Haast Visitor Centre reviews
9Lovely visitor center with a great set of displays talking about the history and ecology of the area. Great views of the nearby marsh and wild critters from within the visitor's center! The staff are knowledge about walks along the coast and into the park. Make sure to stop here if you want to learn more about the lovely landscape you're driving through.
2023/2/6 I had lunch nearby and came here for a walk. There is a small museum inside, which mainly talks about the geography, history and ecology of the West Coast, and the content is quite rich. There are also small trails outside for a walk.
A bit of a rare gem I think. Stopped in for a quick look about 4pm and could have spent a while wandering through the exhibitions but for closing time at 4.30pm. Helpful staff greeted and farewelled us, and the exhibitions and displays were interesting on top of the usual maps and guides available.
Definitely worth a look if you are in the area.
Museum is great and well worth the visit.
However the gardens and water features in particular are in a state of disrepair. A bit sad looking as you walk past it to get to the museum. Hope they can fix water features soon.
Used to be a great place to stop for lunch or a break before crossing the HAAST river
Friendly and informative. This makes a welcome stop on the west coast highway with imaginative displays and a wealth of information. Loved the rain forest!
This is one of the better visitor centers i’ve seen.comprehensive overview of area and history.wish i had more time to spend at this place
This is one of the best information centers in New Zealand in my opinion. A lot of useful information with maps, everything is new beautiful, there is a shop and a small museum inside.
On 18Jul2022 we are stuck at Haast and we went to the visitor centre, the assistant at information counter is very friendly, nice and helpful. He help us to check what has happen on the road closed and ever make a call to them. After checking he has mention need to book a hotel around this area while the road was closed because of the falling trees.
A spatious centre with several permanent exhibitions, an info desk, and a small shop. The exhibitions are informative but dated. The centre could certainly use more funding from the DOC, especially as it's presenting the UNESCO World Heritage site information to the tourists. But definitely worth a stop.
