Oyster and Chop reviews
62Service was good, but the food was meh. But I thought the mash was awesome. It was expensive.
Absolutely horrible service!
We order 6 oysters, two starters (whitebait and beef tartar) plus each 300gr sirloin…all courses arrived within 15minutes, absolutely a No Go! The service lady had no idea how a order works, first she forgot the white wine service and the red wine was served almost as a tea warm, awefull!
Its a shame because the food is great but the fast service give you the feeling, they want you asap out of the restaurant! We were the first time in Auckland and allotver restaurants (Ahi, Bivacco, Baduzzi) so far were awesome but nor this one!
Never again!
Resented being upsold a 1L bottle of sparkling water for myself when asked to decide between sparkling or tap water. Please make this clear. The food was ok but not breathtaking to justify the price. Wouldn’t go back and can’t recommend this tourist trap.
Food was ok. I had the salmon with grilled carrots. Quite average. Staffs were friendly though.
The food and service was great. But 1 thing. Walked past and saw you accepted Bitcoin, confirmed with the waitress and she said yes. So turns out there's a caveat: $150 is the minimum if you want to pay using Bitcoin. The transaction would have been less than 1 cent on the lightning network. I am happy to change this to a 5 star if you can give me a good reason why this $150 minimum is part of your business model. Cheers
Great Happy Hour deal with $2 per oyster and $12 drinks! These oysters were clearly smaller and less juicy than the ones at Shucker Brothers but can't really complain with this price. Had the banana prawns, which weren't worth it at 40 bucks for 5 small pieces. Service was good and attentive.
I was there on the 7th of July and the waitress accidentally spilled some alcoholic drinks on my jacket. Although she apologised for it, there was no compensation or any offers to dry the jacket. However, the other waiter gave me some hot towels and was accommodating. The level of service and hospitality should’ve been high as only about 8 people were dining.
Great happy hour specials for the oysters on the half shell! The fresh oysters paired really well with a few glasses of Sauvignon Blanc on happy hour. Beautiful waterfront venue. Good value for money.
Amazing place to get a good heart steak with all the trimmings. Great outlook at waterfront. Friendly staff. Definitely one of the top places to eat in the area.
Always a great place for oyster and chop. The tomahawk steak here is absolutely amazing with 2 side dishes. I'd usually go for their mash (love the creaminess). They also have oysters sourced from different parts of NZ. My go-to has always been Te Kouma (well balanced of sweetness, saltiness and texture) and if they don't have it, I'd go for Te Matuku or Clevedon Coast.
A random choice on a random visit to the Viaduct Basin. But what a great choice it was! We were greeted by a lovely friendly waitress who seated us in our preferred seat outside in the winter sunshine. Everything on the menu sounded lovely and it was getting really hard to make a choice so we said "what the heck! " and ordered the $200 Seafood Platter between us. It was a HUGE 3 tiered platter of seafood. Crayfish tail, King Prawns and Softshell Crab on the top plate. The prawns were spot on, crayfish just the teeniest bit overcooked but the soft shell crabs were past their best. Next plate was Sashimi tuna, salmon, and two types of oyster on the half shell. This was my favourite plate with everything absolutely beautiful! The lower plate was cockles and mussels. Mussels could have done with being poached in wine or something and there isn't much to appreciate in a cockle.but all in all, an amazing dish of food that had passersby stopping and salivating! The choices for dessert were pretty amazing too. We both ended up ordering the baked cheesecake with sour cherries and coconut sorbet. 10/10! And the drinks were great too.i ordered a Mojito with no sugar syrup and it was perfect! We will be back again one day to try out their beef choices! Oh, and the toilets were lovely, clean and had individual hand towels.
Went to oyster and chop for lunch, amazing food, we had oysters to start and shared the meat board for two. We enjoyed our experience here and will be back again for the seafood platter
Food: nice but pricey compare to others in the same street
Service: most of staff looks too tired and unhappy, need more training? More holidays? More payment?
Very nice dinning experience. A bit over priced but it's definitely worth a go! So tasty and well done! Will definitely come back again!
I have visited this place a few times for their oysters and steak, good quality of food and really nice sea view if you are sitting outside.
Could have upsold to me but service was jolted and not smooth. Will be back but being a single lady we need a wee bit more attention than the single person swerve!
Had dinner last night celebrating my partners birthday, table of 12 what an amazing evening, the staff were all friendly and efficient, the food was all amazing which combined to make a great evening, thank you so much Oyster & Chop
I am a Sydneysider and I have oysters every week at either the four seasons hotel or Morrison. Usually 4 dozen at a time, so I know what I’m talking about when it comes to oysters. This kiwi oyster joint is the best one there is. Kiwi oysters are so sweet and so creamy and big enough that you can bite into them.
Oyster and chop has happy hour oyster day everyday for just $2 kiwi money which is about $1.80 Aussie, this is a bargain. I had 4 dozen before I headed to the airport. I’m going again next month for more. I recommend you do the same thing?
Lovely food but our waiter could have had more personality or been more friendly and interactive so that let the place down but in saying that when we left the lovely lady at checkout took us out to show us where the taxis were so that was a big plus. Thank you.
Oysters were pretty small, with shell pieces in each of them, also tried different cooked oyster options-they were yum. Waiting time for the main dishes was about hour&a half, which was just a torture. It was pretty tasty though. At the end of our dinner I got pretty bad food poisoning-that’s why 2 stars. Unfortunately expectations of the place turned out way different from reality.
