Portofino Restaurant Wellington reviews
77Lastnite with my social club outting me and my partner Loved the steak and mushrooms with pepper steak sauce and the chicken and veg was
The vibe here is that of being sophisticated and accommodating with the staff working furiously in the background to ensure the deliciously fresh food and amazing drinks (cocktails) are presented well and delivered efficiently. Attention to detail was very obvious during my visit. And what a view!
After an hour of waiting after placing an order, we approached the staff regarding our order asking what's happening, they looked on their system and discovered they hadn't entered the order in the system.
The food was nice when it eventually came out. They gave us 2 shots (we were driving so was pointless and mentioned this)
However when we asked for a discount on the order due to the long wait time at the end they said they had given us one by giving us those shots.shocking customer service and the staff didn't take this seriously.
Won't be coming back here. Disappointing portofino.
Loving the penne all'arrabiata - just the right level of spiciness for me and always something for the kids too:)
I would give 10 out of 10 for the tablerone coctail.it was absolutely fantastic.
Had a seafood pasta, unfortunately cant say the same.no seasoning, and i couldnt see any seafood except mussels.i couldnt find even 1 pc of calamari which was upsetting.but anyway the atmosphere and the cocktail made my day.
Substandard food and recieved food we hadn't even ordered.
Discussed issues with management and they weren't concerned at all️
Should have read reviews before we decided to dine in.
Avoid at all cost!
Garlic bread was lovely, very disappointed in the lasagne, tasted good but I could have done the same with a jar of Dolmio, herbs two spoons of mince, very large dollop of mozzarella, sprinkle a few herbs and pop in the oven. No pasta whatsoever, yuk. Not as authentic as I thought it would be.
We had a wonderful time. The service was excellent and the food was to die for. We will definitely return again.
The main dishes were lovely, but I ordered the panna cotta for dessert. I asked a waitress what the flavor was, and was told it was vanilla. The panna cotta came and there was berry compote on top. Unfortunately I really don’t like berries, and the texture was lumpy, very unlike what panna cotta should be like.
I went to the manager and he was very passive aggressive in nature and raised his voice saying that the berries were a garnish and there’s no need to let us know what the garnish is (which is a food safety hazard from an allergen standpoint). It was a very unpleasant experience and entirely unlike what excellent hospitality should be like. The panna cotta should have a description of what the compote was, and the texture was not smooth at all. I don't think I wouldn't minded that much if he hadn't patronized me.
In addition, I specifically asked the manger to place candles on my friends profiteroles as it was her birthday, but the desserts came and he failed to do so.
All in all it was a very unpleasant experience to be treated that way.
Atmosphere was really nice, staff were really friendly, the food was average it didn't take me to Italy but the place and everything else was nice.
Great location on the waterfront. Food wasn’t great. Felt very basic and didn’t feel authentic. Price didn’t match the food that came out. Staff were really friendly and the atmosphere was good.
Very poor experience here. Food was overpriced, had very little taste and we had to wait a very long time for it to come out. Someone at my table asked for the calamari GF and the waitress warned us that it would be rubbery. I ordered the garlic pizza pene which was unpleasant as it had raw (or very undercooked) garlic on it that has left a horrid taste in my mouth all afternoon. What appeared to be the owner was standing around looking very unhappy, even when I deliberately tried to smile at him. Not the most inviting place to dine and I would not recommend.
Terrible I eat regularly at portofino in Gisborne where the meat quality is 2nd go none here it was terrible to put it mildly. I understand it's all about bums on seats and quick turnover but order takin starters main course all within 20 minutes with a full restaurant. Even McDonald's would struggle to pull that off.keep up good work willy in gisborne at least you care about your customers.
Portofinos is a "family owned restaurant" found in several cities throughout New Zealand. We ate there in Taupo and again in Wellington. They offer an Italian cuisine, as might be expected. We enjoyed different dishes each time, once with several friends who also enjoyed their choices (including te mussels!) We would recommend it!
Average food at best. The most enjoyable part of our meal were the fries, once they finally arrived. Staff seemed like they did not want to be there at all and did not want us there either. One gentleman (the owner perhaps as he was standing around throughout the entirety of our meal not appearing to do anything) glared at us on multiple occasions, did not greet us, did not smile at us, or appear to want our service at all. Would not go back.
Excellent and can't fault it. Great service, amazing food and great atmosphere. This is one of a dozen or so in the Portofino group A family owned restaurant chain with genuine Italian cuisine. I have also eaten in the waterfront in Auckland and this was just as good.
The choice on the menu looked good but the food was not well prepared. My meal lacked any taste and my wife's was too tough for her to eat. I give 2 stars rather than once as the staff were helpful and efficient.
Main dishes are nicely cooked and so delicious. Desserts are not as polished. The tiramisu, for example, would offend an Italian person eating it. Cheesecake is also not what one would come to expect.
Not impressed veal marsala made with corn flour rather than cream sauce. Made it floury and tasteless. Expect better for 33 dollars.
The chicken and steak was halal and all meals were looking good food for all the family and a nice view
