a delicious brew of Nikau Cafe coffee. Anne and Phillip were consummate hosts delivering a tasty wholesome evening meal and a cosy bed behind the office during our overnight stay. We plan on coming back again!
