Taiko Japanese Restaurant & Bar

I absolutely LOVED this place. However, my partner and I got different chicken dishes. I got the Karaage chicken and they got the Katsu chicken. They have been throwing up all evening which I suspect is from undercooked chicken. It’s such a disappointment because everything else was superb. I do highly suggest this restaurant - value for money was amazing, atmosphere was beautiful but the food poisoning was not. I assume this was a one off situation, hence the nature of my review:)

The food at Taiko is so delicious and the staff absolutely gracious and accommodating. A family favourite for us. Highly recommend!

The team at Taiko Kingsland turned on great food and service across the last few days. The front of house and chefs are doing a great job!

We ended up here spontaneously. It was raining and we were looking for a dinner place in Kingsland. We were lucky to get a table for 3. The wait staff were friendly and welcoming. We clearly ordered too much (he warned us) but we were ready for the challenge Spicy garlic Edamame, veg tempura, tofu sizzler, hotpot, salmon sashimi and hot sake. Portion sizes were bigger than we expected. Food was yum and we really had a great time!

Delicious foods, fresh sashimi, yummy tempura and karaage chicken. Service is awesome! My husband was so happy with his father’s day lunch. Will definitely come again

Fresh, fast and delicious authentic Japanese food. I took my Japanese homestay there who agreed it was true to culture Japanese food. Super convenient to the Kingsland trainstation. A little pricey but for the quality of the food it is worth it.

Another amazing evening at this epic place. The best part of the night is the manager Gaia! She is an absolute star and the reason we keep coming back! She’s amazing!

Great food, and ONE super friendly lovely waitress. Food was lovely.

However, our booking was at 8p.m (our only options were 5.45 or 8 p.m booked 3 days earlier), we arrived just after 8p.m, and at 8.20 p.m a very unfriendly waitress came to take our order and told us the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes so we needed to place our order immediately.
Why give us an 8 p.m booking if they wanted to close early? We would have much preferred a 7 p.m slot had we had the option.
A sign on the door said " fully booked", so they clearly had enough custom for the night and didn't need our business.
Extremely rude, so for that reason we won't be back.

Great place to dine in.
Staff very accommodating and fast service.
Will definitely be back again.

Another amazing experience in this awesome restaurant. The main draw card to us coming back is the Duty Manager Gaia! She is warm, welcoming and always goes out of her way to make us feel welcome. We eat out often and can honestly say that her service is one of the best in Auckland! Couldn’t recommend more! Love this place!

Amazing Japanese food with generous serving sizes. My favourites are the Sukiyaki and reckon chips.

Amazing! We have been coming here for 2 years and my bad for not writing a review. The food is fantastic. Gaia the maître de is worth her weight in gold. So accommodating and exceptional service. Guys you got to try this place. #taikohiddengem

We LOVE this place! Affordable dining in an intimate cosy venue. The food is always fabulous and the service fabulous - the most hospitable maitre d' you could ask for. I'd left my sunglasses behind and was pleasantly surprised when I phoned the next day and retrieved them. 5 stars all the way!

Great food and good service. Restaurant was very busy on a Sunday night but we still felt well looked after. Good value for money as well.

Taiko is a restaurant that does not appreciate their customers, employ waiters who have no respect whatsoever and don’t even have the basic common sense to answer the phone. My experience at Taiko was, before we went to the restaurant, we called for an hour but they didn’t answer the phone which is understandable because the restaurant had not opened yet, however after they opened at 12 we continued to call for 45 minutes and there was still no answer. When we got to the store, they wouldn’t even let us step foot into the restaurant and when we explained what had happened with the phone calls they were urging us to get out of the store. As we were leaving they yelled at us to never come back again. Looking at previous reviews and comments saying how wonderful and great Japanese cuisine is, do you really think you will be able to enjoy “Authentic Japanese Cuisine” if the customer service is utterly terrible?

Yet another wonderful meal at taiko. We were looked after by the lovely Gaia who went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable with out 6 month old baby. Always fantastic!

Was really disappointed with ‘aged’ sashimi platters, I can taste the seafood was Not fresh, the tuna feel like pre-frozen, abalone is lost all the texture and little bit smelling, the squid is absolutely aged, the sushi rolls is fine

One of the best Japanese restaurants in town. Fresh, finest ingredients. The plating is so adorable.

Food and price as good as it always.
But the customer service will need to improve.
We order many foods last night, all the food came very quickly and no space for the big plates, which we were need to rushed to finished last dish.

This place food are invited and delicious. Presentation of the food are amazing! But level of serivce need to keep it up.
