Priya Cafe & Restaurant reviews
60The food is exceptionally good. Not sure why the ratings are sub-par. This place had the best lamb Rogan Josh I've ever had.
Dined in for lunch with my girlfriend and had a delicious, well-portioned meal, and enjoyed the atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and were knowledgeable about their dishes.
Our order: Onion Bhajees and Garlic Naan as starters, Butter Chicken and Lemon Honey Chicken Curry as entrees, and Gulab Jamun for dessert.
Utterly poor service. Didn't allow us to feed our infant with our own food who obviously could not be eating Indian breads and curry. We asked for plastic cutlery for the kids and they said they didn't have - and then when the kid accidentally broke a glass cup, nobody bothered to come help clear the broken glass. At the end of it, they even insisted that we pay back NZ$5 for the broken glass. Don't bother visiting this non-customer oriented place. I regret not walking out in the first place.
We are travelling through Greymouth, and we spotted this Indian restaurant. As we stepped into the restaurant, we had a good feeling about the quality we could have. It was nice and tidy. We tried out two dishes: the butter chicken and the lamb handi.
The chicken and the lamb were tender; the butter chicken sauce was slightly sweeter than usual, but it was tasty. The sauce for the lamb was also great; we liked the spicyness and the rich flavour. We also loved the garlic naan bread, which had a nice balance between the seasoning and the bread as well.
As a bonus the staff was friendly and professional, not pushy always came at the right time.
Passing through Greymouth and stopped for lunch. Indian food isn't usually on our radar but the food here was nice. Quick service, clean, polite, tasty. Would stop here again if ever in Greymouth.
Food was as delicious as it always is. Great service and even though we hadn't been in for a couple of months the man taking our orders remembered exactly what we always have. Our only complaint was that the restaurant is very cold.
They use halal meat. Good portion size, good price and good service. Nice ambiance. Food tastes good.
Ordered Prawn Malabar. Only had what appeared to be a few small shrimp. Brought it up with the restaurant but they brushed me off saying you get 12 pieces of prawns per dish. Based on the size of the so called prawns that would only be equivalent to two of the larger prawns you would normally get in a dish of this kind. Absolute rip off and waste of $25. You couldn't even tell there was any meat in it. Won't order from there again.
This restaurant has been open 28 years and the decades of experience shows. The chicken jalfrazie was delicious. What's more, it arrived streaming hot, in generous portions, to our table barely 15 minutes after we ordered. Friendly staff
Bought karhai chicken few hourse back it’s not even seems like kadai chicken it seems like low grade chicken tikka massala. Not worth spending $20. It’s so sweet.
I never complaint abou anything but really Please try to avoid this place. We had the veggie options and the food tasted like nothing! No texture, no flavor, nothing! We paid for the worst indian food ever! When the lady ask us about the food we couldnt lie and she dont ever care we were unhappy. Really, AVOID THIS PLACE
We ate here 2 nights in a row. First takeaways then done in. Amazing food great flavors. Service was fast and friendly. Very busy but no delay with food or drinks. Clean and tidy venue. We loved it.
Bit hit and miss with this place! I PMd them before posting this feedback, there was no reply. Ordered the mango chicken only 5 little bits of chicken. Tasted like they squirted some sweet mango flavoured sauce on top was yuck! Ended up throwing it out.
Food was good. Lots of vegan options. Curry’s are very flavourful. Samosa’s were great size and quite nice. However, the rice was a tad dry, mushrooms not tasting fresh, and the meal was not very hot (temperature wise) being served extremely quickly, suggesting not freshly prepared.
Lady wouldn’t allow us to sit at a table of our preference even though the restaurant was almost closed and empty. Felt a bit pushy.
The size of the curry’s in relation to the rather high price wasn’t great - I would expect a much larger serving for the price.
Absolutely delicious. Better than almost all the curries I've had in the big cities in Australia
I think the curry was nice however, the portion of protein in the curry was smaller than other indian restaurants I have been to and they short changed me one garlic nann bread which I paid for.
Also when I asked for a bottle of coca-cola, it was $7 for a 1.5L coke which is in my opinion heavily marked up.
Overall 2 and a half stars. Would only recommend if that's your only choice which being a small community, it probably is.
Maybe just make your own and save yourself a small fortune.
Went there tonight with very little else open in Greymouth, luckily the hotel we are staying at gave the recommendation, we went by and ordered for takeaway but then decided to eat in.
Ordered butter chicken and lamb madras both hot as we like spicey. It was really really good. Raita also super with the hot dishes.
Go there if you can! It’s really worth it! Plus staff very attentive and good to see them getting younger members trained up so well.
Good food and friendly service. Interior may need an upgrade indicating that it is more an Indian restaurant. Nevertheless, a good place for having a lunch.
Real easy to use online order system. Ready with no wait. Just a few more veges in vegetarian dishes please
Been traveling across South Island for 3 weeks and tried so many Indian restaurants, this was by far the best Indian food. Reasonable prices, friendly staff. Keep it up guys will see u again on out next trip. Thanks.
