Pancake Rocks Lookout reviews
32Great place to see an interesting geological phenomenon. The walk is well laid out with plenty of viewing bays and information boards. Free parking and a cafe/shop and at the time of visiting they were constructing a new visitor centre opposite. 25 minutes drive from Greymouth so if, like us, you're booked on the Tranzalpine Express there's plenty of time to check in at the station, drive up to see the rocks, have a coffee and drive back to the station to hand over the hire car before the train arrives.
Nice lookout onto some interestingly looking rock formations. Awesome landscape especially on a beautiful and sunny day.
It's only a 20 minute loop walk so definitely recommended doing it.
It also has a blowhole which looks interesting and you can get nice videos out of it.
Coole Strecke zum Fahren von Greymouth. Tolle Formationen. Super gemachter Weg, gepflegt und Leute verteilen sich gut, auch wenn viel los ist.
Short drive and walk from our accommodations. Very picturesque views of the ocean and wave action on the rocks.which of course are in sedimentary layers.
One of the most beautiful places in the world
Could do with a nice Cafe or dinner place close but factor this into the trip and you're set.
This is a must do in NZ. Nice trail to the outlook and beautiful views all around. Interesting rock formations and coastline. Great photo ops!
The walk is not long. The rocks are very interesting. There are some walkways which are closed for repairs. As the tide was out the blow holes were not blowing. If possible I would try and arrange the visit for high tide
Wonderful stop and views, if you don't mind crowds. Parking across the street was full and tourists galore along the paths. But for good reason. Great views and topography. Highly recommended (early).
Great place to see for no cost. Much more interesting than just rocks. Good 20 min stroll clear plenty of room in you cameras memory!
There's a large parking lot with good space for large vehicles. The start is lovely if you have the time to enjoy a meal at the Pancake house cafe and browse in the gift shop next door or grab some delicious ice cream before or after your walk across the street to the rocks and blow holes. Bathrooms near the gift shop. No dogs allowed. It's a quick walk, but the entire visit may not be because you'll stop many times for pur enjoyment and awe. These are very well paved paths and plenty of lookout points. The path is wide and flat enough for a stroller and maybe even a wheelchair. Very clean. The blow holes are intriguing, especially for kids. We visited on a semi busy day but still enjoyed areas with no one around. The rain had just paused for a bit right at the start, so we were able to enjoy it relatively clear.
Was last here almost 50 years ago. The changes to the paths etc are really well done and of course if you are going to check it out, be there at high tide to see and hear all the action. Sadly the bridge in the middle was being worked and approach path closed, so hard to get in a good position to see the blowholes working.
Really cool place! Finally got to stop here after missing it the last couple times. Really cool to learn about the area and the thundering booms of the waves in the surge pool is insane!
We visited on a windy day it just added to a great walk. Just what you expect on the West coast.
Fantastic walk way. Very easy and enjoyable. Very good sign posting through out the walk.
A must see stop.
Fantastic views on a sun-drenched Sunday afternoon. What a shame that due to covid so few people enjoyed this marvelous place today.
We loved it. Just up the road from where we were staying. Something for free these days are rare. Unfortunately we weren't there when it was high tide, so missed out on the blow hole working. Fantastic scenery and shapes in the rocks. I did manage to get a photo of the Chimney pot in action
What an incredible geographical feature. The walkway allows free, up-close and intense views of these strange cliffs. It is safe, clean, and easily accessible for all ages and stages of life. The nearby shops are great too. This is a must-see place in New Zealand and a key part of a wider wonderful West Coast experience. I always visit here if I'm on the West Coast
Beautiful place great veiws out to Mt Cook. But take your time lovely walk on a lovely path and nice veiwing vantage spots. Well kept site.
Take the road to get there, and then make the time to stop and look around.
A great and safe track system to look around, with helpful info and awesome views.
We were on a motorcycle ride around the top of the south, and this was a great "must do".
A must-see iconic spot. The wak is relaxing and seeing so many trees and plants growing naturally is beautiful.
I was not expecting to be as awe struck with the rocks as I was. A stunning spot even when the tide was out which the blow holes were not happening.
