Pearl Garden Restaurant reviews
69 Great place for yum char. The food is prepared well, is of good quality and tastes good. You order the food on paper rather than the trolleys coming around which is an excellent idea, then there's no pressure to order and the food is fresher.
Customer service is excellent.
Prices are slightly high, but that's expected with the high cost of running a restaurant in Auckland.
Well worth going back to.
Deep fried tofu with sweet and sour sauce, shaomai, BBQ pork buns, noodles, all classic yum cha.will return.
Decent yumcha restaurant in New Market. The hightlights of the meal were pork ribs, prawn rice roll, pork taro dumpling and prawn toast. The flavour is good. A male waiter is friendly
Disappointing. Firstly they charge us 10% surcharge for chinese ny when it wasnt (confirmed twice on the spot that they are charging surcharge)
Got back home, called and ask they said no. So went back and they pretended like they did not know. So disrespectful and mistrustful to customer.
Would have been 5 stars but we were asked to pay 50c each for two containers to take the leftovers home. I had spent nearly $400 on lunch for the family and know for a fact that those containers cost about 2c each (I am in the food business). Upon complaining about this the charge was waived - but what a cheek to even ask!
It used to be one of only three places that I go for yum cha in Auckland because of their good atmosphere and yummy food. After going there for more than 5 years, I had a very bad experience with them today. They have made us pay 10% surcharge today when it was not a public holiday. (Its lunar new year today 1st Feb 22, which is not one of the public holiday in NZ). Asked again before I paid if it was for real and she said yes it is Chinese NY so public holiday. An hour later after I complained about my experience with them today, my husband called the restaurant to check/confirm if they had surcharge today and then they said no. They did say sorry that they will refund the money back. I went back not for $6 dollars of surcharge but was too annoyed that we were treated with dishonesty. It was my sister's birthday and sort of ruined our feeling. I hardly give any bad stars but they deceived the customer and I only have 2 restaurants in Auckland for yum cha now.
Decent Yumcha place, had all your usuals:) not sure if it was because of COVID, but no trolleys and had to order on paper. All good came out at once which filled our table quite quickly and made it difficult to manage plates in and out. Decent priced
We came in a bit late but still managed to accommodate us with a smile … gets even better upon receiving our orders.we were stoked as this is actually one of the best chinese restaurant we’ve had in New Zealand in a long time! I could actually tell the freshness of the food that was served to us! The steamed ribs, shu mai was divine! The salted fish fried rice and bbq fried rice was top notch! Beef with broccoli, sweet and sour pork and pork bbq was the Bomb! This restaurant is killin it! Add up the personalised quality service of all the staffs from the manager to the kitchen crew was 5stars! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC chinese cuisine! Will definitely come back and this will be my new favourite chinese restaurant spot when in Auckland! Thank you guys! 5
Good food, dishonest owner,
Went there to eat yum char for lunch and they told us to pay 10% surcharge on the 1st of Feb for Chinese new year and it’s not public holiday in new zealand.
Hopefully I’m the only one who paid surcharge on non public holiday
Favourite yum cha place! Friendly owner, never have to wait if you have made a booking, unlike others. Food and service is
Love this place. As soon as we came out of locksdown, we book this place and we triple check to make sure we did not make a mistake on our booking!
If you love steam stuff on yum char, this place offer great food with good pricing. I love their beef ribs, chicken feet, siomay, prawn dumpling.wait, I actually love all of their food!
It is full of flavour!
Good yum cha place. Quite tasty and they have a good selection of yumcha here. No cart, you write in the paper to order. No photo on the menu, so it may be a bit difficult to order for people who is not used to yum cha. Chili oil and tea felt a bit bland.
1st time eating here, very yummy! Id recommend the prawn dumpling, chicken feet and scallop dumpling
Friendly and attentive service!
Will be back!
We ordered from the online menu as you cannot dine in with it being level 3. We got a range of different things and I can say they were all just okay. We got mostly the dimsum dishes and a main noodle dish but found that to be extremely overpriced compared to the size, for the price of $28 you would expect a lot more. Maybe price should have reflected the fact that we were not dining in also.
Quality dim sum but a little bit hard to understand when see the menu. You should book the table if you go on the weekends especially holidays
Jan 2021: Good food. Ordering from paper menu now (with no pictures) as theyve stopped using trolleys but food comes within reasonable time. Just a bit confusing for staff when you want to order more food
July 2021: Called to book a table and the woman that answered the phone had very poor English that no table was actually booked in the end. Also, I've noticed on each visit, the owner at the counter has been overcharging us a few bucks extra. If they do this to everybody, everyday, that is a good amount of $$ they are stealing from customers. Don't like the dishonesty, its cheap.
This place is so crowded during lunch hour in the weekends. Before you get in you'll be "greeted" by fellow queuers also eager like you to have yum cha at this place.
They have a lot of table inside and also limits the time of stay to an hour so the queue outside the door was moving reasonably quickly.
Their dim sim are okay. I like the shu mai and the glutinous rice parcel. The tripe is fine too. But it is a bit disappointing with thr shrimp dumplings, the wrapper is too soft and it sticks to the bottom of the steamer basket. It tastes alright tho.
Horrible yum cha experience. The staffs were extremely rude. They set 1 hour time limit for yum cha without informing in the first place. No any yum cha place would give only 1 hour dinning time. Yum cha is not a fast food!
Even we complained to the manager at the scene, all the staffs were still rude and not trying to fix the problem. They just wanted us out so that they can earn more money from the next customers.
Never return again!
Fairly standard restaurant in it's type. Crowded and aimed for an Asian demographic which were the majority of the patrons. English language menu descriptions were mostly adequate but the wait staff had difficulty explaining specifics. A satisfactory meal but unremarkable.
Only 1hr dinning hour including waiting for food coming to your table. We got told off to leave FOUR TIMES in 10 minutes due to 1hr limitation which we had never been told and our 2y old toddler was still eating.food was not good at all compared to the quality they had before. Dumpling skin breaks apart and filling is so salty. I would rather go to Dum Sum 11 which is easy to park and amazing food.
